Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Failed Amphibious Invasion of Sardinia.

The allies had four impulses this turn. The weather in the Med for those four impulses was fine, rain, rain, fine. The allies took a naval on their first impulse with the intention of capturing an empty Cagiliary and thus Sardinia on their next impulse. However, rain in the Med on the two middle allied impulses not only stopped the CW from landing but allowed the Italians to reinforce Cagilary with two garrisons. When the weather finally did clear on the fourth allied impulse, the CW had no choice but to land away from Cagilary. They chose the adjacent hex, which contained a resource, with decent odds. However, the CW rolled poorly and lost both invading ground units. Sardinia was the CW "Dippe".

19. Sep/Oct 1942. Western Med. Italian Coast.

Indecisive air and naval battles were fought between the Western Allies (USA, CW and France) and the Euro-Axis (Germany and Italy) in the Western Med and off the Italian coast.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Eastern Med.

The Italians sent a small raiding force into the Eastern Med in the hopes of sinking allied convoys and transports. However, the Italian RM was unsuccessful in their search on the impulse that they raided. After that, the CW brought in air power to reinforce the area.

Clark and his HQ unit is abroad the Queen Mary in Suez and is on his way to Japan. There's also an RN heavy cruiser docked with them and providing escort to the Pacific.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Cape St. Vincent. North Atlantic.

German u-boats in the North Atlantic and Italian Subs along with German u-boats in Cape St. Vincent went after allied convoys this turn. German u-boat in the North Atlantic failed to find the allies. However, u-boats and subs in the Cape St. Vincent were successful and managed to sink 5 CW CPs and force a 6th to abort.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War: Japanese Aggression (11/25/2015 4:11:32 AM)

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. France. North Sea. Bay of Biscay.

With the war between Germany and Russia still cold, the Germans continued to move more land and air forces into France and the low countries. Also the Luftwaffe started flying raids into the Bay of Biscay with the objective of disrupting allied convoy routes there. However, the Luftwaffe was unsuccessful in that endeavor but did draw significant response from the USAF and RAF. A response containing bombers and air actions that would otherwise be used to strategically bomb German factories.

The Kreigsmarine supported by the Luftwaffe sortied into the North Sea and very nearly won that area, for a while at least.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War: Japanese Aggression (11/25/2015 4:15:26 AM)

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Sea Areas.

While the number of sea areas that Japan's navy is involved is shrinking fast, the number that Germany and Italy are involved in is expanding and becoming an irritant to the Western Allies.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War: Japanese Aggression (11/25/2015 4:18:23 AM)

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Nazi-Soviet Pact.

However, all this, which was made possible by the transfer of air forces from the East to the West, has come at a price. Germany can no longer break the Nazi-Soviet pact.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War: Japanese Aggression (11/25/2015 4:23:38 AM)

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Economic Reports.

1. Allied strategic bombing only managed to reduce Germany production by 1 PP and Italian by 2. This translates into losses of 1 and 2 BPs, respectively.

2. CW's final BP total was greater by 1 than Germany's.

3. USSR BP total is equal to Germany's.

4. USA oil stockpiles are critical. A couple of oil points per turn from the CW to the USA is probably necessary. The USA has for a while, and will continue for the foreseeable future, send 3 BPs per turn to the CW. So, the CW sending 2 oil points back to the USA only seems fair.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Manchuria. Korea.

Mao and his communist Chinese will be helping the Soviets with the garrison of Manchuria and Korea. This will free up a number of Soviet ground troops for garrison duties in the Middle East or on the border with the Germany army.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War: Japanese Aggression (11/26/2015 12:24:54 AM)

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942.

Western Allied Objectives for this turn were:

(1) Capture the port Japanese city of Fukuoka and expand control in Japan.

(2) Establish one beachhead in Sardinia.

(3) Clear the Japanese fleets from the South China and China Seas.

Soviet Objectives

(1) Conquer Persia.

(2) Conquer Iraq.

Euro-Axis Objectives

(1) Disrupt allied convoy lines.

Japanese Objectives

(1) Survive.

Weather and Actions.

The allies won the first roll, the axis choose not to reroll and the allies elected to go first. The western allies used the first impulse to take navals and put land forces at sea in the China Sea and in the Western Med for land actions their next impulse (Allies #5). Unfortunately for the allies, storm in the Med prevent amphibious landings against Sardinia and snow in the North Temperate shut down any thoughts for attacking in Japan.

But luck turned in the allies favor with fine weather on their last impulse of the turn.

By the way, the key for "Action" is:

L=land, N=Naval, C=Combined, P=Pass and L*=Land with an o-chit.

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Victory Points.

+1 gain from last turn for the Soviets and a -1 (loss) for the Germans due to the Soviet capture of Teheran, Persia.

Faction VP totals relative to their bids,

Euro-Axis (Germany & Italy): 21 - 0 = +21

Western Allies (CW, France & USA): 29 - 42 = -13

Japan: 7 - 9 = -2

USSR: 8 - 15 = -7

China: 1 - 1 = 0

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War: Japanese Aggression (11/26/2015 12:39:06 AM)

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Land Combat. Japan.

It took an o-chit but the USA did manage to satisfy the Western Allies' objective (1) for this turn, "Capture the port Japanese city of Fukuoka and expand control in Japan."

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War: Japanese Aggression (11/26/2015 12:42:09 AM)

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Japan. South China Sea.

Unfortunately for the USA and CW, they were unable to sweep the Japanese navy from the China Sea so they failed to meet their objective (3), "Clear the Japanese fleets from the South China and China Seas."

Though, on a positive note, the situation on the ground for the Western Allies looks very positive.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War: Japanese Aggression (11/26/2015 12:45:15 AM)

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. South China Sea.

In the South China Sea the allies on their first impulse did manage to sink the lone Japanese CP operating there, thus sweeping the Japanese out of that area and satisfying the South China Sea part of their objective (3). However, the Japanese during a combined moved another second CP and a heavy cruiser back into box 0 of that area and since the the allies unsuccessfully tried to find this new force the western allies also failed in the South China Sea part of (3) too.

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Land Combat. Tehran.

The Soviets met half of their objectives for this turn. That is, the managed to conquer Persia but was unable to finish off Iraq.

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Destroyed & Repair Pools.

The Euro-axis failed to sink even 1 allied convoy, much less disrupt any convoy lines. So, they failed miserable in their objective for this turn. That is, to disrupt allied convoys.

Turn 20. Nov/Dec 1942. Economic Reports.

1. I need to include allied strategic bombing objectives in my turn objectives. This turn the western allies through strategic bombing destroyed 3 German and 4 Italian PP's, which resulted in the loss of 4 and 5 BPs, respectively.

2. USA used 10 oil points this turn! The CW used 7! The rest of the countries combined used 5.
