Turn 32. Nov/Dec 1944. Weather and Actions. Whatever bad luck or issues the allied player has had with weather or with the turn ending too soon was made up several times over this turn. Fantastic weather rolls and unbelievable fine weather for this time of year. Well, if you're the allied player that is. Note that the US player played an o-chit every impulse this turn. Turn 32. Nov/Dec 1944. Europe. The result of all that fine weather was a complete collapse of the Germany army. It was so bad that Germany offered to surrender, but it came with conditions. Making it known that the allies will accept nothing other than an unconditional surrender from Germany, the allies turned down Germany's offer. Turn 33. Jan/Feb 1945. Weather. Actions. A short turn with storms in the North Temperate during the first impulse pair. Since 95% of all fighting is in this region this meant no combat during this pair. However, the USA did take a super-combined, which at first may not make sense, but it does after some though and play. The USA used this super combined to move up its land forces in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands close to the German lines. Also, storm put a number of advance US units out of supply. The US player was able to move HQ units to positions to put these units in supply. Also, the USA player used the super-combined to rebase an enormous number of air units to within range of the remaining German units. The fact that storms were raging in the North Temperate, which includes much of Poland, did not deter Stalin and his Red Army from attacking. It helps when the attacks are automatic. Turn 33. Jan/Feb 1945. USSR # 8. Germany and Romania. Combat Reporter's Notebook. The Red Army is in its element in snow and that was what the weather was this impulse in the North Temperate. The Soviets launch one attack pushing into Romania and two attacks trying to cross Oder. The Americans and British successfully push to the outskirts of Berlin in preparation for the final assault to take the city and end this war. Turn 33. Jan/Feb 1945. German U-boat Raid. A Footnote. A group of fanatical submariner Nazis volunteered to manned the last organized German u-boat unit and raid allied convoys in the North Atlantic. The allies were tipped off to this possibility when Manstein was used to reorganize a German SS infantry corps and, with no other ground units left that he could reorganize, reorganize a single German u-boat unit. The allies put cruiser, battleship and carrier escorts out into the sea areas reachable by this newly reorganized German u-boat unit. The final German u-boat raid was anti-climate when their crews failed to find the allies. And, conversely, the allies failed to find the u-boats unit. Turn 33. Jan/Feb 1944. USA Only Lost this Turn. The USA's only loss this turn came through carelessness and not combat. Truthfully, I wasn't aware of frozen lakes and flying boats. Turn 34. Mar/Apr 1945. Weather. Actions. Another short turn with the axis, or Germany, moving first. It didn't matter. On the allies first impulse, the CW plays an o-chit and takes a super-combined and the USA plays an o-chit to double their attack factors. The target of this one-two punch is Berlin. The CW will use its unlimited air to ground strike the two HQ units and engineering division defending Berlin. Also, any and all other German land units in the Western Allies zone will be ground struck too. The Soviets also play an o-chit to double their attack factors. Turn 34. Mar/Apr 1945. Western Allies #3. Assault on Berlin. Combat Reporter's Notebook. I won't keep you waiting on the assault to take Berlin. CW led ground strikes with half a dozen or more air units resulted in the disorganization of the Berlin defenders. The assault was made by USA units, 6 of which were double by MacArthur with an o-chit. The creme on the pudding was 129 US air factors added through ground support. A bit overdone but this was the most important attack of the game. Also, all American aircrews in the area wanted in on this attack. Berlin fell easily to the Americans. Turn 34. Mar/Apr 1945. USSR #3. Germany. Combat Reporter's Notebook. The Soviets played an o-chit with Zukhov to double their attack to push across the Oder. There was only suppose to be one land combat, the top one, with 9 Soviets units attacking the 2 SS mech corps. Through a mistake, one stack of Soviet units "attacked" in wrong the direction, or the wrong "stack" of German units. This "mistake" was not noticed until the land combat resolution phase at which point it was decided to let the attacks go as shown and take the results as they come. Though the Soviets suffered the loss of two units the results were two victories and two bridgeheads across the Oder and not one. Note that on the bottom attack since only one unit survived it remained organized with the "half of the surviving attackers disorganized" result. Turn 34. Mar/Apr 1945. USSR #3. Balkans. Combat Reporter's Notebook. Bucharest, Romania captured again by the Soviets. Recall from the earlier days of the German invasion of the Soviet Union, that the Soviets managed to defeat Romania only to have the defeat overturned by advancing Germans one or two turns later. Turn 34. Mar/Apr 1945. Western Allies #8. Hungary and Germany. Combat Reporter's Notebook. Hungary captured by the CW with help from their Yugoslavia allies. Note that the CW player rolled a "2" on the automatic attack. I guess if you're going to roll 2's, then rolling them on automatic attacks is the best placed to roll them. The USA finishes off some hard core Germans holding out on the Baltic coast. This attack clears out all German land units left in Germany. This is the total destruction of the German army. The Soviets make sure that the Romanians know their defeated this time by finishing off the rest of the Romanian army, just in case anyone in Romania had any doubt. I really don't think for the Nazis that Bulgaria is safe to be in given that there is nothing between them and the Red Army but air and very little time.
