After playing 5 or 6 scenarios and i'm 6 battles into an LCG i think it would be really nice to have more feedback and options after a battle. JTCS suffers from this also the after battle stuff is pretty generic and could use some window dressing. Maybe add some tabs so you could look at the numbers, KIA's for you and your enemy, ability to look at the map after battle, more personality in the battle summary. Not really sure what i'm asking for but the after battle stuff seems kinda blah.

Budd, this sounds... familiar, but I just can't put my finger on it...[:D]

Had to say it. [:D][:D]

Just wait for tomorrow. [;)]

z1812 -> RE: Wishlist (10/7/2015 2:13:20 PM)

Set-up zones. It would be great to have the ability to identify an area within the map that forces could set up in.

In addition, being able to choose your own units.

If you put those 2 together then you have an excellent way to generate quick battles for head to head or single play.

The above would result in much increased playability and, in my view, be a great selling feature.

Jason Petho -> RE: Wishlist (10/7/2015 2:52:11 PM)

You could use the editors included in the game to quickly generate battles?

I could quickly throw together a package of random scenarios if you let me know what you're looking for.

budd -> RE: Wishlist (10/7/2015 3:38:10 PM)

For me I was just thinking about free setup variants of the LCG scenarios.

Jason Petho -> RE: Wishlist (10/7/2015 3:42:01 PM)

Did you know...

It is possible to open up the LCG scenarios and save them as scenario files?

Open the scenario editor
Choose the SCL option from the drop down for file type, which will display the SCL files
Choose the one you want to convert
Save as scn file
You may have to reformat the date
Done!

I was thinking more of having the ability to place units your self. So if you were attacking you would choose your own locations to place units. The same for defending. This provides the game with another level of interest for players and adds to head to head play.

The scenario designer would specify an area of the map within which units may be set up by the player or players.

z1812 -> RE: Wishlist (10/7/2015 4:13:25 PM)

Air units should not suffer the results of artillery fire.

Ah, I see where you're going with that.

I disagree.

I'll explain more when I get home.

vonkrieg -> RE: Wishlist (10/7/2015 8:51:12 PM)

Helos normally avoid artillery missions (friendly and enemy) for a reason. As an example, if a 155 round strikes a helo in flight, its all over for the flight crew. Even if the round doesn't explode. Too much mass, going too fast, expends a lot of energy were it to strike a bird in flight.

Artillery landing in the vicinity of a low flying helo can damage it through shrapnel and concussion. However, this is not a high probability in the game. So, even if you get hit with arty, more than likely it won't do any damage to your helo. Yet, there is a "chance" so a good mitigation measure is to not linger too long in any one location that has enemy eyes observing. This also applies to other units in the game that are way more susceptible to arty fire like infantry and vehicles.

Anyway for current unit status to show in the organization dialog box? Disrupted, KIA ect.

PUBLIC BETA[:D]

+1. A number of games release a public beta that is not official and use at your own risk:)

Although I have a lot to learn before I begin playing around with new stuff...

Grim and I are thinking about trying out some PBEM. We'd like to start small, could you throw together a package of complexity 2 meeting engagements. Grim wants to play Israel so that would be one side, the other could be dealers choice. Varied Terrain would be nice.

Question: is it possible to use the random battle generator for PBEM games in some way? If not is this doable in a future update, then you could dial up anything for PBEM.

You bet, I can do that. Give me a bit and I'll put together a package for you.

The random battle generator creates some random scenarios, which can be edited and started as PBEM games.

Crossroads -> RE: Wishlist (10/11/2015 5:45:47 AM)

I did a little write-up on Random Generated Battles a while ago for CS titles, with a little example on how to extend them:

  • Developer Diary #2 - Having fun with randomly generated battles
  • Developer Diary #3 - Adding new units with -X NoEncryption option

    Hope you have fun with them! [:)]

  • Jason Petho -> RE: Wishlist (10/11/2015 3:23:09 PM)

    Is there any preferred timeframe, Budd/Grim?

    Jason Petho

    budd -> RE: Wishlist (10/11/2015 3:31:44 PM)

    for me since i don't really know the conflicts depicted during the game time frame that well a particular time frame doesn't matter, but a mix would be cool. Thanks for taking the time Jason.

    Jason Petho -> RE: Wishlist (10/11/2015 3:39:13 PM)

    I'll call these "Teaching Sets".

    Each set will provide the same situation, but each situation will be for a different decade. This will allow you to see the difference in units and how they change over the decades.

    budd -> RE: Wishlist (10/11/2015 3:47:57 PM)

    Thank you sir

    Grim.Reaper -> RE: Wishlist (10/11/2015 6:38:27 PM)

    No preference for me and appreciate the extra work.

    scottintacoma -> RE: Wishlist (10/11/2015 7:46:03 PM)

    Jason,

    The "Teaching Sets" sound goo. You might want to add them to the first update.

    Jason Petho -> RE: Wishlist (10/12/2015 12:24:52 AM)

    Teaching Sets A01 - A05

    Give them a whirl, let me know how they work.

    Jason Petho

    scottintacoma -> RE: Wishlist (10/12/2015 12:45:50 AM)

    I will. But it will be some time before I get to paly again.

    Life gets in the way.

    Grim.Reaper -> RE: Wishlist (10/12/2015 2:17:38 PM)

    I know this is not a big problem, but would be nice if the side of each player had a more descriptive name than "A" or "B"....sometimes my old mind forgets who is who:)

    Jason Petho -> RE: Wishlist (10/12/2015 2:22:31 PM)

    Understood.

    In the meantime, one way to remember which side is which is by noting that in most scenarios, Side A is the pro-west side (UK, France, Israel) and Side B will typically be an Arab country.

    Not the perfect way of designating sides. But there are technical reasons for this. In the end, we went with the best compromise.

    In-game, after scenario's start, one way you can distinguish sides, albeit a clumsy way, is to open the Status > Strength dialog.

    I'll see about maybe implementing a pop-up indicating sides and nationalities. Or some such.

    Grim.Reaper -> RE: Wishlist (10/12/2015 5:41:54 PM)

    No worries, I am sure you guys have bigger things to tackle...was just a nice to have.
