Will do a post i had planned. AP News- Allied Forces HQ announced this week the death of British XIII Corps Commander General John T. Crocker. A German anti-tank mine claimed the life of General Crocker and 3 others of his staff, wounding 4 others. His death comes on the heels of XIII Corps' recent capture of the Italian town of Caserta. The news was released in Sicily at a meeting of top Allied Commanders. Eisenhower was asked about reports coming from Spain that German newsreels were claiming that Axis forces in Italy, despite Allied Bombing of the rails and ports, were receiving supplies by air transport. Eisenhower responded that Goering must be using Wonder Woman's plane, because there were no reports of Axis supplying by air. He then added that reports show the Axis are low on ammo. "Never less, resistance is strong" he emphasized. Patton was asked about conditions in the Anzio beachhead. Patton quipped "It has all the comforts of home, if your home is a damp cave." "But dont worry boys", Patton beamed, "I've got a good hold on the Germans and they're not going anywhere." Clark quickly added that every German in Italy was 1 less in Russia or France and that several of the enemies' best divisions had been identified. Clark added that the troops at Anzio were calling the place "Von Pelton's Boot Camp" in reference to the experience Allied forces were receiving from the German Field Marshal. As the commanders were leaving the news conference someone yelled "General Patton have you slapped anyone lately?" Patton fired back "Just the Cook!." Unnamed sources claim that one of the mountains in the Gustav Line was recently captured.
