Whilst it's certainly possible this one took me 2 attempts ...... and both attempts were totally different!

During the first one I ran through the full duration of the scenario without detecting ANY submarines! (very frustrating)
I wasted a good bit of time chasing fish and evading a few surf contacts but no action and didn't fire a shot.
15 seconds before the scenario time was due to expire one of my subs got nuc'd ..... total failure!

The second attempt was like playing a totally different scenario! Sub contacts, surf contacts and ASW air all involved.
After a bit of a knife fight and dodging a few torpedoes I did get a win without any losses.

Both times were so different I did wonder if there was any random start positions involved .... but it could very easily be me not detecting the targets (and they missed me until the end) on the first run.

As soon as I get a bit of time I'm going to do an AAR on this one.

Welcome to the world of ASW. Half wizardry, Fueled mostly by coffee...and with a touch of technology.

First make sure you are running the latest build. Pre 757.10 there was a bug that allowed passive sensors to localise contacts after about 10s. In a pure ASW scenario, this means you get detected at 12nm for example, amd rather than a large zone of uncertainty, 10s later the enemy knows your exact course, speed and depth.

I think this could be your problem.

Once you've confirmed that you're running 757.10 or later try transiting towards the datum points below the layer and without cavitating. As soon as you have a goblin contact, cut your speed down to 1-2 kts and try to identify the contact. If its an SSBN, come to -131ft and launch a nuclear SUBROC. Scratch one.

I did well with this one.....
I started by stopping my boats and listening at various depths…
I always anticipate scenario consignors planning traps for you especially in the beginning… So if they lay out a path… I change it immediately…
With my first northern boat I went dead East at creep at various steps and checking my six ...
With my southern vote that was outside of the patrol area… I anticipated the trap if I laid a path immediately north to the markers…
So I approach the patrol area acute angle going east northeast…
I brought my southern boat up closer to the northern one so the patrol together and provided mutual support…

I did have to retry a couple of time under the last patch, but my biggest bit of suggestion is - stay on creep unless you absolutely have to, stay mainly below the layer, but pop up every once in a while, because I've noticed that the enemy subs I found mostly spent their time above the layer. Make sure your map display is set to all emissions - you really want to be careful not to get caught out by enemy active sonar, which all the patrolling ships seem to use.

My biggest threat in the scenario was the air cover - it was pretty much impossible to escape once they found you. However, now that the area of uncertainty is fixed, this might not be as big of an issue.

I tried it twice and the second time I won by sinking every Sovjet surface ship I encountered. After sinking about seven of those I had scored enough points for a victory :)
