Birdgunner -> The Canadians Stike Back (4/24/2003 9:07:45 AM)

Front line troops rejoice as news of a successful Commando raid on the Soviet HQ spreads through the ranks.:D

With thier moral up the Canadians are ready to press on!;)

Scharfschütze -> Vengeance is mine! (4/24/2003 5:35:34 PM)

I think there are a lot of canadian soldiers who had no time to rejoice at any news right then. The sorry remnants of the enemy advance in the south are shot up, the remaining tanks are all badly damaged and mostly without main guns and tracks. The only resistance offered are the 8", which got lucky again and smashed a KV-1(C):mad:

A loss we can afford, while the enemy is in no position to get at all those VHs I hold (please try...pleeeeaase!:p)

Birdgunner -> "The Guns, the Guns, Thank God the Guns!" (4/25/2003 9:22:33 AM)

The Soviet advance seems to be slowing down since the loss of thier HQ and the punishment of the Canadian Artillery.:)

As this goes on the remainder of the of the King's loyal troops try to regroup and keep the Russian Bear at bay.:eek:

Scharfschütze -> Totalizer´s Turn 16 (4/25/2003 6:56:35 PM)

The canadians are desperate, and it is showing. Our troops know what to do when the enemy is sighted: KILL KILL KILL:mad:

Two more tanks are knocked out in the south, another is so heavily damaged that it won´t be a threat anymore. Our cavalry is busy mowing down the fleeing crews. Seems we will capture a number of Ram II´s to put on display in Gorki Park after all :p

Enemy is still pounding away, but we know it will be in vain. The canadians cannot hope to reach any of the VHs before this ends! (And I hope their ammo is running out anytime soon. Noone can keep up such a barrage indefinetely, even with a full btn)

Birdgunner -> The Fat Lady hasn't sung yet! (4/26/2003 10:10:52 AM)

With most of the armour gone in the south the Canadian Infantry will have a hard go at it. Nothing that they are not used to anyway.;)

Only 4 turns left and there is still hope amongst the troops that some good may come out of the battle.:D

Scharfschütze -> Turn 17 (4/27/2003 5:45:39 PM)

The enemy has laid down smoke to cover his infantry trapped in the open in the southern sector, while the North sees limited advances by enemy armoured reinforcements. 8" pound away in support, while our own 120mm mortars send shells crashing into the enemy´s ready zones. Since we can concentrate our artillery to stop the enemy troops, we don´t expect them to come anywhere near the objectives, which are some 10 hexes away from the canadian forward elements. Plus, we have retained most of our tanks :D

Birdgunner -> Beware the Great Canadian Beaver! (4/28/2003 2:15:43 AM)

My Infantry in the south sets up in an attempt to hold the line and prevent total humiliation. :o

While plans are being made elsewhere!;) :D

Scharfschütze -> Beavers make great caps! (4/28/2003 3:43:51 AM)

The south sees the demise of a few tank crews running around dazed. The focus of the action is shifting to the north, where the enemy is trying a desperate last attack in the woods. But the Ram II´s must be advancing with all openings shut, at least that would explain why they missed that T-34 lurking just 100m to their flank.

A T-34 that has not seen combat.:)
With APCR rounds ready. :eek:
And another nearby. :D

Scrap two Rams! :p

Scharfschütze -> Turn 19 (4/29/2003 2:21:14 AM)

The enemy is close to the braking point. In the north, we are able to meet a platoon-sized charge with a reinforced company in the counterattack.

If this would last beyond Turn 20, it would be a massacre...

(Okay, Im getting a little sure of myself here :) )

Scharfschütze -> Turn 20 (5/5/2003 4:18:11 PM)

Along the whole front, our tanks advance and smash fleeing canadian troops.

Glorious victory is near!:p :cool: :p

Birdgunner -> It's all over! (5/6/2003 9:24:51 AM)

Well, the fat lady has sung. Those dirty Russians achieved a marginal victory and are now reaping the rewards.:mad:

The Canadian Infantry with it's dying breath was able to take out an OT-34.:)

Anyone got a Russian/English dictionary?

Scharfschütze -> Victory! (5/6/2003 3:01:41 PM)

Comrades, the battle is won!

The turning point of the battle was when the canadian assault on the southern and central VH hills faltered despite heavy shelling. What doomed the Rams was that I reached the hilltop just before the forward canadian elements with a full company of T-34s laden with scouts and ATRs. With the T-34s sloped armour and the canadians moving slowly in the duststorm, I was able to stave Birdgunner´s tanks off until reinforcements could be brought in (two OT-34 platoons).

The most critical situation was when his infiltrators got my HQ and called in 8" strikes. I feared greatly for my single FO which was nearby and very vulnerable, constantly only rallied to pinned and wouldn´t enter a truck that would carry it to safety.

Having seen the map, I was surprised at the extent of my success: The canadians were mostly wiped out, with but a single badly shaken infantry squad and a lone mortar in the north, the remnants of an infantry company in the south and a few scattered MGs in the centre, plus the artillery park somewhat further back. Few vehicle crews have escaped.

Summing up, a vicious battle in adverse weather conditions, with a lengthy shootout won due to a superior position and the timely arrival of reinforcements. Hats off to the contructors of the Ram II, I literally had to shoot them to pieces and many were only vanquished when their crews bailed after losing mobility, Radio Masts, Main Gun optics and what else was vulnerable. Those I did destroy mainly fell to APCR, AP just didn´t cut it.
