colt6900 -> TF sudden appearance (12/22/2015 10:27:50 PM)

I had a US TF suddenly appear in February 2/1942 in the northern islands of Japan (135/50). It consisted of CA,CL.2DD.
On February 1 The 2dd were in Darwin Australia, and the two cruisers were in San Francisco USA.
The TF headed for Russia then for the northern port of the main island of Japan.
Sinking some Japanese cargo vessels on the way. I don't know what it's going to do yet when it gets to the
northern island, If I don't think it first. I'll be interesting to see if it tries to dock?
I'm playing the Japanese side and the computer is US side, full war scenario one.
I don't know if you're aware of this bug but I figured I would let you know.

In simple terms, the AI cheats.

I had the same thing happen to me when I was playing the Allied side and the AI was Japan. I think the scenario was "Downfall" the 1945 invasion of Japan one.
All of the seas south of Japan had been cleared of IJN ships and all their fleet was reconned at Niigata on the north coast of Japan. Next turn, a strong SCTF with a couple of CAs and some DDs showed up to attack shipping near Singapore. I went back and checked the previous turn in "Head to Head" so I could see the IJ side, and those IJN ships were at Niigata, so they had "warped" past all my patrols or over the land mass of Honshu for something around 40 hexes in one phase.

Some other folks have posted about this in the past, but without as much detail as you did - I think the last time it came up, the thread title was "Teleporting ships" or something. I didn't realize it actually happened. Honestly, I'm OK with the AI teleporting ships as long as it's not this egregious, but this also makes me wonder if maybe something weird isn't going on.

The AI doesn't 'think' so to speak. So in order for it to do certain things it can grab vessels in ports, no matter where they are, and form them into TF's as it needs them.

I've had the same thing happen in a couple of my AI games, it depends on which script the AI is running. They'll just sail around up there trying to cause mischief, of course you could just use some air assets to dispatch the blighters.

This is not a bug.

See my various posts, and the linked thread I provide, in this thread of two months ago.
