I am looking forward to your comments about the new 2D terrain look and feel especially.

I do like my maps subtle and easy on the eye, so took a good few steps here to that direction. There's been a couple of comments I've maybe taken a step too far, like that would be possible [8D]

So give them a spin and let me know !!

Big Ivan -> RE: Campaign Series Middle East - 1.02 UPDATE - OPEN BETA (12/24/2015 11:46:23 AM)

    AHH Yes Dev Team

The new open beta 1.02 patch has cured the off board artillery bug![&o]

There are a lot of other good features in this patch also.

I like the new cursors, the von Krieg added scenarios, 3D graphics and for you Crossroads the new 2D terrain much easier on the eyes!

    Good stuff, Oh Yummy!

    Odd.

Followed the instructions fully, but couldn't get the MOD to function properly.

Failed to see new map graphics and I unable to access 'edit map' from game screen.

The game screen just sits there and sits there and nothing happens until I press 'exit' then am getting a window saying 'application not responding.'

I've now deactivated the MOD from JSGME, but still no joy in being able to access 'edit map.'

All other functions work fine - such as 'new game,' 'edit scenario' and 'campaign.'

    And ideas gents?

berto -> RE: Campaign Series Middle East - 1.02 UPDATE - OPEN BETA (12/24/2015 6:28:15 PM)

Immediately after any "application not responding", please zip up and post here

  • frontend.log
  • edmap.log
  • error.log

You will find these in the logs folder.

Note that in order to upload and post the file here, you will likely need to rename your file with a .txt extension (replacing the .zip), since ZIP file uploads are not supported in this sub-forum.

  • z1812 -> RE: Campaign Series Middle East - 1.02 UPDATE - OPEN BETA (12/25/2015 5:42:28 PM)

I am unsure about updating. Currently my game installation is at 1.00

    1. Is the Beta update 1.02 comprehensive?

    2. On the product page there are 2 updates shown but when I download them they are identified as being the same. That is a bit confusing. Are they the same or different?

Great game and I really like the Campaign Series of Games.

Jason Petho -> RE: Campaign Series Middle East - 1.02 UPDATE - OPEN BETA (12/25/2015 6:20:05 PM)

    1.02 is not yet cumulative.

You will need to install the 1.01 UPDATE first from here:

    The 1.01 UPDATE!

Unzip, and then double click that executable, follow the installation instructions.

    z1812 -> RE: Campaign Series Middle East - 1.02 UPDATE - OPEN BETA (12/25/2015 8:40:46 PM)

Thanks for the quick reply. I really was not expecting a response today.

    Merry Christmas!!!

Jason Petho -> RE: Campaign Series Middle East - 1.02 UPDATE - OPEN BETA (12/25/2015 8:46:57 PM)

    And Merry Christmas to you!

Rosseau -> RE: Campaign Series Middle East - 1.02 UPDATE - OPEN BETA (12/26/2015 2:19:30 AM)

Merry Christmas Team. Thank you for the enhanced cursor. I was expecting a big red cross [;)]

Also thanks that extreme FoW tells us some combat details. I assume spotting is still harder than with regular FoW setting.

First off, thanks to all of you guys for keeping this game alive and growing. When I'm bored with all the rest, CS is the game I keep coming back to.

Now, about those graphics... Forest, vineyard, orchard, scrub, etc. graphics are fine, even well done! [sm=happy0005.gif] But, it seems that the actual "tiles" are more and more desaturated, to the point where I have difficulty seeing the difference between one elevation level and the next. I keep trying to add more color to the base terrain and you keep taking it away... [:)] The problem is that there's only so many shades of tan that can be used for the desert.

Thank you for your feedback Rake!

I just now had a chance to upgrade my CS:ME install on my old laptop, and I see what you mean. My development Desktop has a decent backlit LED monitor, so it shows the tiles in more color than what the especially older LCD monitors do.

I will prepare another version of basic tiles with less saturation, I will upload it here for comparison. Not before next weekend, though.

As it is though, with # of elevation levels to support, they are less distinctive than games with say half a dozen or even less elevation variations do.

As an additional tip, there's always the "." (dot) hotkey that toggles elevation values ON and OFF. Handy for checking a line of advance or assault, when not sure how the lay of the land goes, in addition to perhaps toggling Contour lines ON and OFF with "C" hotkey.

Rake -> RE: Campaign Series Middle East - 1.02 UPDATE - OPEN BETA (12/27/2015 3:23:49 PM)

    Crossroads...

NP, just different strokes. I do agree that, while more elevations is better, trying to fill all these slots with varying shades is difficult and desert terrain is particularly so.

I haven't often used the elevation values, although my preferred play is with Contours ON and Hex Grid OFF.

I've played with the files a bit (I use Photoshop), experimenting with saturation and contrast. It seems that any editing almost has to be done on a hex x hex level basis. When I've tried adjusting the entire file, one end of the spectrum or the other either winds up "blown out" (too light), "blocked up" (too dark) or looking like something out of a '60's R&R concert.

In any event, the game's great... just wish there was a simple way to add the new cursor to the WW II games... THAT was the best Xmas present of all for my aging eyes

EDIT: I usually play on a 46" LCD HDTV. I haven't tried it out yet on my newer LED screen (TV). I'll have to look and see how much difference that makes... that might take a while lest I risk the wrath of my SO while hogging the primary TV for my gaming
    she [sm=duel.gif] me

Crossroads -> RE: Campaign Series Middle East - 1.02 UPDATE - OPEN BETA (12/27/2015 4:36:43 PM)

There's some added contrast to first dozen elevations or so, but as there's quite a height difference in many of the maps, and especially as many of them start from double digit elevations, it is a bit of a challenge isn't it.

Have to think of something though, can't have you duelling with Ms Rake can we [:'(]

Quite many graphic files are quite a handful to prepare as they are. I have prepared different tiles being manipulated using different interpolation algorithms etc, certain rows with one that works for them, the next row with something else.

So maybe these basic Clear Terrain tiles need to be prepared in a similar manner, to have them stand out more. Have to figure out how to best achieve all it first though.

This might be the key to it all? More colors! And color effects!

It was decided to up the number of elevations from 20 to 50. We live with the consequences.

Yes, the 'c' (Contour) and '.' (Elevations) hot keys are, in part, the answer.

If you play with both Hex Grid & Contours ON and the contours don't stand out well enough against the hex backdrop, try fiddling with Options > Hex Contours Colors > Light/Medium/Dark.

I vaguely remember this map [X(] Played it hot seat with a friend... He'd brought a plate of some kind of mushrooms and we were munching on them while we played. I really enjoyed the scenario, but I haven't been able to find it since. Guess it must have been an old Talonsoft version [:D]
