Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #2. Germany. Barbarossa. Finland.

Finland is unable to get any decent odds for a land combat, so the Germany player chooses not to attack with the Finns. However, a Finnish ski division manages to cut the rail line to Murmansk.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #3. Weather.

The German player, who's riding hide after his initial success against the Soviet player is brought down crashing into the ground when the allied player makes the weather roll for the next impulse pair. This weather ought to slow the German advance in the East, if not outright halt it.

Interesting game. My feel is that the combat rolls for the Germany player have gone very well and have been mostly in his favor. However, the weather rolls and initiate rolls have seemed to go the allied player's way.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #3. CW Combined. The Eastern Med.

The RN tries to initiate a naval combat in the East Med but it's the Italian RM that find the RN. When they isolate sea box 3 they have just enough surprise points (i.e., 4) to avoid combat.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #3. Italy. Cape St. Vincent.

The two German surface raiders, the Bismarck and a heavy cruiser decide to flee the area. En route back to Brest, RN ships in the Bay of Biscay try but fail to intercept the aborting German ships.

The RN has cleared Cape St. Vincent.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/27/2016 2:00:50 AM)

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #3. USSR. Asia.

With the Japanese at a stalemate with Mao and his communist in Northern China, the threat of a Japanese invasion Sibera has significantly decreased. As soon as all factories that need to be railed have been railed then Zukho and the elite Siberian infantry corps will be railed west to the Eastern Front. The bomber and fighter unit there will likely see their pilots put back into the reserve pool, and thus the planes too, at the end of the turn for redeployment turn after next to the Eastern Front.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #5. Japan. Strategic Bombing. Sian, China.

Japan takes a combined an uses one of their air mission for a strategic bombing raid on Sian, China. The raid is ineffective.

Japan has be unable to reduce Chinese production through strategic bombing this turn. They conducted two raids counting this one.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/27/2016 7:21:05 PM)

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #5. Japan. China Sea.

Japan uses the combine to move 3 infantry and 1 cavalry crops from Japan to the China Sea. The white print MIL corps is headed for Truk, which is currently undefended (i.e., empty of ground troops) though six heavy cruisers are currently docked there. The requirement is to have two white print corps and a division defending Truk by late fall. Also, there is a requirement to militarize and have Kwajaleian defended by then too.

Japan combat operations in China will now focus on the south with the objective of spreading into Burma. Of course to the east, a prime objective are the oil fields of the Dutch East Indies.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #5. Germany, Italy.

Germany takes a combine in order to move two u-boat units out of Kiel and into the Faerores Gap. Both u-boat units were 2 movers.

Italy takes a land and starts moving land forces back into Egypt to face the growing CW threat from the South. That is, from East Africa.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #7. Weather.

Fighter weather on the Eastern Front returns. Though there's a 10% chance that the turn will end on this impulse (assuming two allies don't pass). Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth for Germany!

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #7. CW Combined. Italian Coast.

The CW takes a combine and tries but fails to initiate combat in the Italian Coast.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #7. RN. East Med.

The RN also tries but fails to initiate combat in the East Med.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/27/2016 8:19:31 PM)

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #7. RN. Red Sea.

With the artillery division disembarked and not longer on transport in the Red Sea, the CW player felt it was the proper time to try to imitate combat with the lone Italian heavy cruiser on patrol there. Unfortunately for the RN, their search failed to find the Italian cruiser. However, the Italian cruiser found the RN and decided to isolate sea box 0, which contained an RN cruiser and transport.

The Italian player thought long and hard on whether or not to fight a surface battle or avoid the combat. With 11 surprise points (9 - 2 + 4, since the RN would only be fighting from the 0 box), the Italian cruiser could likely avoid any damage or being forced to abort and sink the Dutch transport and maybe the RN heavy cruiser. However, this would risk further rounds of naval combat and expose the Italian cruiser to being forced to leave the Red Sea, or even sunk. If that were the case, the supply to the Italian ground unit in Eritrea would be lost.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/27/2016 8:21:39 PM)

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #7. RN. Red Sea. Italian RM Chooses to Avoid Combat.

In the end the Italians choose to avoid combat. After all the primary, and only, mission of the Italian cruiser patrolling the Red Sea is to ensure supply to the Italians in Eritrea.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #7. CW. Red Sea, Eritrea and Ethiopia.

A New Zealand MIL corps is able to race in and capture an undefended Addis Ababa, thus liberating Ethiopia from the Italians. Well, Ethiopia isn't liberate just yet but will be at the end of the turn.

To the north, Alexander and forces move down towards Eritera. The goal there is to liberate Eritrea too. But, at best that's a few turns away.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #7. RAF Strategic Bombing Raids.

The CW uses 3 of their 5 air missions for three strategic bombing raids against Germany industry. The first two raids flown against targets in Germany fail to cause any damage. The third raid flown against Paris reduces Germany production by 1 point. This is the first RAF raid against Paris to cause any damage. Overall through, "Bomber" Harris is not happy with RAF strategic bombing performance.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #7. USSR. Strategic Bombing. Lodz, Occupied Poland.

The Soviets also try their had at bombing Germany production. They target Germany industry in Lodz. The Soviet bombing raid is an utter failure.

The Soviet High Command should order a tactical withdrawal towards the east, so the Luftwaffe will be out of range at the start of next turn. This is especially needed in the northern part of the front. The Soviets need to put space between the German land units and their frontlines...

Uh oh, the Soviets may be a bit too forward for your taste then. Maybe the allies, and especially the Soviets will get lucky and this turn will end on a roll of 1 (10% chance that it will). If not, I guess things in the East me very will get interesting for the allies.

It's hard, or at least for me it's hard, to strike that balance between space, time and units lost in the East.

When I posted this above I hadn't rolled for end of turn yet. Unbelievable! The Germans only got one good impulse for fighting against the Soviets this entire turn! Unbelievable!
