quote:

ORIGINAL: Centuur

The Allies better go first next turn, since the Luftwaffe has just been rearmed and refuelled...
The initiative track is back at 0 since the allies moved both first and last this turn. The axis win ties. So, like the initiate roll for this turn, the odds are the same for the next turn. Again, whichever side loses the first roll will request a re-roll. The odds for the axis winning the first roll is 55%. If the win and the allies request a re-roll, the odds of winning the re-roll is 64%. If the axis lose the first roll (45% chance) and request a re-roll, the odds for them (the axis) winning the re-roll is 45%. So the chance that the axis will win the initiative and get to move first next turn is,

55% x 64% + 45% x 45% = 55.45%. Practically a coin flip as was the initiate rolls for this turn. I love this game!

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Preliminary Production. CW.

In doing preliminary production for the CW I just realized that I had a major oversight, really, made a stupid blunder during CW's last combine move (impulse #7 and the last impulse of the turn).

I didn't replace the 4 CPs (1 sunk and 3 aborted) forced from Cape St. Vincent sea area by the axis during their last impulse. The result was that I had four factories needless idled. Now, as the CW player, I will get these four factories working again but it will cost me 4 saved oil points. That is, my stupid blunder will cost the CW 4 saved oil points.

Turn 12. Jul/Aug 1941. Axis #1. Japan. Northern China.

Japan through long and hard about attacking the northern flank of communist. This would be the 6-3 infantry corps two hexes south of Taiyuan and positioned it the valley of the Taihang mountain range. In the end, the risk of losing three Japanese land units was too great. If that happened then Japan would be in real trouble in the north. Hopefully, this move has scared the communist enough that they will pull back from the valley. If not, then the IJA will bring in more troops and have a real chance to roll up the northern flank of the communist. We'll soon see how Mao plays it.

Turn 12. Jul/Aug 1941. Axis #1. Italy. Naval.

Italy takes a naval. They choose not to initiate combat in the Red Sea, Cape St. Vincent and the Italian coast.

The CW, as the non-phasing player, also choose not to initiate combat in these areas either.

Turn 12. Jul/Aug 1941. Axis #1. Germany. The Eastern Front. Ground Support. Air to Air Combat.

Germany takes a land, conduct five land combats and ground support to three. The Soviet Red Air force opposed two of the ground support and even lent defensive ground support to one.

The first air to air combat was only opposed by Soviet fighters and did not include defensive ground support. The air to air battle was won by the Luftwaffe which got all their bombers through to the target.

The second air to air combat, which included Soviet fighters and bombers, was for air support to a critical attack that could open a path to Moscow if successful for the Germans. This critical attack was being conducted on a narrow front (i.e., one stack versus one stack) and saw now less than 6 Luftwaffe bombers attempting to provide 23 factors of ground support to the attack. The air battle that resulted was an embarrassment to the Luftwaffe. Though the Red Fighter unit was out classed it managed to get its bomber through to the target and shoot down two quality Luftwaffe bomber units.

Turn 12. Jul/Aug 1941. Axis #1. Germany. The Eastern Front. Land Combat 1, 2 & 3.

The second land combat (middle cap) was the critical one. While the Germans didn't lose the battle the fact that they failed to destroy or shatter the Soviet mech makes the result at best a draw. The main reason is that the Germans were trying to isolate the two corps directly northwest of the mech and by retreating those two corps remain in supply.

Turn 12. Jul/Aug 1941. Allied #2. CW Naval.

The CW takes a naval and the first naval moves they make is to replace the 4 "missing" CPs in Cape St. Vincent. This restores full production as intended by the CW player.

The RN transports into more ground troops into the Red Sea. Though at a significant advantage the RN doesn't want to risk their loaded transport and elects not to initiate combat. The Italian RM being heavily outnumber also chooses, as the non-phasing player, to initiate combat.

AlbertN -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/28/2016 5:04:20 AM)

Germany is badly played there.
For ground support you -wasted- an amount of planes which are meant to be used to ground strike over multiple impulses of a long turn (Jul / Aug) to stop the Soviets from running and getting benefits in combat.
By playing this way probably the Allies have an easy, easy life.

I'd suggest you to redo Germany turn - use 2 / 3 actions to bomb down to disrupt some Soviets - keep 1 / 2 to rebase FTRs and make sure to send some Italian airplane to help with rebasing upfront with the troops and provide cover vs the Soviet bombers.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (3/28/2016 5:05:05 AM)

Turn 12. Jul/Aug 1941. Allied #2. RN. Cape St. Vincent and the Italian Coast.

Neither side choose to initiate combat in both areas.

The reason the CW choose not to try to initiate combat in the Italian Coast was due to a German NAV and fighter nearby.

Turn 12. Jul/Aug 1941. Allied #2. RN. The East Med.

The RN does try to initiate combat in the East Med. However, both sides roll a 10 for their search. This makes me wonder if either side was really trying to find the other.
