rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/25/2016 2:07:32 AM)

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. Western Allies. Syria. East Med.

The Western Allies, CW, USA and France all take a combine. The USA uses one of its three naval moves to move the Canadian 5-3 MIL at sea in the 0-box of the West Med through the East Med and to the CW beachhead at Tripoli, Syria. The Italian unsuccessfully tried to intercept this naval force in the East Med.

The RN in the East Med tried to engage the Italians with the objective of gaining full control of the East Med and cutting supply to the Italian armies in the Middle East and North Africa.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. RN. East Med.

When the RN decides to try to initiate combat the Italians fly in an additional NAV to the 2-box. That NAV and the RN both find each other. A naval air combat ensure.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. RN. East Med. Naval Air Combat. Round 1.

RAF pilots blow a great opportunity to shoot down an unescorted and vulnerable Italian NAV air unit. Amazingly with the odds severly stacked against them the Italian NAV unit manages to force an RAF fighter unit to abort and then makes it through to attack and force an RN aircraft carrier to abort.

Apparently after the successful Torch Landings, RAF aircrews in the Eastern Med believe this war is nearly over and stayed out late celebrating. They couldn't be more dead wrong and if they don't get their act together that's exactly what they're going to be ... DEAD wrong!

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. RN. East Med. Naval Air Combat. Round 2.

The naval air combat continues with the Italians gaining the upper hand. Again, it's the aircrews that are at a serious disadvantage that win the air to air battle. An Italian fighter unit is shot down. However, the two Italian NAV units presence in the area sink an RN heavy cruiser.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. RN. East Med. Naval Air Combat. Round 3.

The third and final round of the naval battle in the East Med sees the RN sinking a Vichy CP, which is (was) capable of supplying the Italian armies in the Middle East and North Africa. Not anymore through. It's at the bottom of the Med.

The battle end with both sides fail to find the other.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. Western Allies. Land Combat. Vichy, North Africa.

Even with their limited land moves and land combats for a combine, the Western Allies are able to disembark and make two successful land combats. One to take Casablanca, Morocco and a second to take Tunis, Tunisia.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. Western Allies. Tunisia. Western Med.

The USN used a second naval move to move two ground units at sea in Cape St. Vincent to the port of Gabes, Tunisia. This secures the Western Allies eastern flank in Tunisia until the time that Monty and his forces change direct and head for Tripoli.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. CW. RAF Strategic Bombing. Paris.

Apparently too much celebration by RAF air crews isn't just limited to the Eastern Med.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. RN. Arabian Sea.

However, the RN does successfully force action in the Arabian Sea. Japanese I-boats commit to and join the action. This makes the RN a bit nervous given that the allies are running three convoy routes through the area.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. RN. Arabian Sea. Naval Combat. Round 1.

The first round sees an RN heavy cruiser forced to abort. In return, a Vichy CP and Japanese I-boat are also forced to abort.

Both sides stay but neither finds the other so combat ends after a single round.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. USN. The Marianas.

In the Marianas the USN elects to try to initiate combat but it's a IJN NAV unit that finds and surprises the USN. The IJN, which is at a severe disadvantage, use their surprise points to avoid combat.

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. USN. Ground Strike. Truk.

USN carrier based planes continue their ground strike against Truk and Yamamoto's HQ. The ground strike, though not completely ineffective, is somewhat disappointing.

NOTE: the presence of a "phantom" USN SBD-5 CVP mixed in with the Japanese. This has been reported as a bug in the Tech forum. This same SBD-5 CVP also appears to be present of the USN Enterprise. I wonder if Mr. Spock or Captain Kirk have something to do with this? [:)]

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/25/2016 3:05:09 AM)

Turn 17. May/June 1941. Allied #6. USSR. Land Combat.

The Soviets successfully counterattack the German mech corps that broke through their lines close to Moscow. The choose to retreat and disorganized the corps instead of shattering it. The hex to where it was retreated, one hex southwest, also includes a disorganized division. Hopefully for the Soviets this should clog up the German front lines and make attacks more difficult during their next impulse.
