Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #7. Weather.

Rain starts in the North Monsoon which will significantly slow the Japanese down in southern China.

Actions: All three axis (Germany, Japan and Italy) take a land.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #7. Japan. Northern China.

Japan in the north continue their retreat, this time leaving a fighter unit behind and subject to destruction if the turn doesn't end.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #7. Italy. Syria. Middle East. North Africa.

The Italian army while still in supply pours into Syria and around the CW bridgehead in Tropoli, Syria. The Italians will soon have to make a do or die attack against the CW while their army is still in supply. It's expected that this attack will be a long shot for the Italians but a shot never the less.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #7. Germany. The Eastern Front. North.

It looks like Germany with the help of the Finns are starting to get their northern flank in East in order. The issue facing the Germans now is the lack of ground troops. They need numbers. They need more infantry.

Courtenay -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/25/2016 5:07:38 AM)

I'm curious about why the Germans decided to keep their 2 point jagdpanzer division rather than their 9-5 SS MECH. It would seem to me that the MECH would generally be more useful.

Spur of the moment decision. Aren't both units 5 BPs? And, I much more likely to rebuild the mech than the division. This sort of forces me to "build" the division.

Yes, you are much more likely to rebuild the MECH, because it is a better unit. Thus one should keep it. One must remember -- cost is not value. The number of build points a unit costs is not its worth. Some units that cost a given amount are much more valuable than others. If one has a choice of which unit to destroy, one should keep the higher value one unless one has a very good reason not to.

Sound logic. Choose the unit to save that you would rebuild first if all were lost. Can't argue with that. Well I can but not logically. [:)]

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. USSR. Northern Front.

The Soviets take a land, make no attacks and move units to shore up their defenses as best as they can.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/26/2016 1:56:47 AM)

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. USSR. Southern Front.

While the situation for the Soviets on their Northern Front is bad, the situation in the south is a disaster.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/26/2016 2:00:44 AM)

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. Northern China.

Mao overruns and destroys the lone and disorganized IJA air unit. He orders his forces to shift to the north and push the Japanese flank there. He had visions off attacking the lone IJA mountain corps and breaking the northern flank of Terachi's army group but the odds just weren't there ( < 3a).

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/26/2016 2:03:08 AM)

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. RN. East Med.

The CW takes a combine. The RN tries but fails to initiate combat in the East Med. Once again the Italians keep supply flowing to their armies in the Middle East and North Africa.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/26/2016 2:04:22 AM)

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. RN. Italian Coast.

The RN also unsuccessfully tries to initiate combat with the Italians off the Italian coast.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. RN. Western Med. Round 1.

The RN however is able to initiate combat against a lone Italian fighter and Vichy CP in the Western Med. The lone Italian fighter is forced to abort.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/26/2016 2:07:09 AM)

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. RN. Western Med. Round 2.

The RN is able to keep the naval battle going and sinks the Vichy CP. This gives the Western Allies complete and total control of the Western Med.

If only the RN could do that in the East Med!

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. RAF. Strategic Bombing. Paris, France.

Long range RAF strategic bombers once again fail to hit German factories hiding in the "City of Lights".

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. RN. Ground Strike. Italian Troops, Damascus Syria.

Apparently RN carrier aircrews are not immune from not being able to hit their target. Though to be fair, they needed a die roll of 1, which gave them only a 19% chance of disorganizing something. But still, ...

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. Western Allies. Vichy, North Africa.

The Western Allies push into Algeria from both the East and the West.

A CW mech corps crosses the border from Tunisia into Libya.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #9. Weather.

Well, the Soviets may have gotten the minor miracle that they needed. The weather roll produces storms in the Arctic and rain in the North Temperate.

Actions: Both Italy and Japan take a land and with the poor weather the Germans decide to take a naval, primary to move their 8 u-boat units spread over three ports out to sea and into allied convoy lines. What surprised me a bit was that the Germans also had 15 battleships, 12 heavy cruisers and 2 CPs to move. Most of this surface force was Vichy (10 CAs, 10 BBs and 2 CPs) and based in the Med.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #9. German KM. North Sea.

The Germans move two units of the KM into the North Sea to challenge the RN for control of that area. However, neither side was able to locate the other so no combat occurred.

Two Germany u-boat units were moved into the Bay of Biscay but unsuccessfully tried to initiate combat.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #9. German U-boats. Bismarck. North Atlantic.

In the North Atlantic the Germans moved 5 u-boat units and the Bismarck to hunt for allied convoys. However, the CW was able to detect and avoid this force. The Western Allies breathed a sigh of relief over that result!

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #9. German U-boats. Italian Subs. Cape St. Vincent.

However, off of Cape St. Vincent a lone German u-boat unit meets up with 3 Italian sub units already there. The German u-boat unit manages to find, surprise and initiate combat against a vastly superior force.
