Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #11. Japan. Bismarck Sea.

The most interesting action this impulse occurred in the Bismarck Sea. The Japanese set in a transport to load Yamamato and get him back to Japan during the return to base phase where he could do the most good. The fact is that Yamamato is being wasted on Truk so Japanese high command agreed to this high risk transport mission.

Of course the Japanese elect not to try to initiate a naval combat.

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #11. USN. Bismarck Sea.

However the USN does and successfully forces a naval air combat.

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #11. USN. Bismarck Sea. Naval Air Battle.

A costly naval air battle for the Japanese. The Japanese lost both Yamamoto and this only Amph unit.

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #11. IJN. Bismarck Sea. Surface Naval Battle.

Both sides decide to stay and now it's the Japanese turn to surprise the allies and isolate their transports.

Note that when clicking through for the Japanese I meant to use 4 surprise points in order to force a surface naval battle. However, I didn't. I came to a workaround where neither side choose a naval air allowing the battle to default to a surface battle. And then as the Japanese player I only used 3 of the 7 surprise points owing to the fact that the remaining 4 points would have been required to force this battle.

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #11. IJN. Bismarck Sea. Surface Naval Battle. Round 1.

The allies dodge a bullet. The loaded USN could have easily been sunk. Instead it's only damaged and its cargo will arrive next turn as reinforcements.

Both sides stay but the battle ends and neither is able to find the other.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Germany. The Eastern Front, North.

The stories of the Wehrmacht demise on the Eastern Front have greatly been exaggerated.

In the north, the hero city of Pskvo finally falls and the Wehrmacht move to within one hex of Moscow.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Germany. The Eastern Front, South.

In the south, the hero city of Odessa also falls. Both Pskvo and Odessa held out for almost 2-years. Germany now controls both.

Lots of air and ground combat this impulse on the Eastern Front.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Italy.

Most of the action involving Italy, who took a combine, this impulse was naval, or sub. Italy used their two land moves to reposition two critical units. Messina, once held by the CW, is now held by two Italian corps.
