BrianG -> BrianG V Sillyflower (open for discussion) (2/23/2016 12:34:11 AM)

Well, seeing how I have been kicked around pretty good so far I will skip any and all pictures I have from before
Nov 20, 42.

NO SILYFLOWER:

The following is an up to date view.

BrianG -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 12:36:49 AM)

First. I do not want to loose these units.

I have lost way too many.

I have not been able to break any pockets so far over these first 23 turns.

Here goes.

First attack the Italians and seize the vino.

BrianG -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 12:37:56 AM)

Here are the units I lined up for the first really big must win battle

BrianG -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 12:38:54 AM)

Victory and German unit pushed north

BrianG -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 12:42:22 AM)

I scrap together 3 cav units and attack.

Vatutin much better than this German General Obstfelber.

The southern pincer succeeds.

[image]local://upfiles/41373/AEC7BBDE529C4973919DF84BB41A1221.jpg[/image]

BrianG -> north flank (2/23/2016 12:46:07 AM)

btw again using soak off attacks. Must drain German supply.

Here northern shoulder is cut. I think I have 2 panzer 3 mot and 1.3 inf div in pockets.

And Blizzard 2 turns away.

If he reopens the pocket I need to break it. He would then be in deep problems come blizzard.

BrianG -> Secret title (2/23/2016 12:50:33 AM)

I was going to call this 34th army to the rescue.

They will be sent to where pocket is cut off. Good general.

The major river down here are impossible to attack over in snow season.

Good D position but if I can flank his front (December blizzard),
from above Stalino, he have to do a hasty retreat West.

BrianG -> Bridgehead (2/23/2016 12:52:44 AM)

For some reason he left this bridgehead on his side of the river.

I attack the Rum tank and funnel in troops.

btw The Russian 41 Winter O starts in November not in December.

I also send over 3 divisions into the hex just NW of Voroshilvalod

BrianG -> East of Kursk (2/23/2016 12:56:07 AM)

I attack West against split up Inf Div and a few whole ones.

The retreat here is odd b/c the retreat casualties are very low imo. The retreat was into a zoc.

My tanks here will head SW.

BrianG -> Final view (2/23/2016 12:58:52 AM)

I also attacked him just NW of the pocket and will try to cause some flanks problems.

His best move may be to route out all the units.

But he also has seen what damage I have taken so I would not be surprised If he attempts another larger pocket or just consolidates this one.

In any case he will have more than a few units in bad spots for the blizzard.

The 34th has arrived to save the day. Which will be needed next week.

This is where we are as of last night.

That makes you all very up to date!

timmyab -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 2:07:44 AM)

Being a conservative type of player I would just rout them out I think. No point in taking chances with the blizzard looming.
Well done on saving those guys if he does.

ericv -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 7:44:12 AM)

I liked your game against Pelton a lot, so Good Luck in this one! you are going to need it

RKhan -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 8:16:58 AM)

Thank you for demonstrating this attack sequence. I have just started to effectively attack in my game as Soviets and it helps to see your approach.

Given the date, I assume the battle was fought in snow?

Wuffer -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 9:24:37 AM)

Hi,
allways interesting to see both sides.
But casualities appears to be _very_ low all across the map?
Let's hope this didn't become an issue.

But great game so far, I would love to see a blowing counteroffensive.

chaos45 -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 12:47:04 PM)

German losses have been lowered a lot in this new Patch. The new C/W- counter-attack/withdrawal rule based on experience has probably cut German losses by about 50% just from what Ive noticed over 3 turns.

However massive bombing by the Soviet airforce has more than made up for the reduced combat casualties at least 1943 on.

Manstein63 -> RE: BrianG V Sillyflower (NO Sillyflower) (2/23/2016 2:06:34 PM)

As someone who is just about to endure some serious pain a la Monsieur Sillyflower (playing the Axis to his Soviet with blizzard starting next turn) I would like to extend my best wishes to you. In my last game against him where I was the Russian I was in a similar position to you, but I collapsed in 1942 mainly due to the AP crunch (or at least that what I tell everyone). So although it may appear to be bleak the fact that you can get your lost units back now should make it more of a contest going into 42 & beyond.
Once again good luck
Manstein63

BrianG -> turn 24 (2/24/2016 1:28:27 PM)

Nothing good to report.

Sillyflower cleared up the lower mess and is generally behind good river defense positions.

My Army is weak and will mount poor blizzard and worse now that retreat casualties are almost zilch.

Good timing for this change.

My only armament which will be at full strength in the future is tanks. Have not lost any tank factories.

chaos45 -> RE: turn 24 (2/24/2016 3:00:56 PM)

I don't know the pertinent facts of Army strength but based on the amount of Pockets I would guess the Soviet Army is very weak. Brian should be able to do an offensive still just from the Bonus but it wont be super strong and will leave the Germans in a very good position come 1942. Losing the North/Moscow/Rostov all before the end of 1941 is crushing to Soviet manpower recruitment. Even if the population displaced it will be damaged for a long time, which means a massive hit since he loses the massive multiplier for 1941 on those key centers.

This doesn't look good for the soviets at all.

BrianG -> !st blizzard (3/12/2016 5:31:23 AM)

I think this was my highlight

I think because of his bombers shot down.

BrianG -> 2nd blizzard (3/12/2016 5:32:49 AM)

low retreat casualties. I used soak off attacks to get them in low supply/

[image]local://upfiles/41373/DF4AD4CFE3D34AA7AAF241FE150F612A.jpg[/image]

BrianG -> 2nd blizzard (3/12/2016 5:34:25 AM)

Will they stay trapped?

that is the question.

EwaldvonKleist -> RE: 2nd blizzard (4/17/2016 9:28:18 PM)

Hello,
i have a question: Where is/was the sense of your Crimea attack in your game vs. Sillyflower? As far as i understood so far, ingame the blizzard time (stalin thought different about this) should allow the soviet player to gain some terrain to ease defense in 1942 (like retaking the eastern bank of a large river). But which advantage does a crime attack give the soviet player, because from a geometric point of view the crimea spearhead is easy to cut off?
No offense, i only want to learn and understand.

BrianG -> Late withdrawel (4/17/2016 10:40:32 PM)

I was one turn too late on my scheduled retreat back to the original lines.

I also attacked out trying to get some more experienced units.

And maybe a guards Army.

Frankly supply should be normal down here and not restricted as it is.
And the trains should move troops although they wont.
This has allowed German to defend with zilch near Crimea over the blizzard

M60A3TTS -> RE: Late withdrawel (4/18/2016 3:20:07 AM)

The Soviet CVs are so low I wouldn't believe this was blizzard if the turn wasn't displayed.

BrianG -> t28 (5/7/2016 5:32:05 PM)

my weekly highlight.

Not too many of these

[image]local://upfiles/41373/A1B6B834A3964DE39A5D6C390FF4D0CF.jpg[/image]

BrianG -> RE: t28 (5/7/2016 5:34:05 PM)

Lowlight

as you can see a fairly large attacks.

U can guess the result..

BrianG -> RE: t28 (5/7/2016 5:39:39 PM)

My weekly highlight.

Maybe my only German blizzard surrenders.

[image]local://upfiles/41373/282D7F1E1E884B7E845B4C57F39F49D1.jpg[/image]

BrianG -> t29 (5/7/2016 5:40:54 PM)

a second attack. That succeeds!!

[image]local://upfiles/41373/8980679D516445B382F26D2E1D1CB4E8.jpg[/image]

BrianG -> RE: t29 (5/7/2016 5:43:14 PM)

More for turn 29.

Here I routed a panzer HQ.

BrianG -> Turn 31 (5/7/2016 5:45:52 PM)

High water mark. At this point I knew I had to start retreating back to the main lines.

Troops here are nothing special.
