The fast transport got caught on the way out by his CVs, CA Chokai, 3 dd and a APD all sunk:(
Worse, troops lost as well

Me thinks a chance of victory is slipping away

Have ordered my 3 fully operational CVs to loiter near lunganville, set to react, I must get a CV on CV battle

Unloaded the A/C from remaining carriers, set most to training.
Big gulp. Its still early in the game, Im sending home my very tired CVs a BB and about 15 other surface combatants, Mogami, I hope your advice is right. Simply, too much system damage to use them, so home they go, the A/C are desperately needed.

returning troops to truck works, 170th reg was 50 percent disrupted only 10 days ago, nearly full strength again

other news, 35th brigade on the way to buna, Im still not too worried about Lea,lea , I think wobbly will have to evac as the bombing starts to hurt him

Spent a bit of time thinking about this, plan B, well, plan A, operation cutlery isnt quite dead yet.
Wobbly is obviously a bit short of troops, his last attack on Lunganville stalled, now his CVs and LBA air is gathering in the area.
PM is going OK, 35th brigade is on the way, it will take time, but Im happy with that front

Evac went OK, so those regiments will be available later on, for the thrust at Rockingham.
In the meantime, how many troops at Koumac, a quick thrust there, frustrate him a little (operation knife), then as he starts moving troops again, another grab at Lunganville

I want to drive him crazy chasing small landings everywhere, and still go for the auto victory

If it all goes to custard, well, I can claim beginner standard cant I:D ?

Oh, by the by, not much happened that turn, his CVs are in Noumea, his LBA is bobing hell out of me, and his land forces at Lunganville sure aint strong enough yet.

Our troops at lunganville begin to collapse, still, Im not too disa pointed. my fleet is reasting, supplies are flowing, and troops are rotating, all the while wobbly concentartes on SOPAC.

gathering troops and a fast transport TF, (and fuel, always no fuel!) for a niusance raid on koumac.

Sent home Mutsu today, 30 system damage

Subs continue a steady attrition of APs, put a heap of A/c on anti sub patrol at lunga, lets see how that goes.

All quiet everywhere else

Regret to inform emperor that our troops have laid down there arms at Lunganville.

have ordered long range recon of Noumea, and associated bases, hopefully to hide the next target, Koumac, a suicide fast transport run, with CV back up, in about 3 days time.

My LBa is slowly building up steam against Lea lea, all else is quiet.

Well the absolutely worse thing possible happened, THE WIFE SAID FINISH TURN NOW AND LOG OFF OR ELSE... and I had to rush the turn instead of lavishing attention to every ship and plane and pilot and regiment and and and....

Imperial HQ and its antiquated logistics system finally get organised. We do not have a clue as too what the opposition is up to, although the number of seagulls hovering around Lea Lea seem to indicate more forces being snuck into the place.

The lack of LBA from Noumea indicates to me that a great hammer blow is just waiting for my navy to poke its nose into the PM area.
So Ive just got to grin an bear it, and hope the buna reinforcements get there in time, little else I can do

Fuel arriving allows operation knife to commence.
A suicide landing at koumac by a small naval garrison force( volunteers to a man!) will be backed up by 2 task forces.
1 will contain 3cv, the other 2BB, 1cv packed with cap, hopefully his cvs will strke it, and I wont see "unable to locate target":rolleyes: this time

Whatever, Im going to sail right to the coastof Koumac and force a CV on Cv battle, I really feel that wobbly is winning just by avoiding damage to his CVs so far, I will rectify this!!!

If this goes to custard then its defend to the death time, long live the emperor, down with kiwi ,going to loose the world cup (to the usa) scum!

Operation Knife enters the coral sea headed south.
Enemy CVs sighted half way between lunganville and koumac, covering an op for sure. I feel a battle coming on
Wobbly I think continues to recover troops from Lea lea, I have ordered my troops to advance and attack.
MY LBA is getting in some good practice :D on his stranded troops.

Sent lots of ships home, all very tired.

Sending damaged ships home has returned piority to high, Im hoping for some more BBs, CVs are rare as hens teeth at the moment.

Action is imminent, he has his CVs just of wunpunko, I bet he thinks a fast transport or bombardment run is on the way, well 4 cvs 1 BB and escorts are headed at full speed towards him.
Cap is 30%, so I hope to hurt him, and I will live with the loss I probably will get. I know that loosing CVs now means no hope of a win, but.... if I get lucky I might get a game winning turn myself.
Thunderstorms tomorrow, to add a twist.

Elsewhere 35th brigade is unloading at Buna, the kokoda trail is packed with troops going every which way, if wobbly cared to look, PM is almost empty at the moment, however I think Lea,lea is emptying fast.
Tomorrow should be interesting!!

Imperial command expresses disgust as once again the Allied fleet seemingly disapears, and again avoids action.

The message literally screams over the ether - ATTACK!
operation Knife refuels, and again moves towards Koumac, hoping to force an engagement.
Fingers crossed that LBA wont hit us, we plunge south.
Fight wobbly, be a KIWI, not a sheep,FIGHT!:D

My fast transport run to koumac has been spotted, as with all the supporting ships.
My guess is that heaps of troops will now be airlifted into koumac, so Ive got LRCAP set over the place.
Surely this will bring wobbly out to play, he keeps dodging and weaving
On another front wobbly indescretely asked how to LBA at night lunga (on another forum), and guess what, I see 100 plus bombers at lunganville -co incidence?
So Ill have to deal with that.
Nearly all my troops are home at truck, sorting them out.
At buna 2 full regiments are making there way to PM, 2 shattered ones will begin loading very soon
The date is August 1, Im stretched, but auto victory is still in reach, if Im lucky.
rear base building is slow but happening.

Its a bloody good game.

The blade broke..... troops landed at Koumac, which suddenly seemed full of troops, planes and MINES!!

Wobbly LBA and his CVs got in on the act, and my bombardment force failed to, and my LRCAP went missing????!!!:mad:

A total Fiasco, 5, repeat 5 APDs sunk, and 3 DDs sunk

Im sure there is a lesson in there somewhere, buggared if I can find it but.

FT attacks should be as quiet as possible - unfortunately, by supporting the FT TF with so much firepower you allowed your intentions to be too clear. You should have done a diversionary attack elsewhere and let the FT just sneak in.

Finally, you've got to reconsider when a "niusance raid" becomes more of a "niusance" to you than to your opponent. You knew that he was building up forces in that area - what was your overall objective in planning that raid? What did you hope to gain by it?

Raiding should always have a strategic purpose, particularly for the Japanese player. It's time to go back an re-read Sun-Szui, young grasshopper... ;)

Well Quark, this is how it is, this is the 3rd PBEM game I have played, the 1st was the 3 month pm scenerio, I had a great win as IJN, the 2nd was scene 19, again a win as IJN, but this game has been frustratingly different. (trust my luck to get a whipping in public)
Wobbly is playing the perfect game as the Allies, keeping his CVs away from my CVs, and constantly bleeding my forces little bit by little bit.
Scene 17 is radically different from 19, the air forces available are so much less, and already experience levels are falling.
Still all that is no excuse for playing like ****e like I have the last month of game time, the loss of the Kaga and co, the invasion of PM, its all put me way of balance.

I cant afford any more fiascos like what just happened, I have been brooding about going into my shell, conserving my forces, and maybe going for a last frantic lunge nearer December .

It has also just occured to myself that Wobbly can build an airfield at Lea Lea, which would be very very bad.

I sense clouds of Doom building up

Herbieh,
My esteemed opponent Condor regularly trades advice with Wobbly. Thus my comment on banding together. Condor has gotten frustratingly sneaky this game. My current invasion of Cairns has gone fairly well(it will fall in 3 turns) but at a staggering cost. Roughly 20 transports lost; about half to subs. Only good thing about that has been most were empty.

Condor put me on the defensive early on also with hits on Shok and Kaga. Damage wasn't serious just enough to put them out for a while and slow me down. Condor just loves to fly in his CV squadrons to a land base and surprise you with a new fresh attack. He just tried it again last turn. Wobbly has also been inventive. Actually it has been helpful to see the advice he has been given then I have taken steps that Condor can't do those to me :) .

As IJN we can't give up the initiative. Once we do that we've resigned ourselves to being battered into the ground by LBA. You lost some APDs and couple DD's. Not game losing losses. Decide your strategic thrust and decisively go for it. Now. You don't have time to waste. Make Wobbly react to you. You'll take losses and curse up and down but at least you are dictating the action. Do it while you can. Rockhampton has been your goal before. Ok the raid didn't work but Wobbly will be forced to respond to a move against Oz. If you wait until Dec he will have tons more troops/LBA and your odds go way down.

And just think while you are having so much fun invading you can drink beer making it all much more worthwhile. :)

Of course, when one finds a leak in a security system, one usually just can't help telling others about how smart they are :)

Looks New Zealand and Chicago will have to communicate strategy via PM (pun intended).

Btw, good luck taking Cairns. Have you seen what is at Innisfail now that your pencil pushers couldn't hold it?

Thanks guys, it is encouraging to hear people actually read this stuff, after a bout of depression, Ive cheered up, and will continue the grand plan, a grab at rockingham in November / december.

In the meantime, yes I must keep the pressure up, so in about two weeks time( game time) another major thrust, this again at Lunganville, plenty of BBs for surface bombardment.
Not quite enough troops available just yet, so give me time and petrol, and we will keep up the offensive.

Hopefully wobbly will be scrabbling for troops as well, and leave Aussie exposed, I want him to think Im New hebrides fixated.

Its a great game isnt it!!!

I got a bit depressed too after being mashed by a 500lb gorilla called the Imperial Japanese Navy early in a scenario 17 PBEM.

I was trying a new strategy called 'leading with your chin', where my surface taskforces were sent into range of my opponents 10 CV's, thinking my AA would decimate his aircraft and my wounded ships would dock at the port they were in, then of course my fresh CV's would move in the hit his CV's.

Trouble is, the surface taskforce ships were all just sunk outright and the much vaunted allies AA inflicted negligible damage to his aircraft, then when my CV's moved forward there was of course a thunderstorm so his CV's just withdrew.
All in all, a total disaster.

Felt like uninstalling UV and running my car several times over the CD , but after a day or so I've bounced back.
Gotta try and stay positive Herbieh...and yes it's a great game.:)

Hi AC,
Well actually I was referring to advice others gave like Frag and Raver etc. They are very evil :) . Don't want to meet them in a game yet. Like leading a lamb to slaughter.

And yes the para drop was very clever. I'm referring to it and my response in the AAR :D . I had actually put a full strength naval garrison there to discourage such antics but you did very well to wipe me out in one turn.

Its very tough sometimes to post in either Herbieh's or Wobbly's AAR without giving something away.

Yes its a great game :) :) . Too great.

Well Ive had a good look at my forces, and a good look at my bases , no wife and kids to cook for tonight, which usually impacts big time, and things are not too bad, you get a squadron here, one there, and suddenly you have a air force.

Im gathering for the big lunganville effort, I calculate 3 and a half regiments available, but they are at truck.
4 cvs, 5 BBs and still enough escorts.

Wobbly I hope will use troops on lunganville to clean up wunpunko and port vila, and leave it open again.

So here we go, time to attack, but this time the troops will be staying.

Pm reinforcements are almost there, and a regiment arrives at Lea lea very soon, be interested in what it finds.

Wobbly Cvs continue to skulk at the edge of the board.
This time he must come out( said that before! )

Well, ship reinforcement remains at high, and the IJN decides on new plans, actually the old plan,still the grab for lunganville, then rockingham.

For Lunganville Im gathering 3 and a half regiments, its amazing how quick Truck revives them, and the bulk of the fleet.

Ive ordered fighter sweeps and recon to start over OZ as a feint, recon over lunganville has been stopped, it does appear that only a few combat troops and engineers remain there, but it is packed with LBA, my 4 fast BB will fix that.
A quiet day
2 weeks and it will begin.
