Pretty awesome stuff.

Very impressive, especially some of the animals coming out of the trees toward the viewer.

Pretty awesome stuff.

Saw carvings like that in Vientiane, Laos - 12 foot long wood slabs carved with dozens of elephants in various actions (elephants are considered good luck animals). The proportions and details were exquisite. But the carving above with the jungle leaf relief surpasses that! [&o]

Google street view from Legaspi of that volcano that's about to blow. I guess I better move my aviation unit out of there.

Had an interesting bird thing happen last week. We are birders and my wife is one of the keepers of the password for the Big Horn Audubon. Wed night a fellow posted to it and my wife got the posting since they have to be approved. A rancher found an Eagle on the ground, unable to fly on his ranch. He called fish and game but it was after hours. So we went out there. Dark as inside a bear's back side, 5 degrees. He led us in the truck through the pasture and then we had to hike in the rest of the way. Sure enough, immature female bald eagle. We improvised a container by using two storage tubs opposite each other and ziptied together at the rim. Bird was fiesty but definitely grounded. We put her in the crate, that in the truck (4Runner) and called "special" phone numbers for fish and games. Ones they answer all the time. F&G said we could take her by in the morning and they would evaluate her. We decided that evaluate meant put her down if she was too bad off. Bad answer for us. So we decided to take her to a rescue in Cody WY that we have dealt with before. We are bird of prey transporter volunteers... The weather was pretty bad, snowy, cold and going over the Big Horns at night is foolish some days, and that was one of them. The Government guy said it was ok to keep the bird overnight and the person who runs the rescue gave us pointers on keeping her. So she spent the night in a spare bedroom so she would be warm.
In the morning when I put her in the truck for the ride to the shelter, she looked up through one of the custom made air holes and cooed at me. Wonderful bird.
Turns out she has lead poisoning, 11 times the fatal limit. She is undergoing de-leading or whatever one calls it and seems to be doing better. Here she is. If you wish to donate, please do, they always need money and vets bills are really high, but she goes to a lot of effort and expense to save these birds.

Picture taken by the rancher before the sun went down. We din't take pics of the bird when we had her to keep her calm.

Things are dire when a Mourning Dove's "colour" upstages your other visitors' garb. Grim Reaper birds? [:D]

Poor girl. I imagine deleading would involve blood transfusions. I wonder where they get the volunteers to give blood?

My wife got "adopted" by a mourning dove when she still lived in El Salvador, bird walked in from the back patio and decided
it was home. She named it Pichocho and it followed her everywhere in the house and cooed when she would say, "Canta Pichocho."

Getting this series as a birthday present .... looking forward to watching ......

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (1/16/2018 2:12:23 AM)

When you play them your TV will be receiving from both the vertical and the horizontal. Wait, isn't that the Outer Limits?

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (1/16/2018 2:16:39 AM)

Sometimes people ask what do you listen to when you are playing the game? I've tried having koto music in the background but it's just too distracting. I recommend this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M73x3O7dhmg&t=16s the only thing is you might need to adjust the volume. Anything by Philip Glass will do.

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (1/16/2018 2:19:30 AM)

The video is pretty cool, too. Watching his hands leaves you with nothing to play the game though.

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (1/16/2018 2:56:29 AM)

His hands remind me of raptors feeding on the flesh of an Ornithsciae.

I've had an off and on love affair with baseball. I'm one of those who was upset with Ken Burns for not even mentioning Stan Musial in his epic. I also have a lot of respect for some of the umpires that have made the game work and this obit is very appropriate in both cases.

To Mishima, per Philip Glass, the ideal.

Ok, he made some good music there but his videos are not gonna win any awards!

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (1/17/2018 8:35:33 PM)

OK, I'm going to say this, and I'm not going to say it just once, this is a great book by Tom Wolfe, and a great movie based on the book, and a great theme for the movie and I just adore this trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCblQ_fnPpc

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (1/17/2018 8:44:42 PM)

Here's to Sam Shepard, a great playwright and a really good actor.

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (1/18/2018 2:03:37 AM)

So, I'm working on my turn and listening to Beethoven's 9th. There's only one who can be compared to Beet and that's Mozart. Brahms and St. Saens may sound like immitations, but that's not fair to them. So B. was completely deaf when he wrote the 9th. Nonetheless he could hear better than me. Geez

Admiral DadMan -> RE: OT Things to ponder (1/18/2018 2:38:43 PM)

Nearly 2 years later, and still pondering...
