Here are three male cowbirds at one of my feeders. Cowbirds behave similarly to Cuckoo birds in that they lay their eggs in the nests of other birds. Hmmm - the coloration suggests these are Jersey Cow Birds. They might have the same cranky disposition as their namesake (channel island) cows.

There is some debate on how Cowbirds learn their distinctive song since they aren't raised by their parents. Is it instinct? Part of their song I would describe as the sound of someone wading through water, ankle deep.
