ORIGINAL: Courtenay I'm curious that you didn't take the X on the Erebus. That ship is so bad, that I really don't mind too much if it sinks. warspite1 If I give an X to Erebus - she almost certainly sinks (unless I get extremely lucky). If I put elements of the old 5th Battle Squadron in the way, then (unless I get unlucky) the venerable Valiant and Barham will survive - and allow Erebus to survive too. Erebus is not 'bad' - she is perfectly good for convoy defence. At this time the CW cannot afford to lose such precious ships. Of course, the CW cannot afford to lose Valiant and Barham either - but because of the odds, I felt the action taken was the best way to keep all three in the game and I still had a fleet in the Bay of Biscay to take on the German survivors had I been lucky enough to find them. That was my thinking - I am sure others will disagree..... Well Mr. Warspite, take note that I agree with you. I would have put the X on the Valiant too. If there wouldn't have been a BB with a 2 or 3 on defense, I would have thosen the Erebus. It's not the fact that it is a usefull ship for convoy escort duty, but the fact that a loss of a cruiser is bad for the CW (especially when not playing with the light cruisers), even if that cruiser is the old and obsolete Erebus. One or two BB lost by the CW is just a scratch. A couple of cruisers lost means problems with convoy escort duties...
