What a half!!

1-1 - Wales have to be careful with three defenders booked already but what a performance they are giving against the highly fancied Belgians....

Franciscus -> RE: European Championship (7/1/2016 10:02:26 PM)

I really, really, was not expecting this !! [X(]

And, now, I don't know what is more amazing, but either Portugal or Wales will reach the final game...[:D]

Congratulations to Wales [&o]

warspite1 -> RE: European Championship (7/1/2016 10:21:55 PM)

[X(]

That was a loooooooooong 35 minutes. I'm shattered.

The quality of the goals though - what a performance from Pele er sorry, I mean Hal Robson-Kanu [&o]

They are going to miss Ben Davies and Ramsey, but I'm looking forward to Wednesday already - Ronaldo vs Bale [:)]

loki100 -> RE: European Championship (7/1/2016 10:33:48 PM)

that was quite amazing ... [;)]

warspite1 -> RE: European Championship (7/2/2016 7:13:08 AM)

Well the dust has settled, allowing a bit of reflection.

Wow! What a performance. I am not too happy that certain people seem to be getting a bit carried away, because lets face it, Portugal is going to be one tough game - Ronaldo, Nani, Sanches..... And the Welsh will have to play it without Ramsay and Davies.

But anyway, back to last night. Sure the Welsh were hanging on a bit for a time, but for the majority of the game they were every bit as good as anything the fancied Belgians (and their golden generation [8|]) could offer. This wasn't some plucky underdog getting a lead and then hanging on like grim death.

What was really surprising to me was the skill on display. They had plenty of possession - and not just mucking around in your own half possession.

The set-pieces (in total contrast to another team I could mention) looked like they were worked on. They had a plan. Ashley Williams equaliser being an obvious example. And funnily enough, Robson-Kanu was not taking corners. Go figure.

Robson-Kanu's goal is a contender for goal of the tournament. It wasn't just the Cruyff turn and the silky finish. The build up - Bale's pin point accurate pass and Ramsey's run into space, pulling the defenders apart were crucial. I was screaming at the TV for HRK to pass it to Taylor - and of course that is exactly what three Belgian defenders thought he would do.....

Equally for the 3rd goal, you had Chris Gunter (ex-Spurs [:(]) doing what Walker was doing against Russia, taking people on, getting a cross in - the difference was that Wales had a striker in the box - and what a great finish from Vokes (a much more difficult header than either Fellaini or Lukaku had).

Great match. Great display.

Now, the small matter of Germany vs Italy - and apparently the Germans have never beaten Italy in tournament football.......

AndyG1 -> RE: European Championship (7/2/2016 7:33:09 AM)

And to think HRK doesn't even have a club to play for when this is all over!

I rather fancy Italy to win again. Conte has rebuilt their traditional approach of being downright hard to play against without just being over-defensive. Should be the classic match of the tournament so far (there, that is that doomed to a sterile 0-0 and penalties [;)])

I only partly concur.[;)] Our Red Devils were bad, really bad. Bad play, individually. Bad play, as a team. Bad tactic. No spirit. No excuse.

But Wales ! Where to begin ? That's a TEAM ! And so much for the so-called lack of technicians, the best moves were done by Welsh players. At least, nobody may say that Wales won because Belgium badly played, they were fantastic on their own and fully deserve their victory. And thank to them for the show. I'll be rooting for them against Portugal.

I've mentioned before, this is now two tournaments that the Belgians have flattered to deceive. They ARE the England of the 2000's. Look at the Belgians on paper. There is little weakness - Hazard, Courtois, Dembele, De Bruyne, Alderweirald, Vertonghen - the list goes on. These are seriously good footballers. But just like the England of Gerrard, Scholes, Cole, Beckham etc; come a tournament and.......

Indeed. Players who do great in a regular club, but can't play as well together in a national team. When they individually play well, they make illusion, like against Eire and Hungary - but the opposition was not as good as other teams. And when they play badly, like yesterday...

In short, very good against sub-par nations, where individual actions can make the difference. But even while #1 at FIFA ranking, unable to beat nations of the top, or rather, unable to beat nations solid as a block where team cohesion and tactic are needed.

A what a collection of spoilt kids who won't make efforts when not at their preferred position, like De Bruyne showed against Italy and earlier during the preparation. And how come that Lukaku is so prolific with Everton but mute with the Red Devils ? I'm more and more pushed to think it's a question of will. :-(

warspite1 -> RE: European Championship (7/2/2016 9:55:35 PM)

1. What the hell was Boateng doing? [X(]
2. That is Bonucci's first ever penalty in his professional career - how come he was taking the penalty?? [X(]

warspite1 -> RE: European Championship (7/2/2016 11:10:38 PM)

What can you say about the Germans that hasn't already been said? I don't think they were great tonight - they tried too much England-style farting around on the edge of the box, but I guess Italy's organised defence may have contributed to that. And yet they still won.....

I hadn't realised that until tonight, they hadn't actually missed a penalty in a shoot-out since 1982 [X(]

Vasquez -> RE: European Championship (7/2/2016 11:17:40 PM)

But a well deserved german victory anyway. Jesus I died 20 times.

Without doubt, they were the better team, created more chances and better chances. It was obvious a long way from the end which team would be happy taking their chances with penalties...and that wasn't Germany, who tried to win it in normal and extra time.

But fair play to Italy given the shortage of quality in their squad, they gave Germany a game.

Franciscus -> RE: European Championship (7/3/2016 12:01:44 AM)

Yep, Germany deserved it, but they were not the domineering usual team...and many players seem to be in a bad physical shape...

Now, what shall be my bet for tomorrow ? France or Island ? [:D]

warspite1 -> RE: European Championship (7/3/2016 6:56:27 PM)

Mixed feelings for tonight. 95% of me wants Iceland to beat the French but 5% want the French to destroy Iceland about 6-0. Why? Because a French loss may give some undeserved comfort to the management and staff of that England 'Team' that performed so ineptly earlier this week.....

Orm -> RE: European Championship (7/3/2016 7:26:40 PM)

I really thought I had Wales for a 1-0 win. I was stunned when I logged on and noticed that I did just the opposite and went with a Belgian win instead. Once again I chicken out and make the 'safe' bet. [:D]

TulliusDetritus -> RE: European Championship (7/3/2016 8:23:07 PM)

WOW, more trolling activities! Many of you 'legendary trolls' bet Iceland is going to prevail tonight [:D] France winning 1:0 though.

Word by word that is 100% the reasoning I expected from you, hell, from every England fan, to be honest! [sm=00000613.gif]

EDIT: 2:0 now, you trolls! [:)]

warspite1 -> RE: European Championship (7/3/2016 8:33:11 PM)

What does [sm=00000613.gif] mean in the context of what I said and your response?

TulliusDetritus -> RE: European Championship (7/3/2016 8:56:10 PM)

It means that you're not a neutral this evening [;)]

STEF78 -> RE: European Championship (7/3/2016 10:20:31 PM)

And now Germany!

I looked at the stats, we didn't beat them in a world cup and never meet them in a european championship... We shall see.

Congratulations to Iceland, good team and very nice supporters.

Ans very happy to see Wales in half final. Thay are our cousins (I'm from Brittany!). Nice to hear our hymn in an official football competition.

warspite1 -> RE: European Championship (7/6/2016 6:12:33 PM)

With the greatest respect to my fellow forumites who hail from Britain's oldest ally, I can only say:

C'MON WALES!!!!

I don't know the drill tonight but I am guessing Wales will be in Red with Green trim and the Portuguese will be in Green with Red trim [:)]

In all seriousness though, lets hope its a great game and a battle royal between the Galactico's.

Franciscus -> RE: European Championship (7/6/2016 10:52:11 PM)

Well, WE DID IT !! [:D] [:D]

Boring first half but a great second half. Portugal's team made for sure our best game so far. Kind of surprised how clumsy Renato Sanches was tonight, but the team played well.

Now, for the final. Either with Germany or France, we go as underdogs, and that is good !

Respect for Wales, it was a great championship for them [&o]

But nevertheless congratulations for reaching the final.
Good luck against France. [;)]

Just seen the highlights - congratulations to Portugal. Looks like the best team won.

british exil -> RE: European Championship (7/8/2016 10:52:30 PM)

Just want to say thanks to all who played on kicktipp. Looks like the Germans won again.[:D] And I am NOT including myself, still supporting the three lions. Maybe,really maybe next time. (Been saying that for years)

th207 (is this German geezer, who really knows his football) with 10 points ahead and only 5 points left to gain. Was fun watching the games. Will be flying to Corsica tomorrow, so I will be on French soil, when the title will be decided.

I thought that 13 points were still in play. 5 for the final match, and 8 more for bonus points for the champion team and the top scorer.

Not that I will get any of the bonus points. [:)]

british exil -> RE: European Championship (7/8/2016 11:26:55 PM)

Orm, I had already assumed that the bonus points were already included. I won't be getting any bonus points, I think the teams didn't play as well as I had thought they might have. I just pray that I can hang on to 2nd to last.

Mat

warspite1 -> RE: European Championship (7/10/2016 10:33:49 PM)
