No, pilots are too valuable for that.

MJ42 i1 Axis Attacks 1/3
6 attacks, no great rolls but the poorest roll came on the lowest odds (best for the defenders). Three postings will show the results.

After much consternation, the axis decide to let the Allied fleet ride the waves unmolested.
So,

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #2. USSR, Ground Strike.

The USSR assigned this unescorted ground strike under the mistaken assumption that it couldn't be intercepted by axis fighters. That assumption was wrong. The Italian fighter was in range to intercept and I make the call that the axis would intercept.

The Soviet bomber gets through and manages to disorganize the SS mech corps.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #2. Western Allies Amphibious Invasions. Axis Ground Support Questions.

The US and CW are attempting amphibious invasions against two targets, Brest and St-Malo in France.

1. Brest land combat. Current odds which include offense shore bombardment are +7.6 (19:5). In ground support the allies are flying four bombers with TAC factors of 3,2, 1 and 1. These bombers are escorted by two fighters with air to air values of 6 and 5. Do the axis wish to attempt to provide defensive ground support to this attack? If so, which bombers and fighters do they wish to fly to the hex? Also, what are your air-to-air instructions?

2. St-Malo land combat. Current odds which include offense shore bombardment are +18 (18:2). In ground support the allies are flying one bomber with TAC 2 and one fighter with air-to-air 6. Do the axis wish to attempt to provide defensive ground support to this attack? If so, which bombers and fighters do they wish to fly to the hex? Also, what are your air-to-air instructions?

Fighters, in order, Bf109 {from Brest}, Macchi {Brest}, Falco 1 {St-Malo}, Bf110c {Lorrient}
Bomber, use programs order, Ju87R {55,25}, Alclone {54,26}, He115c {St-Malo}

I believe if I get at least 4 GS through it is best to decline the notional, but please verify when the option comes up. If it is my option on my losses and all axis bombers are still in queue, then take the lead bomber out. If the Ju87R has cleared also use the bombers for losses. Otherwise use the fighters as losses. Clear the Ju87R first if I have an option.

If I get a choice against your stacks, take your lead fighter out first. Once he is gone, I will take out bombers as long as I have not taken a fighter loss. After my first fighter loss, all losses are against your fighters till they are all gone.

Fighters, in order, Ariete {Rouen}, Ju88C {St-Malo}
Bombers, use computer order, Bf110c {55,24}, Bf110d {54,24}

If it is my option on my losses and all axis bombers are still in queue, then take the lead bomber out. If a bomber has cleared use the last bomber as the loss. Otherwise use the fighters as losses.

If I get a choice against your stacks, take your fighter out first.

It has taken me awhile to figure this out and a mistake is likely. If something looks silly, please stop and let me review.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #2. Western Allies. Brest. Air-to-Air Combat, part 1.

I believe (hope) I've faithfully executed your instructions in the Brest air to air combat, which hasn't gone well for the axis, to this point.

At this point I need direction from you on whether or not you wish to continue this air to air? If so, what are you instructions?

By the way, the choice on whether or not to include the notional had to be made even before adding shore bombardment. Attack odds were in your favor with the notionals so I included them. Hope that was ok.

staying at least one more round to try and get the bomber through. Please roll well for the axis now.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #2. St-Malo. Air-to-Air Combat.

Well, if it's any consolation the air to air combat over St-Malo completely goes the axis way.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #2. Western Allies. Land Combat. Ground Support.

The Western Allies manage to add 6 factors of ground support to their attack on Brest. The axis managed to add 2 factors to their defense of St-Malo.

Yes it is and yes I do, but if I didn't finish my impulse it would drive me crazy all day at work thinking about the outcome. [:)]

The allies get ashore at both locations but the Brest landings were costly.
