Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #6. USSR. Europe.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #6. USMC. Amphibious Invasion. Kwajelein.

Even with notionals included they were no notionals. The attack was automatic either way.

Why couldn't I roll a 14 on non-automatic land combats?

Looks like the poor weather of the first two years of the war is changing. At this point I appreciate the good weather, in a game year I might not.

MJ42 i7:
Germany and Italy take land actions. Japan takes a combined.
Japan moves to CP into the China Sea and a CA from Tokyo to the Arabian sea (2-box). They also fly the Zero from Ceylon to the Arabian Sea 3-box.

Japan is only initiating naval searches in one zone the Arabian Sea. Round 1 rolls of 3/2 result in both sides finding and fighting a lopsided naval air battle. I decided for you to place the abort on the damaged CW CA.

ashkpa -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/24/2017 12:37:17 AM)

Round 2 the allies find on rolls of 10/2. I think the wisest thing for you to do is avoid combat and will be doing that.

ashkpa -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/24/2017 1:00:26 AM)

MJ42 i7 Ground strikes.
Several ground strikes around the world. Only the one on Brest can be intercepted.
The three CW fighters and the US Air cobra can intercept.

One more German fighter can fly a counter interception.

rkr1958 -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/24/2017 4:10:05 AM)

The US P-39D and RAF Spitfire based in Brest will intercept and fight until the status of both axis bombers is decided. If only one axis fighter escorts the allies will target the axis fighter then the bombers. If two fighters escort they will target the bombers.

ashkpa -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/24/2017 5:52:11 AM)

The air to air results. Aborted one of my bombers with the loss of the CW fighter (pilot survived).

I missed that you have AA opportunity on the East Front Ground Strike. Would you like to use it (lowest of 6)?

rkr1958 -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/24/2017 11:12:56 AM)

No to the AA.

MJ42 i7 Ground strike results.

ashkpa -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/25/2017 12:13:17 AM)

Good Choice on the AA.

MA42 i7 Land Attacks.
One attack in the NEI.
3 attacks on the East Front - all in the south (I was able to put several stacks out of supply by getting a ZOC on an empty Kiev).
{edit addition} The Italians are attacking in Tunisia.
And one attack on Brest. The allies can do nothing about all the attacks except Brest, where you have many options with shore bombardment and ground support. I have no planes in range, so there is no need to fly any fighters. Three of the ships in the BoB are in the 2-box, so there SB is reduced by 1. In the composite image below, I show the initial odds (36:14) and the odds if you add all the shore bombardment and ground support possible. I did not fly any planes as fighters since there was no axis interception possible. The final odds would be 36:33 if you accept this.

I'll stop here for you to confirm or alter the choices I have made for you. I did save right at the shore bombardment phase so it would be easy to alter any of this.

rkr1958 -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/25/2017 12:53:50 AM)

For Brest, I'll take the 36:33 odds (i.e., add the max shore bombardment and ground support). I'll also choose the assault table.

Ok, note Brest is not a city so I'll have the choice of tables.

MA42 i7: Land Attacks
First two attacks are in this image, which are of the Brest and Tunisia attacks. The US Air Cobra was overrun in the fall of Brest.

ashkpa -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/25/2017 2:01:51 AM)

Next attack on Koniev. With Kiev unoccupied, this stack is out of supply and two of the units were disorganized which reduced the defense strength significantly. There were three planes overrun. One in Koniev's hex and two in Kiev, which I blitzed into during the advance phase.

ashkpa -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/25/2017 2:04:04 AM)

The last three attacks are shown in the image below. Overall my rolls were good this impulse, two 11's, two 12's, one 7 and a 19. Above average rolls at the right time help a lot. I do think the earlier failed aggressive Soviet counter attack came back to haunt them in this impulse.

MA42 i7 EOT roll of a 4 did not end the turn.

ashkpa -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/25/2017 2:08:53 AM)

Here is the destroyed pool at this point in the turn. It has been a good turn for the Axis. Cleared Tunisia of Allied units. Opened the Burma Road and have captured the NEI capital. Threw back into the sea the Allied invasion of France. And finally, have opened a huge hole in Russian defensive line, captured Kiev and the Ukraine resources. Another impulse and I may be able to use those resources this turn.

Edit, this does not include the multiple CPs sunk (>8 I believe), damaged ships and lost pilots.

rkr1958 -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/25/2017 2:17:52 AM)

Well, on the bright side my impulse should go faster as I have less units to command.

rkr1958 -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (1/25/2017 3:28:15 AM)

I'll worry about this disaster tomorrow. [:(]

For now it's sweet dreams where all my naval search and ground strike rolls are 1's and my land combat rolls are 20's. And where my opponent rolls are 10's and 2's, respectively. [>:] [>:] [>:] [>:] [>:]

The Italians can try to initiate combat in the Central Atlantic and the IJN in the Solomons. Will they?

No in the Central Atlantic
Yes in the Solomons. Use the NAV.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #8. IJN, The Solomons.

The USN pays a price, but at least no the steepest, for trying to reestablish supply in the Solomons.
