CapnDarwin -> 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 2:16:14 AM)

Red Storm Action at its best!

Please read the included What's New PDF to see all the fixes, enhancements and additions made for this release and the others in the 2.0.11 Beta.

This release comes in two flavors, Production and Debug. The Production version removes all the debug support and should run smoother.

You can find the files here on our Website: 2.0.11.6 Beta Update

The package was uploaded to Matrix for Steam Beta and Members Club downloads. It could take a number of days to filter through the system and go live in those venues.

Check it out and let us know what you think! The speed boost to game play from Jeff's optimization work should be very noticeable!!

If you are new to the updates, grab 11.2 first to get new maps done by William and then install 11.6.

Enjoy!! [X(]

Looking forward. Just downloaded. So what are the steps to go from virgin Steam to 11.6? Can a Steam player simply exchange EXE files? I see the maps from 11.2 are recommended as well. Can those be installed at a later time?

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 3:52:16 PM)

You can copy over the new exe. The maps can be added later or they will be updated when the full update is released in a few weeks.

JPFisher55 -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 4:39:29 PM)

Will this update affect withdrawal by units. In the past, my units would refuse to follow movement orders away from enemy units that they had sighted and were engaging.

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 5:02:57 PM)

JP, we did fix a bug that messed up some orders delay. That might help your situation. The better Withdrawal order is in the works for the Southern Storm game engine.

harry_vdk -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 5:34:37 PM)

The intel reports are very nice, thanks.

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 5:50:46 PM)

Harry, glad you like them. Have you seen an increase in the speed of play?

harry_vdk -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 6:16:23 PM)

After one command cycle its to soon to tell.

But it wood be nice if this intel report can stay open while you give the orders, a bypass for now is printing this to pdf of fineprint.

pekische -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 6:49:59 PM)

Is steam version supported?

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 7:00:44 PM)

Yes, you can use the zip file exe with Steam. The Beta update will get into Steams update system (beta) within a week (Matrix/Steam dependant).

Up and running.

Stimpak -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 7:32:00 PM)

Unfortunately I am still getting the "CPU leak" issue that slows the game down dramatically.

At this point, I'm thinking it might be Steam. Is there any way to ditch the steam version for a stand-alone download of the game?

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 7:39:37 PM)

Stimpak, we would like to better understand what you are seeing. The exe for Steam and Matrix version are the same. It may be possible that the additional Steam specific code could be the issue, but none of it is involved during game play that I know of. Perhaps we can find a way to have a Skype meeting or similar to see first hand what is going on. It might also be a good idea to check file integrity or even do a reinstall of the game. I will make Rob aware that you are still seeing a problem with 11.6.

When I start the zip file exe in my steam version then the game starts but after loading initial screen this message appears: "Steam initialisation failed. Is the Steam engine running? Please contact Metrix Games...". The steam is running of course and the previous 11.5 beta version was running without problems.

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 8:29:30 PM)

Pekische, I will check it out this evening. The exe should be valid for Steam. Very confusing. Sorry for the frustration. Delete the exe and do a file integrity check to have 11.5 reload.

pekische -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 9:18:34 PM)

Done. File 11.6 deleted, file integrity in steam checked. Game engine runs again normally in 11.5 version. Where could be problem with 11.6?

battlerbritain -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 10:02:42 PM)

My report:
It plays a lot faster and seems pretty good.

I continued a big 'Bad Neustadt' scenario that I'd been playing with 11.5 and it was playing good, right up till 2 mins game time to go when trying to allocate an Airstrike (one of lots) and a popup just said 'FPRS.exe has stopped responding', and it crashed.

Windows Application log gives a path to files for the crash, but they're not there. A Report.wer does exist and I'll try and attach it.

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 11:36:05 PM)

@Pekische, Did you download the debug or production version of 11.6? I just dropped the 11.6 production into my steam setup of the game and all ran well.

@Battlerbritain, can you post a save game from before the crash? That might help us track down what happened. Thanks.

kevinkins -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/13/2016 11:55:01 PM)

No problems with the production exe either in or out of Steam (limited test time).

Edit: Learned the *Fp9 files need to be kept along side the map *.png file. My mistake at first when adding in the new maps.

budd -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/14/2016 2:48:30 AM)

Drop the exe. in my steam game folder played a couple of cycles without issue. William sure has steadily improved the maps, they look great. during the couple of cycles i played the game did seem to play faster, the map scrolled better for me. Nice changes, thank you.

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/14/2016 2:53:22 AM)

Budd, thanks for the info! Enjoy.

pekische -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/14/2016 5:43:58 AM)

The same alert message with production version...

pekische -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/14/2016 4:42:21 PM)

I have reinstalled the game in steam engine and tried added 11.6 patch again. But the result is the same. I have to wait for the steam 11.6 update....

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/14/2016 5:39:21 PM)

Pekische, as a long shot, load 11.5. Rename the exe, then copy in the 11.6 exe and try to run it. If it fails, just delete the 11.6 and rename the 11.5 exe back to what it was.

pekische -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/14/2016 6:09:55 PM)

Capn Darwin, I have done it exactly by this way... game doesnt run unfortunately... is 11.6 planed as steam open beta update also?

CapnDarwin -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/14/2016 6:35:01 PM)

It is. My hope is it works for you. I'm not sure why this is causing an error for you.

Email sent to JimS with game save (~4Mb) and Report.txt attached.

I'll try playing and saving regularly and see if I can get a more reproducible crash that doesn't need 2hrs+ of playing first before it goes bang.

cbelva -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/15/2016 1:49:21 PM)

To battlerbritain,

Can you give me some more info on what happened. I have the saved game file you sent to Capn D loaded. It is at 3 hours 35 minutes elapsed time with 2 hours 25 minutes remaining. It sounds like the game was almost over when it crashed it from your earlier post (2 minutes of game time remaining). Is my understanding correct?

Do you have the same game file from the turn where you were trying to issue the air strike that caused the crash, or the game turn just before that turn? That would help speed things up on my end in dx the problem.

Also, which aircraft unit were you giving orders to when the game crashed?

When it crashed, did it crash to desktop, quite responding, or did you get the auto bug report?

Any other info you can think may be helpful too. Thanks

battlerbritain -> RE: 2.0.11.6 Open Beta Released!!! (7/15/2016 3:37:40 PM)

Hi,

Yes, the game was almost over when it crashed to desktop.

The FPRS window instantly disappeared, it gave a little popup and progress bar that was there for about 2 seconds then disappeared. It wasn't the standard auto bug report with options of what you want to do with it. The popup just had a title of "FPRS.exe" and a progress bar.

It happened so fast all I had a chance to do was say "Nooooo!".

I hadn't been manually saving either and Windows indicated that in the Windows Application log that it had saved a dmp file, but when I looked nothing was there, except the Report.wer.

Checking through the Windows logs it appears that Windows was applying Windows updates at that time, without my instruction to do so even though I have Windows updates set to 'Prompt before download and apply' set.

What I think is happening is that the Airstrike is calling up some resource and the FPRS.exe can't get it (immediately) and it's going belly up.

I was trying to set one of the US F-4E airstrikes (there's about 5 of them all the same).

My machine is a quad-core with 4GB RAM and a 1Gb graphics card running Win8.1 . No other apps were running at the time.

I'm replaying the same game save and saving each turn and if it goes pop again I'll have something saved a bit closer to the bug (hopefully). I sent the game save I had that was closest: sorry it wasn't any closer, but the game was going fast so I didn't anticipate any problems.
