Twigster -> RE: The Char Dilba Authority (9/21/2016 12:57:50 AM)

A little research will demonstrate that the Core have lost a few colonies. They are at war only with the Char Dilba and the Pindare Minor Territoy- best guess is that they have lost colonies to the Char Dilba.

STRATCOM theorizes that the Phaser- and Tachyon Devastator-armed Naxx ships outgun the Rail Gun-armed Core ships unless vastly outnumbered.

This shouldn't be, but if it is I'll be intrigued. The numbers do not add up with the devastators weaker range and damage. The end game planet busting railgun is a beast. Bypassing shields should make ships retreat, unless the repairs keep up.

Question for you: Does a rail gun with bombard capability partially bypass a planets shielding like it does to ships?

While I'm neither STRATCOM nor Twigster, as far as I can tell, bombardment-capable railguns cannot bypass planetary shields. To test this, I set up a test game with max-tech Ackdarians and created a size-1800 design with 70 Massive Railguns, spawned a few in near an independent colony, added a Planetary Shield Generator to the colony, and ordered my ships to attack. The attack orders cleared almost as soon as I issued them and the ships never bothered firing on the colony. Ships with different bombardment weapons exhibit the same behavior.

Retreat1970 -> RE: The Char Dilba Authority (9/21/2016 8:27:35 PM)

Thanks Aeson.

Would have made an interesting game if planetary shields could have been vulnerable by a weapon.

Twigster -> RE: The Char Dilba Authority (9/21/2016 8:42:12 PM)

Aeson is of course correct in answering "no" to your question Retreat. I have never seen that occur. As far as Tachyon Devastators/Phasers vs. Railguns on ships, all I can say is that for some yet to be determined reason the Naxx ships seem to be besting the Core ships.

Twigster -> RE: The Char Dilba Authority (9/21/2016 9:12:33 PM)

Something else I'd like to comment on: the "1 AI superpower" theory. I have gone back and forth on this for many months... however, my current game has blown the theory out of the water for me.

I agree.

Twigster -> The Core Axis (9/22/2016 10:41:55 PM)

Having obtained the Core's operational map, here are some scenes that may shed some light on what is happening. Here we see an example of a defended Core planet, with large space port and defense base.

Twigster -> RE: The Core Axis (9/22/2016 10:43:52 PM)

Looking deeper into Core-controlled space, we begin to find more Core battleships.

Twigster -> RE: The Core Axis (9/22/2016 10:45:27 PM)

An example of a Core world garrison- notice the two orbiting defense bases.

Twigster -> RE: The Core Axis (9/22/2016 10:46:18 PM)

Another example- this time there are four defense bases orbiting.

A shot of a particularly well-defended Core world.

Twigster -> RE: The Core Axis (9/22/2016 10:49:42 PM)

An operational view demonstrating the locations of Core fleets and individual ships. Interestingly, the Core at this point in history do not seem to favor very large fleets, nor fleets with many battleships. Hmm...

Here is Supernova FS19, recent site of a Char Dilba- Core clash that the Core seems to have won, at least for now...

Twigster -> RE: The Core Axis (9/22/2016 10:53:38 PM)

Riddle me this: why would the Core fight over and then place a mining station in a supernova remnant?

Another well-defended Core world, and more battleships! Found 'em.

Twigster -> RE: The Core Axis (9/22/2016 11:07:18 PM)

Because the Core declared war on the Ikkuro just last month (Feb.2431), here is the Ikkuro's diplo situation.

Twigster -> RE: The Core Axis (9/22/2016 11:09:04 PM)

Locations of more Core ships; the Core really do not like the Pindare Minor Territory right now.

Twigster -> RE: The Core Axis (9/22/2016 11:12:25 PM)

A Core heavy cruiser engaging a Pindare defense base. As the Pindare are Naxxilian (and therefore using Naxx technology), this is posted to show the Core ship with full shields but having obviously taken some damage at some point earlier. Unfortunately there is no way to determine if the defense base is taking damage behind the shields.
