There is no reference to what game they are talking about, of what is promised here exactly, I have no clue who Treb Courie is and who represents Matrix Games ltd. in this context.

Don't feel too hyped.

+1

I've seen time and time again on this forum that the game engine is already pushed to its limits as is, I think its wishful thinking at best. Sorry :/

Post the link to it, I have to see it with my own eyes.

JocMeister -> RE: Graphical update in the works? (7/30/2016 4:43:35 PM)

Damn them. Now I have my hopes up despite knowing IŽll be disappointed.

My bet is a AE for Ipad. Or Panzer Corps in the Pacific....

SheperdN7 -> RE: Graphical update in the works? (7/30/2016 4:49:22 PM)

I doubt that AE would be for Ipad, too much planning and turn time for a platform that is mostly a "play and go" system. My bet is a regular official update, maybe some minor changes to the UI, although I think that would be quite disappointing because personally I think the UI is great.

SheperdN7 -> RE: Graphical update in the works? (7/30/2016 4:51:16 PM)

MAYBE its a announcement to the AE community that more gorn will be joining us soon[:D]

Same here, I hope it's optional and not integral part of any patch.

Or they just dumb everything down to point and click. Call it AE for IPAD and hope to make some extra bucks on the reputation?

I have no clue, maybe tracker for Ipad?

That's what Homer said to Diogenes.

Homer Simpson doesn't even know Diogenes ......

Omicron Kappa, that's what Achilles said to Priam. Did you see this actor's name in Troy? The guy who played Nestor? Is that his stage name or his real name?

The UI is a early '90s design that was only acceptable when the transition from UV to WitP was completed. It was already out of date by 2 GUI generations when AE was released. It lacks all features that are viewed as minimum standard for modern UIs, independent of whether you think about business of gaming software. Fragmented information and lack of basic multi-window or drag/drop features is the least of its problems.

Michael did a sensational job of improving it within the limits the code made possible, but it still is one of the worst parts of AE.

It would be one of the first things I would radically redesign.

That said, I still don't believe there is anything genuine about a major AE update until I see a big fat unprovoked announcement on the matrixgames homepage. There were so many false alarms in the past, and what an anonymus matrix representant dubs 'pipeline' can be very long, broken, or irrelevant.

geofflambert -> RE: Graphical update in the works? (7/30/2016 7:18:50 PM)

By the way, speaking of Priam, "Peter O'Toole" is the name of a character from the gay version of "Diamonds are Forever".

Even simple functionality like "select all" or "select all of this type" would be amazing and save thousands of clicks over the course of a game.

Precisely and they could have put all production management in industry GUI but one still have to go to the info screen to have some essential information.

"Friendly AI"?
I don't need a Friendly opponent. I want a ruthless, devious, no-good, rotten scoundrel who would stop at nothing to stick a blade in my backside.[sm=comp16.gif]

SheperdN7 -> RE: Graphical update in the works? (8/1/2016 12:25:17 AM)

I think the ai is already too friendly[:D] never attacks if you're Japan, and never protects its carriers if you're the allies. We need a mean ai[:@]

scout1 -> RE: Graphical update in the works? (8/1/2016 12:35:19 AM)

nico71 -> RE: Graphical update in the works? (8/1/2016 11:32:48 AM)

A "remastered" edition with a new front end is definitely in order (DOS is dead!). No need to redo the whole game from scratch. Replace the large bitmaps with vector gfx, so it's zoomable and smooth with no pixelation. And needs much less memory.

This gave me a good laugh. Best post on this forum for a while!

Rafid -> RE: Graphical update in the works? (8/1/2016 12:41:35 PM)

I am with LoBaron on this one: The UI is the most outdated part in the game and desperatly in need of an upgrade.

None of the semi-modern features like multi window handling, resizable, customizable or dragable windows, any scaling feature (resolution, font size, zooming,..) are implemented and most of these had their breakthrough with Windows 95. Sensible support of drag and drop would simplify a lot and good customizable selection filters in many of the tables would be incredible.

The fragmentation of information and the heavy tie in of the UI with the "functional code" are perhaps the whorst from a programming viewpoint (which makes what michaelm achieved all the more sensational). I believe that many compatibility issues we have seen as well as the extrem CPU load (WITPAE uses one core totally under all circumstances which burns uneeded amounts of power and can cause thermal headaches in laptops) are most likely also caused by the UI.

Having said all that, I would be very supprised if Matrix really did anything major on the UI. (Uninformed guessing:) A true overhaul would require untangling of the UI and the rest engine, which is way too much work for a programm which has already seen some years and has sell figures not exactly measured in millions.

I just posted a solution to the thermal headaches in the tech section of the forums. Try it out, it works pretty well.

SheperdN7 -> RE: Graphical update in the works? (8/2/2016 12:42:30 AM)

Hey all I'm saying is if you had to criticize something in this game "bad UI" would not be the first thing that I would think of.
