Asahikawa and Muroran are likely going to be covered by Sapporo's CAP, but Hakodate and Kushiro have a bit of industry too and might not be CAP'd. Can your aircraft reach them? Taking out the shipyard at Hakodate would be a PITA for him. I think the next nearest is Yokosuka.

The B-29's can reach most of Japan. Bringing in B-24's. Trying to get more airfields up. The weather is not cooperating as it has been a blizzard at Shikuka the last 3 or 4 days.

I appreciate CanoeRebels AAR and the contributors to it as we are facing similar issues with strategic bombing late in a game.

My method is more direct attack but I do not think this game can be won by simply pursuing a ground war. I am stopped at Haiphong and Hanoi for a few more days until he retires but he will have pretty good defensive ground moving forward from there and 3000+ AV with which to defend it.

Going to swing the majority of the air force and other combat assets to the right in a counter clockwise measure planned around the 1st of the year when all the carrier aircraft assignments go topsy turvy. Hopefully I can swing all the needed upgrades and get my carriers ready for an assist on an amphibious landing on Hokkaido in the spring.

Nonsense. Will have no impact.

The problem coming from this area, is the weather is generally poor over the area of operations....send some deep strikes to stretch his defenses some.

Get those fast no gun B29s flying at night.

There has beeen a blizzard at Shikuka the last 7 days. Do you know a way to get your aircraft to fly in this weather? My planes dont seem to want to take off.

Try putting chains on their wheels, and give the pilots a snow brush![;)]

Ask your Russian friends they have a wonderful commander General Winter.

January 1945

MrKane continues to maintain about 20,000 VP lead. Every time something good happens for me something good happens for him.

The air war has been pretty even in numbers.

Haiphong just went to a lvl 9 airfield. MrKane has about 3000 AV trapped in the CRB/Saigon pocket.

Working on carrier refits before sending them up here to assist in a breakout.

Toyohara is proving difficult. I am working him down slowly but 2 huge combat engineer units do not guarantee a drop in fort levels.

MrKane holds one base on Java, Palembang and Singapore currently. I do not have significant plans to attack Palembang right now.

Engineers need lots of covering fire from Infantry and arty. Bumping up those a little could pay big dividends.

I suspect he is frantically pulling out troops via ship and plane.

Congrats on getting to 1945![&o]

He doesnt seem to be doing that. If anything I think he is sending supply in to be a PITA. He may be cherry picking the good units to remove though.

Mike McCreery -> RE: Kane and Unable ;] (8/12/2017 1:51:04 AM)

Smashed, pushed aside and ignored for years, 10 support companies of the Chinese 259th Brigade lived off the land and the local populace, evading Japanese patrols. How they survived is a miracle (I didnt notice them for a long time).

In January of 1945 they spot unfamiliar aircraft in the sky... Diving for the deck they are suddenly surprised to see that supplies, not bombs are dropping through the air.

MrKane has notified me that for a few weeks he will be having family around and be playing less.

This will give me time to plan Russia which will commence in 200+ turns. Cause I am a nerd like that.

I have played Russia as an attacker before but when I played NJP he attacked me in Russia in 1943. So the scenario was completely different.

Any strategic suggestions?

With a very capable player like Mr Kane (perhaps the best??) PDU On is a nightmare in the air for the Allies. You have done a wonderful job just to keep the air war reasonably balanced.

obvert -> RE: Kane and Unable ;] (8/12/2017 8:27:05 AM)

This game is another epic struggle Well done and keep on it. The strat bombing will have an effect. Go for the manpower in Tokyo and Osaka at night first thing and wear down his ability to produce supply. It takes a while, but that is the key, speaking from a perspective of having had it happen to me.

Looking forward to the activation of the Russian hordes.

I have been getting a handle on the organization and content of the Russians. After reinforcements arrive in June 1945 they have an infantry plus armor strength that exceeds 38,800 AV. Now that is enough for some shock and awe!!!

PaxMondo -> RE: Kane and Unable ;] (8/14/2017 1:54:56 AM)

Oh yes, the SOV activation contains a lot of "Shock and Awe" ....

Mike McCreery -> RE: Kane and Unable ;] (8/31/2017 8:26:32 PM)

January 1945

Slow going east of Haiphong/Hanoi. Had to sit quiet for a few weeks but almost all ship upgrades are current including CVE's.

Today's night raids going into tokyo yield quite a few fighters as a bonus. I cant bomb below 10,000 feet but it will be better in the longrun.

Have hit a few major bases in the home islands. Best I can score is 10k-20k fires. Yield is good on big bases though.

Mike McCreery -> RE: Kane and Unable ;] (8/31/2017 8:40:29 PM)

Here is the condition of the major bases on the home islands. Just hit Tokyo yesterday so fires have a few days to go yet. Hopefully will take out some more HI/LI.

Weather has been crappy at Shikuka limiting bombing runs. Hoping that March brings much better weather for a while.

Sakhalin I think.

You should get some good recon on his advanced night fighters and target them. Make everything easier going forward...Don't let him get Randy and nail any Frances S, Myrt facilities.

Mike McCreery -> RE: Kane and Unable ;] (9/13/2017 11:14:01 AM)

I have not been posting much as to not give away my plans. Probably a month and a half in real time and 3 months in game time I have been planning the assault on Hong Kong. To make this more complicated only 1 of my marine divisions were complete and they were scattered from India to Alaska.

I carefully re-assembled all divisions and with MrKane looking where I wanted him to and not where I didnt I sailed up the east coast of Burma directly to Hong Kong. I lit up Formosa with search aircraft and also started operations on Manila to make him suspect an invasion in these locations.

To be honest, I really needed the good shipyard and it seemed a better fight here rather than Singapore.

Here is the situation after the first day of unload. It appears I caught MrKane completely off guard.

The first attack was successful and because MrKane was not surrounded he retreated out of Hong Kong. How fortuitous.
