The 14th Panzer Corps, 1st Panzer Group, was railed down to support the efforts of the Romanians who will proceed towards the Dnestr River and have an objective to take Odessa. AGS Rail Repair unit was also railed down to the border.

General Plan Ost - Eastern Plan of Occupation

An integral part of Operation Barbarossa is the effective colonization of occupied lands into the Third Reich. The eastern plan was developed to coordinate these Lebensraum efforts and the plan is the responsibility of the Reichssicherheitshaupfamt, Reich Main Security Office. This office is under the supervision of Heinrich Himmler. They have recruited members for the Einsatzgruppen, a security force to prevent partisans and enforce the assimilation into the Reich.

We are getting a warm welcome in the Baltic region from many of the local people. They see us as liberators from the Soviets who occupied their country in 1940.

OKW Intel Report - Week of June 22 - 28, 1941

North Africa Status:

The British counterattack, Operation Battleaxe, has stalled. The latest attempt to rescue the 7th Australian Division trapped inside Tobruk has failed. General Rommel has managed another minor miracle. The Afrika Corps and our Italian allies have beaten back the British again. Rommel set up a defensive perimeter at Halfaya pass, near the Egyptian border, using mines and anti-tank positions to channel their tanks into a killing zone. Initial casualty reports indicate the British lost about 100 tanks while Rommel lost 12. Personnel losses were approximately 1,000 on each side. I wonder how many miracles Rommel still might have up his sleeves. The future fate of the Afrika Corps may depend upon one of those miracles.

Atlantic Operations:

Our supply and prison ship, Alstertor, was captured and sunk by the British on June 23. There were over two hundred British, Chinese, Malaysian and Indian prisoners of war rescued from that ship.

OHW Intel Summary Week of June 29 - July 5

Further details are arriving regarding our victory at Halfaya Pass. It appears our miracle victory was due to a large extend on one person they are calling the Pastor of Halfaya Pass. Obersletenent Wilhem Bach was a Lutherian Pastor before the war and he was personally responsible for our defenses at the pass. He effectively used our 8.8 Flak guns and tank mines to channel and destroy the British tanks. British prisoners taken in the battle call it "Hellfire Pass" due to the murderous fire the Pastor brought down on the enemy. Perhaps Rommel can continue his victory streak in North Africa so long as he has men like the Pastor who can provide him with the miracles he will need in the future.

[image]http://i.imgur.com/0J6UnQO.png[/image]

But all the news is not good. The British continue their advance into Vichy Syria and Lebanon. Their invasion of these neutal Vichy colonies was prompted by our use of their airfields and rail system to support the failed Arab rebellion in Iraq against the British this past May. They have recently captured Damascus but the Vichy French forces continue to resist the British. The latest skirmish was on July 1st when a Vichy light cavalry unit surrendered to the British at Palmara. Our Luftwaffe has supported them by attacking British shipping over the coast of Syria. These attacks resulted in damaging two destroyers. The French intend to made their final stand to stop the British advance on Beruit at the Demour River which is about 30 KM south of the city.

[image]http://i.imgur.com/AqCAgd4.png[/image]

Our Baltic Sea operation to blockade the Soviet Navy continues to have successful results. This week our sea mines sunk a minesweeper, submarine, transport and a cargo ship. Most of the Soviet Northern fleet has evacuated to Tallin.

KV-1 and T-34 Battle Surprise

The Soviets launched a major counterattack against our lead panzer elements of Army Group North using a new heavy tank called the Kilment Voroshilov, KV-1. Named after their defense commissar and politican, the frontal and side armor on this tank is so thick that our anti-tank weapons are ineffective. The only effective weapon against the armor on this beast is our 8.8 Flak gun. Otherwise, we have to get behind the tank to kill it. The Soviets have another tank that is giving our boys a hard time. It is the T-34 and the gun on this tank is better than our best tank, mark IV. These new tanks came as a shock to our panzer forces and will require new tactics to counter it. Thus until we can get better anti-tank weapons and tanks to counter this new threat, Cleaver Hans has directed a 8.8 Flak gun SU be assigned to each Corps to cope with these tanks. I am beginning to wonder about the Fuhrer's comment that once we break open the door the whole rotten structure will collapse. How can a rotten system have better tanks than we do?

[image]http://i.imgur.com/1BUvMxL.png[/image][image]http://i.imgur.com/6DKBFby.png[/image]

The KV-2 variant of this tank is a heavy artillery tank with an 152mm howitzer as its main gun.

[image]http://i.imgur.com/SOf2FhT.png[/image]

Our 1st Panzer Group Commander, General Ewald Von Kleist calls the T-34 "the finest tank in the world".

Cleaver Hans has directed General Guderian to conduct a study of these new tanks to see what features we can adapt for our tanks.

OKW Weekly Intel Summary Turn 3 July 6- 12, 1941

Nothing but bad news this week.

First, the remaining Vichy forces in Syria/Lebanon have surrendered. They could not stop the British at the Demour River. The battle lasted 3 days, July 6-9, but the outcome was never in doubt. The British bombed Beruit and the French claimed they shot down 5 aircraft. The French General, Henri Dentz, called for an armistice while the battle of Demour was still in progress. The British lost about 5 thousand casualties and 27 aircraft. The French lost about 6 thousand, 197 aircraft and another 37 thousand taken as prisoners. Worst, these Vichy prisoners were given an opportunity to join the Free French and about 6 thousand did join them. Now General Charles DeGaulle has more soldiers to continue his fight against us. The British will also control the coastline of the Eastern Mediterranean from Egypt all the way up to Turkey.

[image]http://i.imgur.com/r7Ys0AM.png[/image][image]http://i.imgur.com/ZJXZIaq.png[/image]

Second, we are just hearing the remaining Italians in East Africa, Ethopia, continue to lose battle after battle to the British. Their retreat from Addis Ababa is turning into a disaster. Another 15 thousand surrendered on June 21st when General Gazzera abandoned Jimma. Then, General Gazzera and another 7 thousand Italians were cut off by Free Belgium forces on July 3rd and surrendered on July 6th. How many of the original Italian force of over 370,000 continue fighting in Southern Ethopia remains a mystery as radio communication with them is spotty at best.

[image]http://i.imgur.com/L4lBUS6.png[/image][image]http://i.imgur.com/CFQWXhA.png[/image]

Lastly, during this week the Italian tanker, Stambo, was torpedoed in the Mediterranean while carrying precious fuel for the Africa Corps. The Italian cargo ship, Caldea, was also sunk just ten nautical miles from the port of Benghazi. Again, the Africa Corps will be missing the critical supplies lost on this ship.

Finland Joins the Fight!

[image]http://i.imgur.com/XlfSG8D.jpg[/image]

Our Foreign Minister, Joachim vonRibbentrap, has been working secret agreements with both Sweden and Finland. The Swedish agreement allowed us to rail our 163 Division with all of its equipment, ammunition and supplies from Norway through Sweden to Finland. This division will help the Finnish Army isolate Lenningrad and take the vital port of Murmansk from the Soviets.

Finland has agreed to join us in a limited role in our struggle with the Soviet Union. The Finns want to regain the territory they just lost to Russia during their Winter War of 1939-1940. This includes the Karelian and Hanko Peninsulas as well as large swaths of land bordering Lake Ladoga. They will not support us beyond this goal and have restricted where and when their units can be engaged.

[image]http://i.imgur.com/MEYkSKl.png[/image]

Cleaver Hans has assigned General Model to I Corps. He will improve their morale, initiative and Infantry skills as they push forward to take Leningrad. This is part of his grand plan to develop a strong Infantry Army to support 4th Panzer Group in their assault of the city.
