You probably need to go into the 'save' directory and delete the 'steel.prf' file. After that, reinstall. That'll probably fix it. Steel.prf needs to be deleted before any installs.

go to preferences and toggle "victory frontage On/Off" button. mosh

I thought victory frontages were the thing that gave you a choice between four or five victory clusters.

Yes Charles. The button for the Victory hexes is "Objective flagas on/off". Victory frontage alternate between three/five victory clusters. Thanks and Saludos.

Wait a minute! Is it really between 3-5 victory clusters and not 4-5? That would explain a lot. I recall there were a number of people who hadn't used the increased victory cluster total and were complaining about the AI doing the same thing all the time. If the difference is as big as 3-5, then that would explain much more deeply why the AI can be so mind-numbingly boring and supposedly does the same thing all the time since it's only using "3" objectives. If what I'm saying is irrefutable, I would suggest trashing the option to allow three victory clusters (make it five all the time), as it seems to take away from the purpose of the product, when it deceives people, unwittingly, into thinking the AI is really that robotic throughout the span of the random portions of the product. How many people have quit playing this game, never to return, because they played three clusters and the AI was therefore in bore mode? Has anyone who has played with three clusters and found it boring, later played with five clusters and found it considerably more unpredictable? I know what I hear from people who play that way, either don't play it enough with different types of situations, to see the variety that may be in playing with three clusters, or three clusters just plays very boring for the AI. After playing five clusters for the life of the product, though it sounded tough at first to go to five clusters, I wouldn't be able to stomach playing three clusters for the sake of experimentation.

skukko -> (5/11/2001 3:20:00 AM)

Charles_22: Yeah, typo.. Three clusters is perhaps merely to human against human ? Nevertheless if using just three clusters VO's tend to be points per tunr value, and that is thing that would get me out of the game if I didn't know better. How is game going mikimoto? mosh

Hi Mosh. I'm becoming familiar with the new version. It is great, dont you think? :D That Gremlin is absolutely drunken now. But I adore it... ;) Thanks and Saludos. :rolleyes:

Mikimoto -> (5/11/2001 3:37:00 AM)

Hello Charles22. I remember of you, now. The three victory clusters is Steel Panthers series standard victory frontage. If you have played sp1,sp2 or sp3 you know how it works... Well, actually I switch the victory frontage in generated campaigns, seeking some variety in the deployment and behavior of the AI. But I have not recorded exactly what differences the AI performs in each case. I will try in generated battles, soon. Thanks and Saludos. :)

Charles2222 -> (5/11/2001 4:12:00 AM)

Mikimoto: Well thank you. How is it that you knew that you'd have more variety if you switched to more VOs? I had no idea, I only knew it had to make things generally more difficult. So that's you, somebody else, and myself who think the AI may have no variety when playing 3 VOs. I hadn't thought that those hexes may be almost always timed, but on the other hand we have people still complaining about the AI doing the exact same thing every single game. I don't think that complaint should continue by virtue of it's allowance in the game, though I'm thinking strictly in terms of playing the AI, and not head-to-head, since the complaint is made against the AI, when it need not be.

Mikimoto -> (5/11/2001 5:02:00 AM)

Hello Charles22. Well, IIRC when the settings are three VC (victory clusters, not vietcong :D ) the AI tends to attack and advance along only one route, en masse. If you play with five VC it tends to spread more his troops. Well, I have tested defending with gerries vs ruskies, with 5 VCs, and 1500 points of core force. If I save the deployment I can see that the AI changes the deployment too. One time it deployed all of his forces in the northern half of the map. Second, it deployed in the center (ocuppying two thirds of the map, free flanks). And third, it deployed all allong the map. The first turns were variables in the AI advancing towards my troops. Only tried this one experimentation, sorry. Thanks and Saludos.
