Perhaps it is in the manual or somewhere here on th eforum, but my search didn't reveal the info.

My question is this. There are a lot of different combinations of search and target radars around. Obviously one is better then another. For example the SMART-L with APAR combo can target at one time 16 targets. The AEGIS system can target 1 airplane per target illuminator. An Arleigh Burke destroyer has three of these targetilluminators (SPG-62), so you would think the AEGIS system is less capable. (On the other hand, illuminating of the target isn't required for the full flight of the missile. Only for the last part.)

So, what is better and is it modelled in the game?

Yes, the amount of target illuminators is modeled in the game (although facing arcs are ignored at ranges over 5nm) and you can increase your hit chance by attacking a target from multiple angles in order to saturate the number of target emitters needed for terminal guidance. That is why newer systems like the SMART-L (a much newer scanned array radar) have more emitter capacity then older systems like AEGIS (which uses an older mechanically steered illuminator) in order to mitigate this saturation effect. So if you only look at emitter numbers, then yes, an AEGIS ship is more susceptible to saturation attacks then an SMART-L equipped system. However how much more susceptible? Only people with access to classified weapons system data will know...

Note the "1950's technology" and so on labels for sensors. That has a significant impact detection and performance. I know it was discussed in other threads. I don't remember the specifics.

Yes differences are most definitely modeled in the game. If its the case we don't have enough data we'll add a generic radar that scaled based on generations (decades).

Unfortunately comparisons are not a simple question to answer but can be seen by just running the game.

You can assume that in many cases the newer stuff is better however keep in mind for navigation type radars and I band is an I band etc.
