Sniper31 -> [RESOLVED] 4k/UHD UI problems (4/21/2017 9:23:03 AM)

I appreciate the work on the 4k/UHD UI. However, I am having display problems still. The text is all readable, but all of the unit icons are incredibly small (I run on a laptop with a 1070 GTX GPU and a 4K UHD 17.3" IPS display), so small that I cannot read any of the text in the data blocks and can barely make out what each icon is. Also, the black info bar at the top of the map window is half overlaying the menu bar info, rendering the game speed area unreadable. My screen resolution is at 3840x2160 (native) and my DPI is set at 200%. I have tried several other DPI's to no avail. I also delete the Command.ini each time, and run the preferextmanifest file each time I try a different DPI. I am running the 936.4 build.

Any suggestions? CMANO is unplayable in it's current state for me.

I have also tried the work around method as suggested by Sunburn, but it does not work any better (or worse) than the 936.4 build. Even when running in 1920x1080 resolution, I get the black info bar issue and also the unit icons are incredibly small.

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/22/2017 8:34:40 AM)

Anyone have any further ideas or suggestions on this? I really just want to play Command and enjoy it as it's such a great game and warfare simulation. It is simply unplayable for me right now.

Dimitris -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/22/2017 4:54:03 PM)

Hi,

Can you post a few screenshots demonstrating your issues? If we know exactly where the pain points are, we can try to resolve them individually. Thanks!

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/22/2017 6:58:56 PM)

Okay, I have two good screenshots that illustrate my issues very well, but having problems uploading them. I have a Photobucket account that I usually upload pictures too that I upload to the 'net, but their site is down right now. Any other suggestions on uploading the screenshots I have taken for you all to look at?

Dimitris -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/22/2017 7:00:30 PM)

imgur ?

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/22/2017 7:42:05 PM)

Okay, I have images uploaded to Imgur (good suggestion btw, I had forgotten about them) but now when I try to post them I get the forum board message saying I cannot post links, emails or phone numbers seven days from my tenth post.

Suggestions?

mavfin -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/22/2017 8:59:43 PM)

Can you PM them to Sunburn?

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/22/2017 9:10:09 PM)

I can try that...

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/22/2017 9:14:27 PM)

Okay Sunburn, PM sent with two screenshots included.

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/26/2017 3:31:31 AM)

I am still having the same 4k display problems, and I still cannot post my screenshots to showcase the problems I am seeing on this forum for another 7 days (not sure I understand the reason behind that policy). I also tried to PM the screenshots, two of them, to Sunburn a few days ago, but I do not know if they went through, as I have heard nothing in reply. I realize you all are busy folks, but maybe some kind of virtual nod that you guys are aware of my problem? I have the same display issues on both a gaming laptop 4k UHD display, running on a GTX 1070 GPU and ALSO on a gaming desktop with an LG 4K UHD display running a GTX 1080 GPU. As I have purchased a copy of Command direct from the Matrix website way back when this game was in it's early days, and also purchased a Steam version over a year ago, I have tried BOTH versions and I have the same display issues in both, on both computers and displays. Of course I have tried several reinstalls of Command as well. Really at a loss here guys.....

Dimitris -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/26/2017 4:32:47 AM)

Hi,

I got your PM and will look into it. Yes, we are ridiculously busy and haven't forgotten you. Thanks!

Spammers. We don't like this measure either but it's out of our hands (Matrix owns the forum).

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/26/2017 5:13:30 AM)

Affirmative Sunburn, on both of your posts above. Thank you on all fronts. I will keep standing...

Dimitris -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/26/2017 5:29:54 AM)

Right, the screenshots are definitely not the desired "end state". Something is going wrong.

Can you double-check a couple of things:

* Can you check the there is a file called "Command.exe.manifest" residing in your root CMANO folder.

* Assuming you are running Windows 10, can you ensure that the latest big update (the so-called "Creators Update") has been applied.
(Here's instructions on how to get it if it hasn't already been provided through the Windows Update mechanism: http://www.windowscentral.com/how-get-windows-10-creators-update . After installing, your OS version should be "1703")

Please let us know how it goes after checking these.

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/26/2017 6:41:10 AM)

I do in fact have the Command.exe.manifest file in my CMANO folder.

And yes, I am running Windows 10 (my apologies for not saying that up front). As to the new Windows 10 Creators Update, it is NOT yet installed on either of my systems yet. So, doing that now and then I will let you all now if that worked...fingers crossed :)

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/26/2017 7:50:19 AM)

UPDATE...so I just finished installing the Windows 10 Creators Update on both my laptop and my desktop. No joy I am afraid. That did not change or affect the display issues I have been experiencing. I even tried deleting my Command.ini file after the Creators update installed. I was hopeful that would fix it, but no luck.

Dimitris -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/26/2017 8:38:20 AM)

I'm out of ideas. If anyone reading this thread has any suggestions, by all means go ahead.

Posting the screenshots here as reference for the problem:

Thank you for your efforts Sunburn, I do appreciate them.

And yes, if anyone else has any ideas, I am open for suggestions [:)]

Why, thank you VPaulus, I really do appreciate that :)

TitaniumTrout -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/26/2017 11:16:19 AM)

If you right click on the shortcut you can disable the UI scaling performed by the system or the application. Maybe try a different combination with this?

Edit : Found this as well, Solidworks had a similar issue in the past.

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/27/2017 12:12:52 AM)

I had messed around with the custom display scaling in the past weeks trying to solve my display issues, but maybe I did not try or adjust it enough. I will try that again TitaniumTrout and see if anything changes.

I will report back...

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/27/2017 1:20:54 AM)

Okay, GOOD news! First, I tried adjusting the custom scaling, which did not help. With the Windows Creator Update installed, the custom display scaling does not work or look the same as it did before the Creators update. Now, the custom scaling is global only. You cannot adjust individual settings that I can find.

However, the good news. I then tried TitaniumTrout's other suggestion, that being overriding the dpi scaling behavior in the Command.exe properties. I tried both the Application setting and also the System (Enhanced) setting, and neither worked. The System (Enhanced) setting actually made my display issues worse. BUT, the System setting, in the Override dpi Behavior settings DID work and solved my CMANO display issues! Yes! GREAT suggestion TitaniumTrout. I have even tried changing my display scaling (non-custom) and rebooted my system, and everything still works. I think we have a solution to this problem! Now, I still need to test this potential fix on my gaming desktop, as I have only tested this on my gaming laptop so far. I will report back with results on that system and test...

Sniper31 -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/27/2017 1:48:50 AM)

Okay folks, and the verdict is.....

SUCCESS!! The above potential fix worked on BOTH my 4k/UHD EVGA gaming laptop display AND also it worked on my LG 28" 4k/UHD display for my gaming desktop. I am SO happy now. Thank you Sunburn for all of your efforts troubleshooting this weird issue and mucho thank you to TitaniumTrout for coming up with the actual solution. Let's mark this one down as SOLVED!

Dimitris -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (4/27/2017 5:24:45 AM)

Really glad this worked out.

All hail TitaniumTrout!

c3k -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (5/6/2017 4:07:13 PM)

Sniper31,

I have the same problem. Reading TitaniumTrout's post, I'm not sure exactly what you did. Could you describe what you changed to fix your display issue?

Thanks,
Ken

Edited to add: I'm running the CMANO Steam version. My Command shortcut is not a "normal" shortcut. If I go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/Steam Apps/Common/Command Modern Air Naval Operations, then I can access the "Command.exe" file.
Right-clicking that allows me to open up the "Properties" dialogue. Is that where I should start?

jadei -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (5/17/2017 12:49:30 AM)

I have the resolution problem as shown in the screenshots by Sunburn above 4/26/17. I am running CMANO on a Surface Pro 4 and tried the TitaniumTrout settings with no luck. I have the Win10 creator's update so maybe that is the culprit? Anyway, it's not critical since I play CMANO on my regular desktop fine at 1920x1080. Surface Pro 4 resolution is 2736x1824 and is unplayable with that tiny font.

Hi,

Can you confirm that:

1) You have upgraded to v1.12
2) You have run the "PreferExternalManifest.reg" file in the \PreRequisites folder?

Thanks.

jadei -> RE: 4k/UHD UI problems (5/17/2017 9:28:26 PM)

No dice. I have a partial screenshot but it's not letting me link it. Weird since I've been registered in forum three years. imgur_com/TFIPRlP

Thanks for your help.
