Let this be a warning to not do a turn when you just want the whole thing to be over. The Shoho was ordered to Kobe and dutifully obeyed it's orders. Alas, it still had it's home port set to Tokyo and I did not change it. So, out it came again and got smashed. How come my ships only refuse to obey orders when they have a chance. :)

Bad few turns for the Empire of Japan. But, Hitler assures us that his impending offensive will win the war so I'm not too worried. Besides, we have our good friend Stalin who backs us 100%!

I'm not too worried, Scott may have more and better planes, ships, squads, tanks, supplies and fuel. But, I have the unconquerable will to win of my pixel warriors. :)

As for the game, this was a much better turn. Scott's carriers flew a strike at some freighters loading supplies for China in Nagasaki bay and lots of planes were lost for the cost of two large AKs. Scott also took time off from bombing Manila so that let's the AA guns recover as I continue to fly troops out.

And my sub boys got one back by putting two torpedoes into this CVL. The fuel explosion and the "heavy fires heavy damage" were both nice to see. The plane report shows dead on the field so it's likely this ship went down.

Finally, in a bit of a surprise, Scott attacked Marcus Island. My boys are almost out of supplies but they're dug in deep and have already taken a large toll of attackers. I also had a DD in port that was untouched so it's steaming out to see if it can catch anything before it goes down.

See, even late war Japanese subs can reach out and touch someone. Nice work!

Yeah, my subs are getting hammered by his ASW patrols but if the die roll is high enough you can pick up some VP in short order.

Sadly no. I have two long range air transports in Ichi Jima that can fly supplies in but that's a paltry 2 sp per turn. Better than nothing, but won't get the job done. I'll load up some subs with supplied in Yokahama, but the battle is likely over by then.

Another turn is in the books. In an air sense not too much happened other than the higher attrition that comes with Scott bombing the bejeepers out of me.

Scott did invade Cebu and has sent his medium bomber fleet there for the past two days giving Manila a respite. I've continued airlifting my divisions out. I won't get them all out, of course, but each day that passes by gets out another 200 squads/devices which will reduce the final butchers bill. Plus, I'm saving troops with experience levels of 90+.

In China, still pretty much the same front line. The circle in red is some random tank battalion. It's too small and too far away to really do much and I have a division moving towards that hex. The circle in black is a trap I was just barely able to extricate four divisions from. Scott moved a tank unit in behind me so technically I'm in a pocket there but I have a unit moving in from the north to reopen the road. I'll get hammered from the air, but I should be able to get out when he moves his massive army up from the south.

But, the day's big battle continues to be Marcus Island. Scott's forces got pummeled. I think that they're trapped in a doom loop of required shock attacks. It's interesting to see so many dead and not as many disorganized. Given my small, disrupted, and out of supply units I'm surprised at this result. He also has failed to reduced the fort level which means that if he has to keep attacking his units will be destroyed.

The units at Marcus need only one unit of supply to not receive a Malus for supply. That is what those two units of supply will do. [8D]

Really, the combat report says I got a (-) for supply! But, 2 points is better than no points. Especially as I took no losses at all. All of Scott's troops must be disrupted.

My mistake, a unit needs only one supply point for no malus. Multiple units, maybe only the first one gets the supply.

You might be right about that. Here is the current supply state of my brave pixels. I think that I saw Alfred or someone else once say that even at zero supply you still fight one with 25% of your combat power. Must be picking up the guns of the enemy dead or something like that.

As you can see, I have one unit at zero supply so maybe that's why I got the minus. Still, given my small units I'm amazed at how much death I've been dealing out. I wonder if Scott is overstacked and thus suffering extra casualties.

If you can pull a little out of each unit, you will also not be over stacked. The fragments will reform the unit and the Marcus Island forces will not suffer over stack penalties.

If the enemy has ships in the area and you have torpedo bombers in range, night torpedo attacks might cause more trouble. Those G3M3 Nells have very nice long legs. With trained crews, even Low Nav at night with bombs can wreck soft targets up to CA.

I have had torpedo plans set to night attacks throughout the game but they have never launched. Not sure why.

On the 22nd I thought I had an opening to go after some surface ships. I didn't. :)

The four divisions retreating in China are being hammered from the air. It was clear weather and the entire 4 engine fleet smashed them as well as the dive bombers Scott has been using for land attacks. He shock attacked me this turn causing large losses. Even though it's a main road out of there, I'm only moving 10 miles per day given all the interdiction they're facing.

If you've been following this AAR over the years you'll note that one of my enduring frustrations has been my carriers getting into position to pull of a nice surprise attack and then the planes not launching. It's happened again. I put 3 CVEs and 1 CVL plus two BBs with lots of float planes off the west coast of the US. In the previous turn one strike of BB floatplanes attacked a TK convoy and got one hit with a 60 lb bomb. None of the carrier planes attacked in either the morning or the afternoon. Oh well, who knows. Fog of war and bad micro weather yada yada.

So I split the TFs in two and this turn actually found three separate convoys (maybe Scott did not even notice the attack last turn). I'm in two different hexex, they're in three different hexes and not one single plane launched this time.[:@] It really doesn't make any sense at all that in four naval air phases there was one strike with two float planes. Oh well.

Well, at least this time Scott shock attacked at Marcus Island again and took more losses. He strat bombed Kagoashima which is basically a smoking ruin by now and it appears that he lost a DD to a mine. He also sent YMS to Guam. I wonder if an invasion is in the offing? I can only hope!

We're just about at the end of November. The days drag on when you're getting pounded from the air. :) Shot down a few planes over Manila. Scott did BB bombardment but did not attack like I thought that he would. Lots of troops being flown out. I can even get the 75mm guns on the transports so most of three divisions are out of there. No real action near Kyushu. But, a resupply convoy made it to Shanghai and even carried a little of fuel to get the HI there to start turning over again. Upon further reflection, I would not have build up HI in China, only LI. I have lots of resources and no fuel and a place like Manchuria can hold out long enough to make it worthwhile.

I'm not sure if Scott realized that I had carriers off of the West Coast. I actually blundered into two TFs in the middle of the night. the BBs did not fight as they had a CVL in the TF so everyone ran away.
