Yes its wrong, no DAP built Mk21's went to the RAF.
http://www.adf-serials.com.au/2a8.htm
As the first didnt fly until May 44 it would also not get Desert Camouflage

I also looked at the box art for the model. [:D]

MKVI's were the same but I believe didnt go to the Western Desert.

Beaufighter Mk VIC were at Malta

"Beaufighter Mk VIF V8380 ‘K’ of No. 89 Squadron RAF running up its engines at Castel Benito Libya"

Castel Benito is at Tripoli, neither it or Malta rate as "The Western Desert, the other is in NW Africa.

wdolson -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (6/27/2017 6:59:29 AM)

I don't believe the Mk 21 ever served in the Med. They were built in Australia and as far as I recall, all served in the SW Pacific or Burma. And the roundels wouldn't have the red dots.

It's also missing the signature feature of a Mk 21 which is the Sperry auto-pilot bump on the nose.

Looks like you have to go back and get them to change their placard!!! [X(]

(Tell them the rivet counters sent you...) [:D]

AW1Steve -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (6/27/2017 3:24:33 PM)

Obviously a TA-152.....If you want more than that , and of course you do, I'll need to do some research.

adarbrauner -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (6/27/2017 3:30:19 PM)

Does the Ta 152 has such "short" wings? Should't it be the D-9 version instead? [X(]

AW1Steve -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (6/27/2017 3:31:34 PM)

It appears to be a TA-152 H-1 model.

If, when you say "more than that", you include the right answer, then yes. I will need more than that. Wrong. [:'(]

Your guess is what?

adarbrauner -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (6/27/2017 6:22:47 PM)

As said, the fw 190 D-9. Because of the wings lenght...

Lecivius -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (6/27/2017 6:29:25 PM)

I'm interested, because I was thinking a FW-190 D9 as well. But Steve has SO many resources at his disposal...

Not on this subject. A nearly complete set of Jane's fighting SHIP's won't do much for this. As I said earlier in this thread, I'm not strong on German ww2 aircraft (or for that matter Japanese or Italian). I can ID the type , but when you get as specific as CB is asking, we'll then...as one of my old Navy instructors use to say "well boys , this is where we separate the fly **** from the pepper". Even the inventory of the USS Lexington's model collection doesn't go that specific. They list it as a "TA-152". [:(]

adarbrauner -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (6/27/2017 8:15:07 PM)

The Ta 152 was a high altitude fighter, with characteristic long and relatively thin wings.

This in the picture doesn't show having such.

Check pics!

OK, then with that bit of knowledge it must be a C-1,C-2 or C-3. Right? How do we break it out from there? [&:]

JeffroK -> RE: OT: Name that plane / ship (6/27/2017 8:31:14 PM)

Ta-152B

Correct FW 190 D9. Here's a little side by side comparison for ease of purpose. Note the cockpit placement further back on the wing relative on the TA-152. The TA-152's wingspan is about a meter longer with more squared tips too.

Even easier telltale: look at the supercharger intake: Daimler-Benz DB 600 series (Ta152B and C) had intake on port side of fuselage; Junkers Jumo 213 series (Fw-190D-9 and Ta152H) had intake on starboard side of fuselage. Of course, the Ta-152H had extremely long wingspan.

Andre , they seriously need your contributions. Might O suggest a P-3C update II from a NAS Brunswick , PATWING five , say VP-8 or maybe VP-92?
