I should give an update on the xalinas game too. Will do so when I get the turn back. Interesting and different defense style he has; more like the 'Egelstellung' tactic the Germans successfully applied in winter 41/42 in particular. So strong point defence allowing them to be cut off but severely hindering the advance much beyond those strong points.

Mmmhh, forgot to take screenshots of the xalinas game.

T8 sitrep:
- Leningrad... did a LEFT hook as his defense of the Luga, Novgorod and south of lake Ilmen was just too strong. I saw a weakness on the western end of the Luga line though and exploited that the last couple of turns. The first urban hex of Leningrad fell this turn (the most SW hex with level 4 fort), after a massive assault from 3 sides. Panzers have a ZOC on Schlusselburg and 10 divisions on the Luga line have now been surrounded. So all in all a successful turn.
- Moscow... still only around Rzhev-Vyazma-Bryansk (not inclusive!), so unlikely I'll get Moscow this summer. He retreated some 4 hexes so all I could do was roll up and get ready for assault next turn, if he doesn't fall back again. Panzers seeped through his lines a couple of hexes. Around Bryansk 2 panzer corps are opening up the southern flank. Also the northern flank between Rzhev and Valdai hills is weak. I put a motorized division across the river there to perhaps exploit that way next turn. Only 2 divisions pocketed here in the Center. So tempted to do a couple HQ BUs here to make a bigger advance and pockets, but it's not to be.
- South... across the lower Dnepr in force to envelope strong defensive positions from Z-town to D-town. Kiev feel quickly around turn 5 I think and this turn Pavlovo fell. His position between Pavlovo and D-town is strong but becoming dangerous now. 6 divisions trapped, to be pocketed next turn.
- Industry... not sure what his plan is here as I ZOC a lot of cities with most/all industry in it still. We're playing Barbarossa scenario so not so important I guess.
- Leaders... some big guns have been given command of corps the last couple of turns; Weiss, Rendulic, Balck, Nehring, etc. Still not running out of options to spend AP on. Again, too long term for the Barbarossa scenario probably.

Will try to remember to take a screenie next turn.

This experiment now spans 8 games. Of those 4 I consider irrelevant due to opponent resigning after the first 3-5 turns.

Status of the 4 remaining games:
A) FeliceAndrea45 - T13 resigned - Leningrad fallen & Moscow isolated
B) Drakken - T9 ongoing - Leningrad isolated and will fall in 2 turns & at the gates of Moscow, Kharkov and Stalino - game considered closed now (Dec17) as I haven't heard from Drakken for months, disappointing
C) Xalinas2 - T12 ongoing - Leningrad fallen & 2 hexes from Moscow plus wider enveloping moves happening (see screenshot update of this game below)
D) DesertedFox - just started, German T1 done

So far, I have to say playing without HQ BU is entirely ok and actually a lot of fun. It feels pretty realistic to have to struggle for fuel and trying not to outrun your supply. Let's see which of the 3 ongoing games will reach winter. I might sing a very different song then.

Xalinas game (Barbarossa scenario) - Leningrad area. Red circle is the railhead. Finns released and marching towards their final objective Cherepovets.

Northern pincer moving around Moscow. PG4, 16A and 18A arriving from Leningrad to strengthen this pincer. I didn't recon much this turn so not sure what's behind the Volga there towards Rybinsk. If nothing else it stretches his lines to cover this flank.

Moscow situation. PG3, 4A and 9A slogging straight ahead. Slow going but pushing the stacks back. Two hexes from Moscow.

Tula fallen and PG2 is operating here to form the southern pincer around Moscow. Just got across the Oka 6 hexes SE of Moscow. Supply is not brilliant here but the dual railheads are approaching (red circles).

Minimal forces on both sides in the Kursk-Voronezh area. Kharkov fallen. PG1 and 11A getting ready to isolate Stalino in the coming couple of turns.

Oh and you see the FBD 3 hexes west of Dnepo, no need to draw a red circle there...

And VPs being halfway through this Barbarossa scenario. Gives you a sense of the casualties too. VPs are pretty even so far, although I'm now earning 9 per turn whereas Xalinas is earning only 3 per turn. Still, Moscow will be the decider. Five turns to go before mud. I'm not so sure I'll get there.
