WingedIncubus -> Breaking the 1940 El-Alamein wall (10/28/2017 6:09:33 PM)

In some PBEM I play as Axis, instead of defending the Egyptian border, one tactic I see the Allied player adopt is staying in the rear to occupy the three hexes just beyond the Qattara depression with its Defence Force, right beside its supply sources. Since it takes two to three turns for Italian troops to reach that defence line, the British have time to entrench themselves, and with no possible flanking space. It becomes, in effect, an unbreakable wall. And with further Event replacements it becomes progressively even more impassable. While I understand its merits, isn't it a bit - well - gamey, especially in early 1940? The wall is nigh-on impassable and I struggle to find a decent plan to counter it on the short term. I tried to send a tank force around the Depression but they end up out of morale and supply really fast. Do you have some advice or ideas? Thanks!
