Grognard1812 -> Soviet GT 29 (12/27/2017 2:47:51 AM)

Soviet GT 29

Fifth turn of blizzard

First turn in the month of January, where Axis CV improves.

In the Rostov area the Soviet army was able to isolate another German Infantry Division, the escape route is
blocked by 3 cavalry corps.

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 29 (12/27/2017 2:50:19 AM)

The Red Army advance towards Tula continues - the leading units are only 80 miles from the city.

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 29 (12/27/2017 2:59:00 AM)

Since the blizzard turns started the Soviet army has increased to 5.3 million while the German army is now
3.3 million. The winter offensive should remain effective until the end of February.

This turn the Axis forces withdrew from Lipetsk (1 VP), which was reoccupied by the Soviet army. The VP total for
Tyronec is now 246. The recapture of five more VP are required by the Soviet army to avoid a sudden death scenario
loss on the first week of April 1942.

Boy you are going to cut it close. Looks to me the Stalino tri cities will hold. Tyronec has a nice defense down here.

Nix77 -> RE: Soviet GT 29 (12/27/2017 8:12:41 AM)

The Soviet CVs are definitely doubled in normal blizzard. There’s no other way an orange morale rifle div would have CV4.

So the shattered division was actually a CV3-4 division, it probably had inflated ToE and low morale, and maybe suffered big losses? I can’t figure any other reason for it. Good morale units shouldn’t shatter unless they suffer really dramatic losses.

chaos45 -> RE: Soviet GT 29 (12/27/2017 10:36:33 AM)

Looks to me like Germans have the sudden death conditions locked. They are paying in blood to keep them but in 4 turns the soviets wont get the other major cities and by FEB the Germans are close to back to normal CV so the Soviet offensive will start to stall and face counterattacks.

Also if tyronec shut off replacements, which I think he did based on only 9k German divisions when they surrender then he will flood the frontlines with German replacements after the winter.

Haven't cut off replacements though there are a lot of men in the pool. If I survive past Feb. there will be no 'after winter' because just mud until April.

T30.
AGN. Holding well and the encirclement from last turn didn't close.
AGC. More of a threat in the south now, to Belgorod & Kkarkov, so will need to move some of my defences down next turn.
AGS. One division lost as expected. The Rostov area is secure for now with two mountain divisions, more of a threat from the North towards Gorlovka but there are two cities in the way there before the Soviets can get through to Stalino which is the critical urban hex.

Grognard1812 -> Soviet GT 30 (12/27/2017 5:29:11 PM)

Soviet GT 30

Blizzard, the second week of January 1942.

The German 257th Infantry Division surrenders. The strength of the German Infantry divisions are much lower than
they were earlier when the first blizzard turn started.

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 30 (12/27/2017 5:37:07 PM)

The Rostov area end of GT 30

The Axis withdrew from Voroshilovgrad (1 VP) which the Soviet army reoccupied. The Soviet army now needs to
recapture only 4 VP to prevent a sudden death campaign game loss on the first week of April 1942.

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 30 (12/27/2017 5:43:03 PM)

The Voronezh area at the end of GT 30.

The Axis has strong defenses east of Moscow, Tula and Stalino but the Axis defenses are much weaker
in the line from Orel - Kursk - Belgorod - Kharkov which the Red army will try to exploit on the next few turns.

tyronec -> T31 (12/31/2017 7:44:23 AM)

T31.
AGN. Holding off most attacks.
AGC. Defence is looking thin in front of Kharkov. Three reinforcement divisions railed in this turn.
AGS. Am weak to the north. Soviets have hit my main defensive line to the south so will see if that can hold for a turn or two.
Am rotating a few divisions back to cities for refit each turn but limited by rail capacity to about five each go.

Grognard1812 -> Soviet GT 31 (12/31/2017 6:17:48 PM)

Soviet GT 31

Blizzard in all Soviet weather zones, 7th turn of blizzard.

Northeast of Moscow the Axis defensive line is weakening, the Red Army is 70 miles from Moscow.

[image]local://upfiles/56401/150D01CC5F77407E823C0D2A15E1E961.jpg[/image]

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 31 (12/31/2017 6:22:10 PM)

The Axis defensive line is solid east of Tula.

The Soviet army is 70 miles from the important victory point city of Tula.

[image]local://upfiles/56401/2E5C332B27AA4EF09465F8D4AB7B69DC.jpg[/image]

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 31 (12/31/2017 6:26:16 PM)

In the Rostov area progress is being made, as the Soviet army is now only 40 miles from the city of Gorlovka.

[image]local://upfiles/56401/E815ED9ADA2D4AC0992E81C0B9E2C0EF.jpg[/image]

tyronec -> T32 (1/2/2018 10:47:19 AM)

T32.
AGN. Lose a couple of hexes and have to abandon Vladimir, but a long distance to Moscow.
AGC. Am weak in front of Kharkov and get pushed back two hexes. Counter attacks rout about 10 units including a cav corps. 7 hexes buffer left.
AGS. Lose a couple of hexes to the NE, now 6 hexes to Stalino.

First partisan attack of the game but no harm done. Am short of rail capacity to move as many divisions around as I would like.
Supply situation is beginning to improve now we are into '42. Supplies were DIRE in late '41 with the new formula in the recent patch, many units getting only 10-15% per turn.

[image]local://upfiles/52296/53F9FD71FE7743E892CAB72AA5FF92E3.jpg[/image]

Grognard1812 -> Soviet GT 32 (1/2/2018 9:30:34 PM)

The Axis retreated from the city of Vladimir (1 VP), which the Soviet army reoccupied. To avoid a sudden death
campaign game loss on the first turn of April 1942 the Soviet army must recapture 3 more VP.

Most of the German units in the area northeast of Moscow are now 70 morale or lower.

[image]local://upfiles/56401/E3250337C7B447D68C20F0E2B1C92E13.jpg[/image]

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 32 (1/2/2018 9:33:42 PM)

The situation in the Stalino area. Advancing about one hex a turn, the Axis is weakest northeast of Stalino.

[image]local://upfiles/56401/B53B5C159F8B46B991327FB1F11B429A.jpg[/image]

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 32 (1/2/2018 9:36:39 PM)

The Soviet winter offensive in the Kharkov area is going well, the leading units are only 30 miles from Kharkov.

[image]local://upfiles/56401/69BD9C4C40574A59991C5E6FAF14B967.jpg[/image]

tyronec -> T33 (1/3/2018 10:23:23 AM)

T33.
AGN. Lose a few more hexes but no real threat to Moscow.
AGC. Soviets getting closer to Kharkov and my reinforcements are slow to arrive. Rout another 10 or so units this turn with counter attacks.
AGS. The advance on Stalino from the NE continues.
Next turn is January so my CVs increase and the weather can vary.

Grognard1812 -> Soviet GT 33 (1/3/2018 6:28:07 PM)

Soviet GT 33

Last turn in January 1941, 9th turn of blizzard.

Making good progress northeast of Moscow. The German units are almost all below 71 morale.

I expect the Soviet winter offensive to continue into February 1941 even if the Axis CV improves.

[image]local://upfiles/56401/CE9D5835B4FF4649A383A3FEB80D0123.jpg[/image]

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 33 (1/3/2018 6:31:37 PM)

The Soviet winter offensive continues in the Belgorod - Kharkov area.

Grognard1812 -> RE: Soviet GT 33 (1/3/2018 6:34:34 PM)

In the Stalino area the 131st Tank Brigade is only 20 miles from the city of Gorlovka.

Ya, he cuts that supply line behind Stalino those units are in trouble :)

tyronec -> T34 (1/4/2018 9:07:49 AM)

T34.
AGN. I make a mistake and two divisions get trapped because of an impassable lake hexside.
AGC. Soviets making something of a breakthrough to the south of Kharkov, will see next turn how much they can gain from it. Two mountain regiments get pocketed but manage to release them, may be under more threat next turn but have a Pz corps in place to help out.
We rout about 20 units this turn with counter attacks, though a couple fail.
AGS. Another hex closer to Stalino, southern line holds.
No luck with the weather yet.

John B. -> RE: T34 (1/4/2018 12:04:20 PM)

I think the Soviets are wishing they could indulge in some of that opiate of the masses and pray for continued blizzard! :)

Mamluke -> RE: T34 (1/4/2018 1:50:12 PM)

Man this if getting tense! great AAR from both tyronec and Grognard1812!
I'm doing my own PBEM game as Soviets, so I hope to learn as much as I can for how to winter offensive. this winter offensive looks unstoppable but does Grognard have enough time to encircle the cities he needs? Tyronec is willing to sacrifice units if it buys him time, if a city hex is in danger he could just park 1 panzer divisions, 2 INf. division came hell or high water. worst case scenario he can deliver supplies by air to get beach head supplies state, and from what I've seen from other AAR, its almost impossible to stop the deliveries.

BTW can anyone detailed the difference between reduce Blizzard and Normal Blizzard please?

My understanding is that the biggest difference between normal blizzard and reduced blizzard is that in normal
blizzard (which we are playing in this game) there is a loss of 1 morale for non-Finnish Axis units whenever
they are attacked and the final end of combat odds are greater than 1:2. This can have a large impact on the
morale level of the Axis units after a month or two of blizzard turns. Also the Axis CV values are more
negatively affected by normal blizzard.

Grognard1812 -> Soviet GT 34 (1/5/2018 1:47:05 AM)

The weather is blizzard in all Soviet weather zones.

The Soviet winter offensive is still going strong into February 1942.

The German 102nd and 292nd Infantry Divisions surrender near Moscow.
