winkr7 -> east front scenario TGW 1941-1945 c vs c has a bug perhaps (11/20/2017 11:29:01 PM)

I ran the east front scenario computer vs computer to see what happens and the germans advance well in the first weeks but they leave lots of units behind stuck at the last mop-up battle. I don't now if its a scenario flaw or comp vs comp flaw since i haven't played as the russians vs comp. I am just pointing this out if anyone is interested -- this is not a complaint.

It's not a flaw or bug or anything like that. Generally speaking, no matter what we do in programming the Axis PO, as the front expands the Axis side runs out of units [not an excuse for a game, but historically accurate anyway]. So if we cover everything up front, it slows down the advance tremendously. Therefore the design is to get east fast. If you play as the Soviets against the Axis, I recommend imposing some restraint on any use of Soviet units that are 'left behind'.

Thanks for the intel, if you do think it is of concern I am always interested in seeing save files, which you send to me if you like [e-mail can be seen if you click on my name to the left].
I can in return give you some intel ... I have a good solution that will make the game well playable as the Soviets vs. the Computer Axis, but it requires a scenario rewrite in order to include two different versions [the same as Nach Frankreich]. However, I have yet to decide which scenario to do this for [there are so many East Front scenarios to choose from!], or even if I am committed to doing it.

30% of the German army is sitting way back and not moving for good. After the first battles they never move again. I ran computer vs computer for 20 minutes this time to be sure.
I don't see this problem Eastern Front 1941-1945 computer vs computer. I think some formations have no goals perhaps, the stopped units seem to be in clumps. IX.AK and VII.AK seem to have lots of lost souls.

I should take a look then, as this scenario is optimized for solo play and that sounds bad. If you don't mind, if you can send me a save file so I can take a look. I am sorry I just don't have the time to run it myself right now. Thanks!

Thank you so much for spotting this, not a bug but a bad flaw.

Please click here to switch to Track 1 [while in the Axis turn]. I need to fix that permanently and resubmit the scenario, otherwise, well it just sucks.

Interesting to note that, if you had seen any of the other multiple discussions on AI and PO, that this scenario was operating for 8 turns with NO PO at all for the Axis, it was only the AI that was trying its best with no direction. As we said in the other threads, not really a challenge, but it still tries.
