Chicharito19 -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (11/28/2017 4:54:43 AM)

I reinstalled it just a bit ago in the default directory. This time I made sure to use the file from Danielle's post. I also made sure that my virus protection was off AND ran as administrator.

I got no error messages during install. When I try to run it the computer asks if I want to let the program make changes to my computer...I said yes. THEN...nothing. [:(][:(][:(]

If I try to start it from the actual exe file again as administrator...same thing.

I'm using Windows 10 64bit, Home Edition, version 1703.

Michael

Hi Michael,

What specific error message did you get during the install?

I see you are running 1703 update and I'm wondering why you haven't updated to 1709 yet

Chicharito19 -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (11/29/2017 1:20:41 AM)

Hmmm when I checked Windows it said I was up to date and had updated n Sunday night. I dunno...I can check again.

Seems both the desktop and laptop are at 1703. Both say up to date. But when I click check for update it says update 1709 is available. I am going to update both computers.

Michael

OK, update your computer then try installing the game and update4 again and let me know.

Chicharito19 -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (11/30/2017 2:47:22 AM)

I updated to 1709...which took extremely long. I uninstalled and reinstalled. It still didn't work. No error message, just back to the game menu.

So, when you installed the game and applied the UPDATE4, were there no errors ?

How do you run the game, from the matrix games application or directly by click on the Tigers on the Hunt.exe?

Chicharito19 -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (11/30/2017 4:05:19 AM)

Hi Peter,

!st off...sorry abut not being good at explaining this stuff. I'm not a beta tester I'm afraid. [&:]

Hope that helps. I have run the game primarily through the menu. But I've also tried going directly through to the exe file. Why does it show the exe file as version 1.0.0.1?

Peter Fisla -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (11/30/2017 11:44:57 AM)

Hi Michael,

Can you install the game into say C:\Tigers or use a different drive but not into "C\Program Files...", then install the update and run the game directly see what happens.

Chicharito19 -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (11/30/2017 10:05:42 PM)

I can try. But actually I have already installed in bot already. Progam files didn't work. Neither did installing on c:\.

Michael

Sorry Michaeel, I don't follow. Do me a favour, install the game into "C:\Tigers" and then install the update4 patch manually (do not run autoupdate). Then run the game "Tigers on the Hunt.exe" directly...do not use the matrix games application.

Please follow these steps exactly, and please let me know what happens.

saminurmela -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (12/1/2017 10:20:50 AM)

I have the same error as Michael, though the exception code ends in 1d, not 41d.
The error affects both program exe and editor, programs just die on start (not getting to show even the splash screen).

After thorough testing I can tell the problem does not depend on installation directory or Matrix installer. I will not go through the full process, but my 30 year career as computer tech/software/support professional has taught me something (yeah, I know how fishy this sounds, as I have met my share of self-proclaimed professionals too but please try to stay with me for now :)

I have installed a minimal test enviroment (both new and old editor exe, audiere.dll, configuration.ini and subdirectories Sound with click.ogg and Graphics with terrain.png). This is enough to start the old editor exe just fine, but the new one does not run.

I run process monitoring (procmon) on starting the program, and found the dying point of the process. It exits with Exit Status: minus one oh seven three seven four one seven nine five (forum does not allow me posting numbers as I'm new). I'm not sure if it is of any help though.
The 1.081 version reads dll dependencies, configuration file and click.ogg succesfully, but dies soon after that. This was confirmed also with error messages I got when removing the respective files from installation directory.

One possible cause may be the cpu extensions (SSE2 and such). For example, I found a report on a bug Visual Studio 2013, which causes a crash on Windows 7 x64 if there is no support for the AVX2 on the CPU (as is the case on my old quad-core Intel I7 860. Microsoft has stated the bug being fixed on Visual Studio 14, but not retroactively on 2013:

"As a workaround when using Visual Studio 2013, we recommend disabling the use of FMA3 in the math library if you are affected by this issue. You can do this by calling _set_FMA3_enable(0). This function is declared in <math.h>, and is available only when building for x64 (this bug only affects the x64 libraries)."

I am not saying this exact case is the cause of problem with TotH, but is it possible there has been changes in included libraries or compiler options between ToTH versions 1.056 and 1.081 ?

Best regards,
Sami

Tamas -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (12/1/2017 10:58:23 AM)

Thank you for the reports everyone, we are still trying to find out what went wrong, as the update works fine in most cases, but clearly gets messed up with some configurations.

Hi Sami,

In VS2013 that I use for the game development (I have VS2017 but its still buggy), there are 4 different code generations for Enhanced Instruction Set:

Streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE)
Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2)
Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) <--- currently set
Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2)

So I'm going to change this to (SSE2) {setting used when the game was originally released}, and I'm going to attach a beta version of the executable to see if it fixes the issues. Please test it for me guys and let me know if it fixes the issue. If it does, I will provide the new build to Tamas.

thanks!

UPDATE, January 17/2018 since the Build 1.0.82 update has now been officially released, the beta patch originally posted in this message was removed.

UP844 -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (12/1/2017 1:36:24 PM)

Peter, thanks for your effort! [&o]

Should I replace the current executable with the beta? (Excuse me, but I am a computer illiterate [:)])

zakblood -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (12/1/2017 1:40:10 PM)

yes, the one from the Attachment (1) etc

I have installed the attached file and the game starts again, showing V1.0.82.

Thank you very much, I am happy [:)]

Only if the UPDATE4 doesn't run on your computer...

Peter Fisla -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (12/1/2017 2:22:14 PM)

Here is modified Editor executable (post UPDATE4) that will run on older CPUs only supporting SSE2; v0.2.67 in case the one provided in UPDATE4 crashes.

I'm glad this fixes the issue with UPDATE4, I'm sorry it's my fault that the UPDATE4 didn't go as smooth for some of you as it should.

zakblood -> RE: 1.0.81 update: what have I done wrong? (12/1/2017 5:36:04 PM)

learning curve, you were as quick as anyone to fix it, that's all the matters, and never past it on and said it was someone else's fault etc

Ok Great, I'm assuming you first installed UPDATE4 and then installed the beta executables correct ?
