Rhysaxiel -> Can a torpedo damage a sub 1000ft deeper ? (3/16/2018 5:22:33 PM)

Hello fellow Commanders ! I'm currently playing a nerve breaking and mind blowing scenario (The Four Horsemen) and I ran into a situation I feel is a bit odd. My Lira sub, lying above the layer, got detected, identified, triangulated, tracked and, unfortunately, torpedoed. What is bugging me is that the torpedo managed to inflict severe damages to my ship while being ~1000 ft above my ship. Here is a detailed report, it may help : As soon as my sub heard the dipping sonar contact, I steered him (her for subs ?) away. Then the terrible torpedo-incoming message popped, which prompted me to pull the panic button : full flank, full dive to increase my evasion chances. The torpedo (later ID as a Stingray mk 0) fell for decoys twice (!) then missed the target (!!) and failed to reattack (!!!). I kept flanking and diving. The ASW helo then launched a second torpedo, which hit my sub a few seconds later with its 80% to-hit-proba. My ship was around 2000 ft deep while the torpedo was between 900 and 1100ft deep. Log mentions "torpedo impacted ship". Well, that's a damn impact indeed :D Damages includes most magazines and torpedo tubes (it has no firepower anymore), some sensors, most comms suite and amount to 47.5% of all ship's systems. I'm not an expert of sub warfare by any stretch of the imagination, but it still seems odd to me that the deflagration may inflict such damages from 1000ft/300 meters away, or even that the proximity fuse of the torpedo triggered at such distance. I don't mind loosing that sub considering the Mission:Impossible situation I'm in, and it's an ok tradeoff for 5 NATO ships sunk, but it's puzzling nonetheless. What do you think ? Working as designed (I'll take any documentation on this fascinating topic) ? Buggy ? Somewhere in between ? Best regards, Rh. EDIT : added a save occuring just before the hit, zoomed in the action.
