Lowpe -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/25/2018 12:36:41 AM)

Nells dropped some 250kg on Tabby's runways today, scored 2-3 hits flying extended range and very high...just to let the Allies know I can bomb there...

Meanwhile some Yank divebombers showed up, and hit the port of the little atoll I took next door. As if I wanted to build it up![:D] They missed the itty bitty PBs running in 330 supply each. More on this base tomorrow...

Maybe with some planes at Tabby now, the battleships will target the runway?

Should be some fireworks possibly here on the morrow. We shall see.

Over at Manila...the sad, starving defenders, surrender on the first attack which got a 5-1 on a nice roll.

Lowpe -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/25/2018 12:43:17 AM)

Clearing up the southern approaches in China while bases build up in the north.

The final push could be from the Ankang and north area, or a pivot round and push up the road from Canton to the north. Preparing for both, leaving Changsha for last. Might pursue both at the same time in a great pincer movement.

More than half of Chungking's industry is in ruins.

Lowpe -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/25/2018 2:07:09 AM)

Japan must have bombarded Tabby a dozen times by now, and only once did they do any damage to the building ports and airfields.

Twice this game the Navy has bombarded packed runways, only to target the troops.

Not sure what I could be doing wrong as dl is very good. For examples today's bombardments:

Late May, 1942 - Actions around Tabby

Destroyers that hit mines are ok...plenty of ADs in the area to take care of them.

Can't buy a hit on the 18 SBD there, the size 2 runway, the 12 PBYs or the size 1 port.

Lokasenna -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/25/2018 3:24:06 PM)

This is looking like a great opportunity to kill the 2nd USMC Division, along with the 24th (less valuable target).

What size is the port/AF at Tabit? I am wondering if they are too small to hit reliably with bombardments (e.g., the divisions are bigger targets).

A series on timed fast transport invasions goes off without a hitch...some disablements landing, but that was to be expected. These bases will support some small naval search by flying boats and floats establishing a safety net for IJN operations at pounding Tabby.

Speaking of which, we just can't get any port or runway damage. No spotter flew, weather is bad in the area.

Feel very good at combating a CV raid aimed at Hokkaido/Sakhalin.

Attu is of course very vulnerable. The Americans haven't built up any of the islands to the east...till Kodiak which is overbuilt.

I feel pretty strongly the Americans will come here while the IJN is pre-occupied with Tabby. An AV with 9 Jakes is heading out for the deep waters to see if we can spot anything, until all the pieces come together.

I can't believe the Yanks didn't come here when the KB was at Ceylon.

Lowpe -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/28/2018 1:52:14 PM)

Opening days of June...

At Tabby in the South Pacific, IJN bombardments continue to shell the troops but never a hit on the runways or port. Some SBDs attempted to nail some small cargo trawlers, and a small chutai of Rufes shot down 10 with no hits scored on the shipping.

The mines there are also something of a problem. A small AMc doesn't sweep any despite being there for a week. A DMS next door wont sweep them, won't sweep them when she moves into and out of the hex either.

A DMS in the bombardment task force generally clears 9 mines a bombardment. But, I believe 4 destroyers have been hit, and this last turn one actually sunk.

Up in the North Pacific, there is lots of shipping moving east and west.

Lowpe -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/28/2018 2:58:47 PM)

Early June, 1942

Americans look to retake all of the Aleutians.

I am 1-2 days off from being ready. The IJN will attempt to buy some time here...

Not pictured are all the multiple task forces coming west, once all the air search was done. It is a well structured advance, but I don't see any carriers present.

Airplanes evacuated from Attu, and a splinter of the IJN aviation base removed as well. I really don't care about losing Attu, just want to sting the Americans some or maybe a lot.

Lowpe -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/28/2018 3:05:19 PM)

Here is picture of a splinter of a division marching out of Clark AFB. They attacked with fatigue in the mid 40s, and I knew disablements would be heavy, but losses few.

The tired troops are marching out, and fresh rested divisions marching in, everybody should swap places on the morrow, and if the supplies are adequate, I believe Clark will fall. Otherwise, the IJA will wait a day for the logistics to catch up before attacking.

Lowpe -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/29/2018 12:05:45 AM)

Dawn breaks and the Allied armada has offloaded, with some landing mishaps, a vast force. Likes sand on beach, the cursed Americans swarm Attu finding nary a Japanese soldier alive.

But, lo, on the horizon, a wolf stirs, a flank speed run all night and into the early hours of dawn...the sheep dogs are away, their ammo spent, and the IJN looks for revenge. The fire, the fury, the sheer brazenness of the Japanese sailor springs a deadly surprise.

And it is whispered in on the beaches, with the flotsam and jetsam of defeat...how can the Yamoto elude the Allied Carrier pilots for the rest of the day though? Ultimate triumph will surely be with the Allies today.

Panic grabs the Allied Armada...and soon reports of Japanese dive bombers and torpedo bombers are sighted over the vast armada.

The Yamoto is forgotten as sea planes spot Japanese carriers to the south...

But on the beaches of Attu, their GI's can only stare in wonder. Where are the Wildcats?

Sailors of the North Pacific know how the weather can change...and change she does as heavy seas, severe storms, and a driving rain preclude any flights in the afternoon. A final flight of morning Kates, the last to return, missed with their torpedoes on a venerable light cruiser.

The pilots were willing to fly...

but it was not to be. A bitter blow.

Lowpe -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/29/2018 12:43:36 AM)

Instead of steaming away, the Yamoto decides to refuel her escorts very close to Attu. A bold decision of the Captain, but in this case it proves the correct one.

Her ammunition down to 17% and not a single torpedo left...

it will be a long trip to rearm those might guns of the Yamoto, plus a little time fixing some minor damage.

Lowpe -> RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies) (8/29/2018 12:51:09 AM)

462 planes stand ready for the morrows operations on the KB, only 1 plane is down for repairs, and 9 are held in reserve.

But there are many questions...not the least the weather. Carrier operations here are perilous...and this trap, so meticulously planned fell short -- for the Allied carriers are still afloat.

OH, to have had even 1 more day...
