**That monger dropped mines 60 miles south of Shortlands in the shallow channel between Treasury Islands and Pienuna as well as off Posarae (in "The Slot", 3 hexes ESE of Shortlands). He did that 30 SSE of Gili Gili too. Fortunately, an MSW found them...

Cost of USN Mines off Shortland = 2 sub missions
Cost of not escorting IJN supply TF's through said waters = 1 TK, 1 AG.
Dirty tricks I might resort to if he does it again = Priceless...

> >Something is brewing in the Southeast.

Lots of activity around Noumea, and I can't get a handle on where his d@mn CV's are. They're not in port, and I haven't spotted them. I have an H/K group searching them out, but no contact yet...

mogami -> US Navy (8/4/2003 8:49:39 PM)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/20/42

Ordered 32nd Div to move from Brisbane to Rockhampton. Ordered 2 Bde to move from
Rockhampton to Townsville. SWPAC ordered troops to reinforce Goro and Tomo (the two
closest bases to Noumea. I don't want the Japs to be able to make cheap landings on New Cal
I'll send another RCT to Kourmac.) I know I don't have time to wait for more troops.
I have to discover where the enemy is going to attack and move troops from the other HQ.
For auto victory all he has to do is hold on to Luganville or Efate. However I feel he
is going to try for Townsville or Noumea. (He must know he has waited too long for
Noumea (current combat strength is over 900) Japanese Rgt are 144. 2-1 is 1800 so
he would need to bring 13 Rgt. Currently the Oz bases would require 8 Rgt for 2-1-Thats why I need
to know where he is coming so I can send another 200 points to the target base.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/21/42

I feel naked. 13 days before anymore ships arrive. 45 days before enough troops have came
in to protect everything that needs protecting (To where 5-6 Jap Rgt are needed rather then
a single SNLF)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/22/42

I don't mind bad weather attacks. (The results are always more mild then what would occur
in good weather.) As a result I am always vulnerable to bad weather attacks
(It's when I rest my pilots)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/23/42

Hmmm, It's starting to look like Townsville might be the future target.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/24/42

There is nothing to stop those raids with. I must preserve my ships.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/25/42

These attacks are so weak I'm beginning to suspect they are only harrassment or diversions.
Townsville and Rockhampton both have over 500 combat strength. (meaning 1000 Japs have to
land) Brisbane has 350 with another 100 arriving in 10 days and a further 100 12 days after
that. I will remain weak in surface ships for some time. (I only have enough ships for 1 TF)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/26/42

DD Farenholt, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage (will take some real damage control to
get this ship back into port.)
Increased AA at CT taking effect.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/27/42

Farenholt made it to port. However DD Blue making the crossing from Rockhampton to Noumea
has begun taking on water. Flooding now 26 (ship is only making 1 knot and is halfway)

I'm going to bomb the port at Gili Gili tonight just to remind the Japanese it is in range
coast watchers have been reporting a lot of ship movement there. (Including reporting at least
1 BB) The gnat attacks have not bothered TV however a BB is a different matter.
I've ordered enough transport to move 1 div to return to Noumea. (it's getting about time
to deal with Efate and Luganville.) I need the weather to improve so I can bomb them both for
a few weeks. The 2 Bde I ordered to TV should arrive there in the next few days.
I've not spotted enough enemy transport to worry about any base yet. However the number of surface
ships around Gili has my attention. (I hope the Japs are wearing their ships out on these
runs to TV. They've not bothered me. (A few Wirraway now and then.... yippie)
Notice no fighters over CT for the last 2 days. I'm returning 1 AA unit to TV (the one with the
large guns) I can't tell if my coastal guns are firing at these bombardment TF's (no hits being
reported) I'm in the difficult period. I have to mount two invasions before 1 Jan 43 but I am
at the same time still worried about a further serious Japanese attack against a Auto victory base.
I'll have to get accurate data on Japanese defense (so I don't use more then required) and
select units in a manner that leaves my bases defended.

Well if my pilots are as blind as they lack in skill, then I got hammered, which is what I think happened.

I'll be lucky to get Akagi and Hiryu home... even so, all I'll be doing is conserving VP's....

mogami -> USN (8/7/2003 5:04:01 AM)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/28/42

I'm going to invade Efate in the next 2 weeks to remove it as a victory option.
(and to provoke a response-I want to see where the main Japanese commitment is)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/29/42

Enemy minesweeps clearing Luganville. Not sure if they are bringing in supply or troops
or removing troops. Efate airfield and port closed.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/30/42

Operation "Deception" underway. My BB TF left Brisbane several days ago. (It arrived Noumea)
I made a TF of 1 PT-boat to sit at Brisbane. While I wait for transports to arrive Noumea I
make several TF's there every turn. Then next turn I disband them all and make new ones
(alter number and type ships) So far enemy recon has only spotted one TF at sea. (several AK
leaving Brisbane moving 10 hexes out and then returning. (splits one ship off that continues
on to Noumea) So for next 10 days or so enemy recon can spot TF's moving between Noumea and
Brisbane and they have to guess where anything is actually going. I'm going to hit Efate with
2 div. and then if possible move on to Luganville (depends on speed and size of Japanese reaction)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/31/42

Several interesting things occured. Jap CV in between Brisbane and Noumea find and hit my
decoy AK. I wonder if this is just a raid or are the CV covering the flank of a Jap Attack towards
TV?. My CV are going to react and try to surprise the enemy CV tomorrow. (Before the Jap pilots
get too much rest) meanwhile I'll keep my eyes open before trying to load transports at Noumea.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/01/42

Very interesting turn in regard to airsearch and coast watcher reports. For the first time
in many days many AP spotted from Lunga to Shortland and at Gili. Jap TF by Luganville (mine
clearing? or supply?) Also the IJN CV moved towards Brisbane. (My CV will be in their long
range tomorrow if they don't react to get closer.)

The Americal Div, a Cav Rgt and USMC Eng Bn began loading on transports for movement to Efate

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/02/42

Soryu got off light but I think Akagi and Hiryu are out of the war. My two birdfarms
will be OK if they make it back to port. (30 SYS) Proceeding with Efate operation
but I'm a little disturbed. Last report showed another CV up by Luganville. ( I'll
try to get back to Noumea repair damage and restock aircraft and stand by in case
this new CV force tries to interfer. After the Operation the CV can head back to PH
for repair. (Only Wasp needs repair other CV is undamaged)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/03/42

my minesweepers are clearing Efate.

mogami -> USN (8/7/2003 5:04:01 AM)

Auto Victory. Along with capturing the base the Japanese need 2 x required supply to trigger Auto Victory. I need to insure Luganville does not maintain the supply requirement. It's a two edged sword for the Japanese. The more troops they place in the base the harder it is for me to gain the required odds to recapture it. But the higher the supply requirment the harder it becomes for them to maintain the needed level. You can be sure after Dec 15th if I don't hold the base my B-17 will be on high intensity bombing mode.

Oops. Forgot to have CV's follow the supply transports retiring from Luganville

So, he's managed to wrest Efate back from me. No mean feat, but I put enough units there to make him over-commit to get it. I didn't check to see how many AP/AK he actually lost, but damaged or lost, it cost him dearly...

Now, I need to supply Luganville, as I intend to hold it, come hell or high water (or B-17's)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

mogami -> USN (8/9/2003 9:25:51 AM)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/04/42

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/05/42

The IJN CV up by Luganville is Junyo. I need 3-4 days before I can engage her. (I really want to
catch her) but I think she will be gone. My troops should begin going ashore tonight.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/06/42

Hmmm It now looks like my operation might have ran headon into a Japanese operation.
That northern group is not just Junyo. It is Kaga Junyo and 2 CVL. It is on location
too soon to have moved in response to my movement to Efate.
Looks like I was lucky with the South CV group. (I had thought it was screening the flank
of an attack toward Townsville. It might have been meant to prevent movement to SOPAC.
(My SOPAC movement had taken place 1-2 days before this force arrived)
Now I'm in a fix. If I panic for no reason I leave the troops I've already unloaded.
But if this is really as bad as it looks. If I run now I save 20k load points of troops.
All my CA are damaged. I have 1 BB and 8-9 DD to fight off a large number of IJN ships.
My CV have refueled and taken on new aircraft. But they are 2-3 days from being in range.
I would have ran outright except for the weather. I'm hoping he holds off on surface battle for
1 more day.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/07/42

OK now to finish unloading and get the transports out. Repair the airfield and then get
fighters there.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/08/42

I don't like using AP for invasions. (they are for troop movement between friendly bases)
However the LST do not arrive till next year. (Which is too late) The good news is I have a lot of AP.

I smell an H/K group...

Apparently, I've rubbed the fur backwards on my lucky rabbit's foot again, and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat...

Soryu is now done for the war, and I'll be lucky to prevent her from sinking... She stopped to fuel an escort, and did not get out of range from the dangerous hornet's nest at Efate Port Vila.

I cannot support Luganville directly anymore due to the threat of Efate's multiple NAG's (orphaned from Saratoga and Wasp, no doubt). I'll have to come up with a scheme to deal with that, which I think is possible.

mogami -> USN (8/19/2003 12:03:46 AM)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/11/42

I forgive my SBD pilots. Another IJN CV damaged. (The next battle will take place at
Luganville. However this time it will be under Allied landbased air.)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/12/42

Here we go. 2 missions now.
Knock all fuel and supply out of Luganville.
Get a TF to protect Efate. (PT's away)

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/13/42

Oh well. He can't afford to lose 3 crusiers per night.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/14/42

2 subs for 1 tanker. another sub spotted both my hunter/killer groups moving there.
Cairns and Cooktown appear abandoned. This points toward Japan intending to hold Luganville
or operate against Noumea. (otherwise these cities would be important for refueling/repair
air cover of any attack on Townsville) I'll recapture them just to keep track of them.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/15/42

Got the other sub. I'm sending some support units to Efate HQ,AA,CD,Eng

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/16/42

Another sub outside Noumea. Sending a few transports to Brisbane to be used to reclaim
Cairns and Cooktown.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/17/42

rats lucky sub. Lets see if it is smart enough to move.

Everything is procedding according to plan. Approx 100 days remain to capture Luganville. (However in order to achive Auto victory the Japanese will need 2x required supply. The more troops defending the higher the required supply. My heavy bombers have some work to do.)
