One thing, I just thought I would be easier on the Axis player. Actually it wouldn't. At least not with Italy. Here is what would happen if you played Italy. Armoured Lion would play his German turn, then you play your turn, then Armoured Lion plays his Japan turn, and then the turn order would continue as normal, with the Soviet player. So each time in effect the turn would have to swing by Armoured Lion twice, and he would have to be ready for it twice, which would cause delays. If you on the other hand played the Japanese, then this would not happen. There would be one less delay on waiting on the turn. In general there is one thing that delays games more than anything else. It is waiting for the previous players taking their turns. The more players, the more delays, in between turns. It is why I advocate only playing 3. Now I know playing 3 Axis powers solo, and 4 Allied powers solo is a big task. So I can understand splitting them over 2 people. But never in a way that causes an interrupt. Thus it should always be split in orders of play. So Axis: (first player) Germany & Italy (second player) Japan Or... more counterintuitive and probably less good for the German player (first player) Germany (second player) Italy & Japan. With the allies something similar can be done: (first player) France & Britain (second player) USA & China Splitting USA from China is potentially bad, since the US can do things that help the Chinese more than anyone else, but if you would want to I guess you could play it like this: (first player) France, Britain & USA (second player) China Playing France Solo is a bad deal. You almost certainly get conquered, unless the Axis player is still learning, and then probably too. So you are stuck the rest of the game, either simply passing the turn on, waiting for someone to gift you your country back, or units, or sending your password to the other allied player who then plays the rest of the game...
