Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1940. Axis #5. Euro-Axis. Convoy Hunting.

Bay of Biscay. Round 1.

Ouch ... the expensive German Condor air group under the protection of a Luftwaffe fighter group flies exactly one mission before being splashed by RN carrier planes. What a waste!

Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1940. Axis #5. RN.

(Non-Phasing) Italian Coast. Round 3.

RN sub groups dive deep and combat end.

Euro-Axis Naval Summary.

This impulse was a disaster for the Euro-axis naval attempts.

Central Atlantic - draw. No convoys sunk.

Cape St. Vincent - loss. 1 u-boat flotilla sunk, 1 damaged and aborted and 1 Italian sub group damaged and aborted. No convoys sunk.

Bay of Biscay - loss. Condor nav group lost and 2 u-boat flotillas aborted. No convoys sunk.

Italian Cost - loss. Naval air group lost and supply convoy aborted.

rkr1958 -> RE: Witness to World War 2. (2/7/2019 12:42:12 AM)

Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1940. Axis #5. Rail.

von Leeb's HQ-I which was providing supply to Brest, and the German u-boat and naval forces based there, was railed to Yugoslavia to provide supply to axis forces west of Belgrade. Note that since rail happens after naval then von Leeb maintained supply to the German u-boat flotillas in Brest who moved out to sea and attack before being railed to Yugoslavia.

The first opportunity next turn von Leeb's HQ-I will be railed back to France to maintain supply to Brest.

rkr1958 -> RE: Witness to World War 2. (2/7/2019 12:46:14 AM)

Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1940. Axis #5. Euro-Axis. Land Combat. Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

The combine taken by German limited the number of units Germany could get in the assault of Belgrade. The impact was that there was an ~10% chance that Belgrade would hold. Any such fears for Germany were quickly erased by a roll of 13 which gave a final assault result of 26.

Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1940. Axis #5. Japan. Land Combat. Nationalist, Chinese.

The Nationalist elect to fight on the Blitz table to minimize their expected losses and are rewarded for their decision. That is, both Nationalist armies attacked survive, though forced to retreat.

Why, when faced with 2Ds, the first of which damaged the Cumberland, did you put the second D on the Cumberland? As it was, you got lucky, as the Cumberland saved and was only aborted, but the odds were that the Cumberland would be sunk, never to be replaced. Damaged ships can be repaired. Sunk ones are gone for good.

Probably flawed thinking on my part, but it went like this. 2 healthy (i.e., undamaged) cruisers are better than 1 healthy and 2 damaged cruisers.

I think so as well. At a certain point (and most of the times all the game round) sunk ships are not rebuilt, except subs and transports because the rest take 2 years of war or a bit less, sometimes they wouldn't arrive before the End, some others you cannot spare the points even if the ships could arrive in time.

I prefer damaged by far, they'll come back in four months and the cost of the repair is as expensive as the first round and cheaper than the second usually.

Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1941. Allied #7.

Actions.

USSR - combine.

China - land.

Great Britain - land.

France - naval.

USA - combine.

RAF Strategic Bombing Raid. Essen.

RAF bombers are "surprised" by heavy flak over the target and turn back with their bomb loads.

From a game play perspective I truly overlooked the presence of the German 88 A/A division next to Essen and was truly surprised. So, in effect, RAF bomber crews were truly surprise by the flak and the excellent rolls made by the Germans.

Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1941. Allied #10.

The turn continues to impulse 10 for the allies.

Actions.

USSR - combine.

China - land.

Great Britain - land.

Free France - naval.

USA - combine.

RAF Strategic Bombing. Rome. This time RAF long range bombers do make it to their target and drop their bombs, however, the bombs (barely) miss their target. Though a near miss is as good, or bad, as a wild miss.

The turn does come to an end at the conclusion of this impulse.

Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1941. End of Turn.

Partisans.

1. Nationalist Chinese partisan appears in French Indo-China to "join" the immobile Soviet partisan already there.

2. A Free French partisan appears and is deployed to the ONLY hex in occupied France not in the zone of control of an axis unit.

Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1941. End of Turn.

Nazi-Soviet Pact.

1. Germany chooses 2 chits (4 & 2) and puts them to their offensive pool. Also, they move a 4-chit from their offensive to their defensive pool.

2. The Soviets choose a 1 chits (4) and adds it to their defensive pool.

Current garrison ratios are extrapolated to Jul/Aug.

Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1941. End of Turn.

USA Entry Pool.

1. The USA chooses to add a chit to the Japanese entry pool, rolls awfully low (i.e., 17) and draws a 1-chit.

2. No additional entry option is chosen.

3. The US is waiting until they can choose option 34(14), "Pass War Appropriations Bill" before they will choose another option.
