Turn 17. Jul/Aug 1942. End of Turn.

Use Oil. Great Britain and Free France. Free France has no oil income so they, for now, are dependent upon Great Britain to reorganize their naval units.

Turn 17. Jul/Aug 1942. End of Turn.

Surrender. The Soviet Union rejects the axis offer of a surrender. Well, actually Stalin said he'd be happy to accept Germany's surrender.

rkr1958 -> RE: Witness to World War 2. (4/11/2019 4:12:20 PM)

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942.

Trade. Changes from Last Turn.

1. The US increases the amount of lend lease they're sending to Free France from 3 to 5 BP's (which is the maximum).

2. The CW stops the 1 RP (Malaya) being sent "off the books" to the USSR.

Initiative.

1. No advantage, allies win ties and both sides wish to move first.

2. First roll: axis 1, allies 5. The axis request a re-roll, which gives the allies +1 advantage.

3. Second roll: axis 9, allies 10+1=11. Allies win the initiative and elect to move first.

rkr1958 -> RE: Witness to World War 2. (4/11/2019 4:14:13 PM)

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #1.

Weather. The weather if fine across the map and prefect weather for the axis. Fortunately for the allies they won the initiative and are moving first.

The USA has a 70% chance of successfully declaring war on Japan and that's what they're going to try first.

rkr1958 -> RE: Witness to World War 2. (4/11/2019 4:15:52 PM)

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #1.

DOW. The USA attempt to declare war on Japan fails. The isolation sentiment in the US, which is shrinking, is still formidable enough to thwart President's Roosevelt attempt to get the US congress to declare war on Japan.

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #1.

Actions. Great Britain - naval, Free France - combine, USA (neutral) - combine, USSR - land, China - land.

USSR. No combat, just maneuver.

China. No combat, just maneuver to better defensive positions.

rkr1958 -> RE: Witness to World War 2. (4/11/2019 6:46:36 PM)

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #1.

The Italian Coast.

1. Strong RN naval forces are moved off the Italian coast in support of the army's land operations against Italy.

2. The Salerno bridgehead is being held by Great Britain's elite amphibious force. Great for seizing a bridgehead but too valuable to be put in a position to hold that bridgehead for long, especially if the enemy plans to bring armor/mech to the scene to try to blitz the defenders back into the sea.

3. Great Britain plans to change out there forces for Wavell's HQ-A, Indian mech corps and an armor division. This could have been accomplished with a combine, which would have only allowed Great Britain two naval moves, both of which would have been required for the swap. Also, Great Britain would have required later in the turn a naval to set their ASW escorts and patrols.

4. Instead, Great Britain will work with their Free French allies to accomplish the swap where the Brits can take a naval, which allows them to set their ASW patrols once and for all for this turn, followed by a land. The Free French transport and two CA's based in Trapani, Sicily stayed put this impulse. Next allied impulse where Great Britain takes a land, the Free French will take a naval and load the Royal marine corps and two divisions currently holding the Salerno bridgehead. Great Britain then during the disembark phase will disemark Wavell's HQ-A, Indian Mech and armor division into Salerno. Great Britain will have full access of all land units including those just embarked by the Free French, who could invade that impulse if such a target existed.

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #1.

RN. ASW Escorts and Patrols.

Basically the entire Atlantic and Med are vulnerable to axis subs. So, ASW patrols and escorts were set by priority equal to the number of active CP's in each sea area. Well, ASW patrols and escorts were set using the ships remaining after what the RN moved into the Italian Coast.

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Axis #2.

Declarations of War.

1. Japan declares war on the USSR. No reaction by the US.

2. Japan declares war on Great Britain. The US reacts. Three, 2-value chits are draw. At first I though the US was unlucky in make 3 low draws but actually these draws worked out for the best as the US now has an 80% chance of successfully declaring war on Japan.

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Axis #2.

1. Japan plays their o-chit and takes a super-combine.

2. Germany and Italy both take a land.

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Axis #2.

We'll save Japan's exploits for last. We'll start first with the Euro-axis and the Italian front.

The Italian Front.

Static, except another German army led by von Leeb and marching down from southern Germany.

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Axis #2.

Euro-Axis. The Eastern Front. Land Combat (1/3). Leningrad. Persistent pays off. The second battle of Leningrad is an axis victory and effectively clears out this Soviet hornet's nest on the axis' northern flank.

Note that the modified land combat roll was the lowest it could have been to take Leningrad.
