gradenko2k -> TOAW 4 tutorial (3/2/2019 3:49:05 AM)

I wrote a tutorial for the game based on my own experiences of trying to learn it, with an emphasis on teaching how to manipulate the UI, and how to translate strategy into action.

I'd like to share it with the community, and also ask for feedback on the document.

Just had a quick scan through - it's awesome! I'll spread the word in the German TOAW community and via #Twitter. Nice job!

Looks great! Thanks!

Omnius -> RE: TOAW 4 tutorial (3/2/2019 10:15:55 PM)

Very informative! I'm just getting ready to dive into the game and this written tutorial was great for giving me some quick important insights into gameplay. I played TOAW 1 & 2 and it will be interesting to see how the game system has changed and improved.

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for this great tutorial. Just a quick question: In your example, when double-clicking on an enemy unit, offensive and defensive strenght are shown as 5+2 and 6. But when I try, all I get is "Enemy strength unknown". Is there something I have to cange in the game options to reveal the enemy strength?

The kind of information you can receive from the enemy units in an adjacent hex depends on whether you've "spotted" the hex or if the hex is only "observed". And the information revealed to you is contingent on the value of the theater recon value for your side. If the theater recon value is very low it's possible to not receive very much information at all from adjacent hexes. I think I read somewhere that the Axis side in FITE2 has a theater value of 15 or so and the Soviets are down around 5 or so, I think. I could be wrong....I remember thinking that seeming to be not fair.

TheTom -> RE: TOAW 4 tutorial (3/6/2019 2:09:22 PM)

Yes, I know. I was just wondering why in his example the enemy strength is shown and when I try, the enemy strengh is unknown. I mean, the enemy forces are located on adjacent tiles, and he hasn't done anything so far. Just started the scenario and gets to know the enemy strength.

gliz2 -> RE: TOAW 4 tutorial (3/6/2019 4:31:44 PM)

During most of the IIWW enemy strenght was assumed mostly through interrigation of POWs. The air reconnaissance was at high-level (to discover enemy concentration for operations).
The intelligence was confronted with the data avilable on given units strenghts.

E.g.the Soviet Tank Div. should have X tanks of Type Z and Y tanks of Type U.
Based on the above the assessments would look like:
In contact with Soviet Tank divs, according to intelligence it is at half strenght (manpower) and around 30-40 tanks (some KVs).

The whole strenght points system is absolutely abstract and in form from the board games usually deceiving. Quality of Command, supply or morale are more decisive than just the "strenght" derrived from equipment. A unexperienced company of Panthers normally would fair poorly against expierenced company of Infantry when an expierenced company of Pz IVH could be as deadly as the top-crews in Tigers.

To answer your original question....I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it's got something to do with fog of war? How hard
would it be for you to post a picture showing what you're describing? If my dad was asking he'd probably say something
like: "would it kill you to ...". But I'm trying to be civil and kind and friendly.

LeeChard -> RE: TOAW 4 tutorial (3/10/2019 11:32:00 AM)

Even watching the first tutorial I learned something I had missed!

Fog of War was set to Off when I was writing the tutorial.
