But the US Navy might yet again need to stand off capabilities of the Phoenix missile system. Update it and the F-14, even just a few might make the difference.

Here is a video where some commenters said they served on carriers with F14s... quite interesting:

(the video itself is not so good but the comments)

And it won´t come back, it is "chopped up" they say. And another fact is that Iran had them fly succesfully apparently for quite a while..not sure if still in service there. Also the Luftwaffe for example flew "old" f4s also for quite some time safely - the Eurofighter was delayed so they had to do the job.

Btw. Here some cool footage from exercise "Highway 1984" see many Nato jets landing on the Autobahn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYpbI9Myrb0

After listening to an interview of Jim Sciutto re: his new book "The Shadow War", it is apparent the NATO powers have a vulnerability in space where Russian and Chinese satellites are already positioned to take out our GPS, Recon and Comms birds. We need to take something like the Phoenix missile, add a stage to it and develop it to hit those anti-satellite lurkers. I read somewhere that getting a small missile into space is feasible if the aircraft carries it high enough.

That is what the anti-satellite missile system that Boeing worked on is for. They would use a F-15 as the carrier platform for the missile.

Some of the Iranian F-14s are still flying. Which is why most of the US 14s were chopped up - there was a fear that spares could be taken from the retired US birds and sent to Iran. Why the US thought that could happen (security people?????) is a potentially disturbing question.

Not sure if the Phoenix stockpile met the grinder as well, but I would assume a 15 could easily carry a few, though radar & guidance are likely more the challenge than the ability to lift.

B-29 is what - a service level 5? But none of us would put that one out to pasture [:-]

I'm surprised that no one named "The Movie that Shall NOT Be Named". [:D]

Inchon. [:@] Yes, even with Jacqueline Bisset in it.

For WWII, Otoko-tachi no Yamato. A CGI-laden, yet another woe-is-me-I-have-been-conscripted-against-my-will Japanese circlejerk shlock, watching it I was ashamed that Tatsuya Nakadai (Ran and Kagemusha), a Japanese actor I tremendously respect, was in it. Although I admit, I plead guilty to have it found strangely engrossing watching those waves of American airplanes relentlessly slaughter the living ship out of their crew at their end. [:o]

EDIT: I'm baaaaaack! [:'(]
