Read the manual. Keep in in the bath room for reading matter. Read everything Alfred , Obvert and other "wise man" players have written. Then the "fun" begins. Here's what I recommend. 1st play against the AI in every single small scenario. I recommend playing one side , then play it again as the other. Then find a mentor to play against you in each of the small scenario's. Again , play as one side , then the other. Then try playing against the AI in the "grand campaign as the allies. Ask for help from the other players. Then ask for more. Eventually , you'll decide to try playing the grand campaign as allies against a real , experienced player. Find the most experienced person that will play against you. Be very, very ,VERY nice to them. Be honest , and try to verify that you ARE NOT playing another rookie. Asking a experienced player to take on the PBEM is asking as very time consuming thing. Be sure that you will put a lot of effort into it. They are doing you a extremely good turn. Respect them. And learn to eventually kick the crap out of them. [:D]

Welcome aboard shipmate! [:)] May this game bring you much joy , and may you come to treasure time spent playing it as well as we do. [;)]

All good advice.

Reference the highlight... What should that take, about 20 years?[:D]

ignore the old farts that snarl "read the manual".

Not that I snarl all the time, but I have at times. Usually when I've had a 'bad' day and I misdirect my anger. OTOH keep this in mind when those that may 'snarl' do. I like many that can sometimes have a 'short fuze' have put great effort into 'learning' this game. I spent almost two years as a 'lurker' reading, starting and restarting games (I started with the worst case scenario, Full Campaign as Japan vs AI). Do some of this. Write down questions you may have and read the Forum, many will be answered just by doing that. Its not that we don't wish to help, we do, its just easier on us if we see an effort has been put through first. Its impossible to 'spoon feed' someone this whole game.

I have read the manual and played few turns against the AI (small scenarios only), I have read some guides too (like The Air Mission Coordination Guide v2.1).

And this looks like a fine start.

Btw, is there an up-to-date manual or the original one+WhatsNew are all what I need?

Thanks

This forum is what you need! [;)]

Here is a list of threads and helpful pages for all to use.

Links and Info

Read everything in obverts' link. He's taken the time to put together an excellent list.

But I digress....You gotta look at the screen and fiddle around before you start reading manuals.

Agreed. I always fiddle with the nobs before reading the manual...

er....[sm=scared0018.gif]

Funny, every time I do that I get slapped.[:D]

AleRonin -> RE: Greetings! (5/1/2019 7:25:10 PM)

This is my problem with the forum, inside all these digressions there are very good advices [&o]

Obvert your post is full of good stuff!

Once again thanks to all [:)]

For this game the hard way will be my approach (too long and too complex and I'm not sure you can reach a complete knowledge within a reasonable time).
Doubts and questions? A ton.
I don't want to read hundreds of topics without apply what I'm learning, if that means become a good player in 10 years, fine is not a race for me, I think most of you play WitP-AE for the journey.

Said that, I want to try the Coral Sea scenario against a human opponent, how to move all stuff is rather clear, where to move it will be the challenge [:D]

HansBolter -> RE: Greetings! (5/1/2019 7:51:53 PM)

If you can get the search function to work for you on this site, or just use google search, look for posts by Alfred.

He is the forum resident game code expert who keeps us all straight on our guesses and suppositions in the absence of the developers who trickled away slowly.

You have reached the heart of this great game, AleRonin! Welcome aboard! [sm=00000436.gif]

The battle of the Coral Sea end in a marginal Japanese victory with a lovely voice that said Port Moresby has been taken!

I'm not able to post a picture, anyhow CV Zuikaku and Yorktown sunk, PM captured.
I was the Japanese but the Allied AI has been indulgent.

Ready to take the plunge [:D]

AleRonin -> RE: Greetings! (5/2/2019 1:31:25 PM)

Definitely the journey not the destination.

Well, if one's destination is probable insanity, I'm in it for both the journey *and* the destination.
