Daniele -> Northern Fury H-HOUR on Amazon (5/8/2019 7:43:45 AM)

UPDATE! The book is now available on Amazon! Check it out here

August 1991. Soviet hardliner Pavel Medvedev knows that only bloodshed can save USSR from complete collapse. With violence breaking out in the streets of Moscow, few realize that he is piloting the Soviet Union on a collision course with its deadliest enemy yet: NATO.

US Marine Colonel Robert Buckner, passed over for a covet-ed command, takes a post working for Vice Admiral Falkner on his way to retirement. As the world lurching towards World War III, he finds his way towards a panoramic view of the unfolding crisis with a pivotal role to play.

War breks out the globe, but the pin falls in the far north, where soldiers and civilians alike must battke bit just the enemy, but the unforgiving elements. With arsenals of high-tech weapons loosed in both directions, the ultimate reward not be victory, but survival.

H-Hour is the first book of the Northern Fury series, which tells the alternate history of World War III's northern front through the eyes of those who lived it.

Loved the book. But curious about this as well. Are you planning smaller, more frequent bites or bigger books? Looking forward to the next one regardless.

Gunner98 -> RE: Northern Fury H-HOUR on Amazon (5/9/2019 4:37:50 PM)

Hay guys really appreciate your interest and support. Really glad your enjoying it.

Book #2 ‘Fire and Ice’ is in the works and book#3 is framed out.

In addition to the Northern Fury trilogy we are looking at the following (not necessarily in this order):

Caribbean Fury - 1 book
Baltic Fury - 1 book
Mediterranean Fury - 1 book
Indian Ocean Fury - 1 book
Pacific Fury 2... maybe 3 books

Haven't even contemplated the European front yet.

Remember though that we both have day jobs - busy ones - and families - and that this is a sideline. H-Hour has only been on sale now for 4 days and we are still trying to figure out a bunch of stuff.

When we started this project we thought that a tempo on one book every two years was realistic. That was 3.5 years ago.

Our tentative aim point for 'Fire & Ice' is Christmas 2020. I am cautiously confident that we know a lot more about putting a book out to market now, so we can become more efficient and we may very well make that timeline.

We share your enthusiasm for the squeal, but it will be a while yet.

Grabbed a kindle copy myself and started it last night. I'm only on Chapter 3, but I have to say so far it is really enjoyable! Really looking forward to reading more of it, and I'm glad to hear that there are other books planned!

HalfLifeExpert -> RE: Northern Fury H-HOUR on Amazon (5/11/2019 4:19:31 AM)

[ALERT: Minor spoilers of the first two chapters in this post]

I've read through the first 10 chapters and I am really enjoying it so far!

The writing is engaging and I am really interested in the alternate path things are going after the August Coup.

As an aside, it is kind of cool to read an alternate history narrative during which I actually exist (I was born in the intervening time between Chapters 9 and 10; May 11 to be precise)

Also, my father has told me a few times over the years that he was both shocked and very concerned when he heard the breaking news on August 19 1991 that there was an ongoing coup d'état attempt in Moscow. He was so concerned that he actually called in sick to work that day to follow the developments. As I read Chapter 2, I occasionally had some speculative thoughts on how my father would be reacting to the reports that Gorbachev had 'died of a heart attack' and some sort of confrontation at the White House. I believe the ultimate outcome of the coup would have made him very nervous indeed, and he probably would very much have been a reader of Jack Young's reporting.

Finally, my father did purchase the E-book, but he has not started it yet.

I will most definitely leave an Amazon review when I have finished the book.

Gunner98 -> RE: Northern Fury H-HOUR on Amazon (5/11/2019 10:12:33 AM)

Glad you're all enjoying it. Thank you for the support.

HalfLifeExpert - I really think that you'd have been born into a very different world had the events of the book unfolded. There were many people around the world who, like your father were very concerned in August 91. The news was shocking, scary, mesmerizing. At the time I was a Captain and instructing at our Artillery School, we all made sure we were packed and ready to go, more than at any time in my career - we thought it was going to go big.

Hope your father enjoys the book.

A review would be appreciated, thank you.

I was born a few months before the August Coup, it's knowing I entered something very, very different that has given me an interest in the Cold War-and thoughts of what could have been.

Whicker -> RE: Northern Fury H-HOUR on Amazon (5/12/2019 6:16:50 PM)

just finished it, I can't believe how good it was, you guys did an amazing job! Now get back to the typewriters and get book 2 out!

Pretty neat to see how the scenarios played into the book - the one about New York was one of my favorite scens even though at the time I didn't really know much about the game and I don't think the survivors stuff was working very well. I just liked the story the scen told and the special messages that came in. That was years ago and to see how Gunner somehow had this master plan of the total conflict in his head is pretty amazing.

Airborne Rifles -> RE: Northern Fury H-HOUR on Amazon (5/12/2019 7:19:20 PM)

Glad you all are enjoying it!

I was living in Germany during th August coup. My parents were missionaries doing covert ministry behind the Iron Curtain at the time and the coup certainly concerned them. We moved to Moscow in 1992 (I inserted myself and my family into the book in a tiny Easter egg). I’ve often wondered how my childhood would hahve been different if the coup had succeeded. I saw firsthand the results of subsequent coup attempts against Yeltsin. One memory in particular, APCs rolling through my neighborhood in southern Moscow toward the city center, the normally bustling streets deserted. My time there have a me a lot of respect for Russians as a people.

Guys,

Are there any plans of releasing the book as a Nook book through Barnes and Noble? All of my other books are on are through B&N and I saw they have a paperback available.

Looking forward to reading it.

HalfLifeExpert -> RE: Northern Fury H-HOUR on Amazon (5/13/2019 6:52:13 PM)

Not for at least the next three months. We have signed on to an exclusive agreement with Amazon for the eBook as that gives us access to several of their programs such as their Kindle unlimited and Lending library.

We're still working our way through the pros & cons of these sorts of things but we won't be able to sell Nook Book or Kobi or any other electronic format until that arrangement has expired, it is for 3 months and we may extend it depending on how it works out.

Sorry about that. You're probably aware that there are ways of converting the files, here is an example: https://smallbusiness.chron.com/make-nook-kindle-formats-compatible-27494.html
