Your name is unknown. Your deed is immortal - Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Moscow)

WarPlan is a game like few others. It is more than a WWII game. It’s a tool. Merging the experience of 50 years in wargaming, WarPlan puts in players’ hands the control of virtually everything.

Supply System, Production, Politics, Military operations and many other layers are offered to you thanks to the great engine flexibility.

Today, developer Kraken Studios and Matrix Games are proud to announce that WarPlan has reached the Beta Phase, so if you think you have what it takes to help polishing and testing don’t miss this incredible opportunity and join the Beta now!

Looks awesome! HOI4 has been such a let down that I've been hoping another company would jump into the WW2 grand strategy market. Are there plans to include intelligence operations?

Asid -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/8/2019 3:07:46 PM)

Looking forward to this.

Yes, this looks very promising indeed. For over 20 years, I've been waiting for a game that puts land, sea and air operations; politics and diplomacy; economy and the access to raw materials into one balanced mix in the mind of the gamer – i.e. that all these things have an equal share of his mind. Most games fall short of this, since one or the other aspect takes too prominent a rôle, making the others either nuances or too massive. Hope this is what I've been waiting for.

Screenshot of Britain - how did Manchester end up in the Midlands and how did Wales get the Nile running up the middle of it [X(]

Thanks for information. 1st thing on my list.

mouchotte -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/9/2019 6:12:45 AM)

Hope you will use real world map, I didn't recognized the coasts and town's positions in France.
Concerning stacking rules, by example, it was a British and American Armies in only one Hex in the first half of June 1944 in Normandy, instead one corp.

Otherwise, the idea of such wargame is nice, good luck ! :)

Rosseau -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/9/2019 6:19:18 AM)

Stating the obvious is my specialty, but it looks like it will give The Operational Art of War IV a serious run for its money.

ADMIRAL3 -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/9/2019 7:40:12 AM)

Very interesting another step forward beyond strategic command. Hope it will be released soon.

wodin -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/9/2019 12:17:27 PM)

Manchester needs to be more or less level with Liverpool and on Liverpool side of the penines. Put it the bed above river next to Liverpool

wodin -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/9/2019 12:23:05 PM)

To really stand out something like WEGO is needed. That would add something new from the likes of SC WaW etc

As I posted in another thread, the games aren't even comparable. This is a strategic level game akin to Strategic Command (1 unit per hex, huge hexes, production/research/diplomacy) whereas TOAW is an entire operational system that focuses mainly on the military aspects and eschews production/research/diplomacy. This game isn't going to give TOAW a run for its more anymore than Hearts of Iron, AT: Gold, or Strategic Command did because TOAW isn't trying to do the same thing as those games.

I'm very excited for this game but there's so many things that TOAW can do that it can't (and vice versa). This game can't model units down to squad level and individual equipment level, it doesn't have a database covering entire 20th century worth of units and equipment, it (to my knowledge) doesn't replicate the impact of time like TOAW does. On the other hand, TOAW is very limited when it comes to "strategic" aspects like research/diplomacy/production, because it is an "operational" game.

That is correct. Each game is different and offers different things. My goal is not to replace a game but to offer something in a niche that, to my findings, isn't currently available.

Stating incorrect information is my specialty. Actually glad both games differ widely, as I will most assuredly buy it.

ringoblood -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/10/2019 1:24:18 PM)

Definitely looks like a game i'm gonna love.

ringoblood -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/10/2019 1:33:08 PM)

Concerning I'm a huge lover and fan of Strategic Command and Strategic Command Classic, this is gonna be right up my alley I have helped in the development of the SC WWII and WaW so hopefully i'll be able to get my hands on this beta to help. I love strategy games like this.[8D]

Simulacra53 -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/11/2019 8:14:51 AM)

The more I read the more I like the concept - probably pick this one up. Art look is looking good, including counters (please keep them), but alllow easy modding).

However as some already pointed out, the actual geography (not the art, which I like as it reminds me of something between Advanced Tactics / Decisive Campaigns and the SC3 board map mod by Welk) it is more than a city here and there. Sure, in broad strokes it is Europe, but there the similarity ends.

Now of course that will not affect actual gameplay - hence it won’t influence my purchasing decision - but it will always be there to be noticed,
Maybe there is room to reappraise coastal lines and geographic detail?

Keep up the good work, looking forward to the actual gameplay.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/11/2019 1:41:07 PM)

As people find things I fix them. Already the above noted map corrections have been fixed. WarPlan has a map importer system to allow players to grab a real map, set colors and import them. Then you just have to correct import errors and create the roads, rails, cities etc.

It is similar to the Strategic Command 3 Map Importer program which I created for them.

Plainian -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/11/2019 7:10:25 PM)

More than happy to give you my thoughts on depicting my home country Scotland. Once I see the full map i can add more.

Ports? Are they tied to cities/towns or can they exist separately? Do they come in different sizes?

basem2502 -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/11/2019 9:52:23 PM)

Looks very interesting and looking forwards to see how the game will develop. Please keep those updates coming

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/12/2019 12:27:09 AM)

Cities are not tied to ports. Ports and cities are resources and there is a mix of them.

Ports range in size of 1 to 9.
Ports have a range of 3 to 9 port defenses
Ports of 5 or more size can repair ships.

Port size determines how many supplies it can funnel into an area off of main supply.

Will this game have Sprites or just NATO symbols? The game looks great though. Definitely peaked my interest.

Simulacra53 -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/12/2019 7:35:30 AM)

Looks like the default is mixed.

Land using NATO
Air and Sea using graphics.
To be honest that’s what I prefer.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/12/2019 1:04:22 PM)

I do have a package for NATO air counters which I tried. It was hard to distinguish between land and air forces on the map for players. So I used plane symbols. They are pretty obvious what is what.

I did a lot of research on user experience for this game to make sure everything is easy to use and understand.

Air units are....
Air superiority - only unit that can intercept
Interceptor, Escort, Fighter bomber advancements

Ground Attack Group - shorter range better vs land units
Close Support
Strategic Bombers
Naval Air
Sonar and Electronics

Tactical Group - longer range mix of strategic and land attack
Close Support
Strategic Bombers
Naval Air
Sonar and Electronics

Strategic Group - high strategic bombardment very long range
Close Support
Strategic Bombers
Naval Air
Sonar and Electronics

Simulacra53 -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/12/2019 4:01:44 PM)

Air power looks promising.
Missing interdiction.

Infierno -> RE: Take WWII into your hands and create your best WarPlan! (5/23/2019 1:39:59 AM)

This game looks great. I disagree that it needs to be WEGO to stand out. It looks very interesting as is imo
