The Bloody First.[:'(]

zakblood -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/11/2019 6:38:00 PM)

Last Stand Arnhem, then The Bloody First for it's new engine

Divadov -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/11/2019 7:07:50 PM)

Many of us have not been able to test The Bloody First, so I can't include in ranking, sorry.

Titan -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/11/2019 7:46:07 PM)

Very first one was the best IMO by Atomic games then Cross of Iron

CGGrognard -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/11/2019 7:48:44 PM)

They are all good in one way or another, but one you're missing is the original Close Combat. The one that started it all. But to answer your question, I will through my vote to Last Stand Arnhem (A Bridge Too Far).

Divadov -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/11/2019 8:21:33 PM)

Thanks CGGrognard, I have updated.

Tejszd -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/12/2019 4:24:01 AM)

1) Last Stand Arnhem - 2 BG’s per map that contribute units with possibly 2 entry VL’s for deployment
2) The Longest Day - less features than LSA but more than any Atomic CC game plus a large number of mods

shadepiece -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/12/2019 12:41:30 PM)

The original CC2 ABTF because of nostalgia.

Nomada_Firefox -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/12/2019 1:22:50 PM)

Last Stand Arnhem only with the lastest patch published, it has better AI. If you do not know, I have made a mod few time ago converting it in a Wacht am Rhein 1946 mod. Just you need the original Wacht am Rhein because it uses the maps folder from it.

wodin -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/12/2019 2:44:54 PM)

CC2. Easy decision. After that infantry became more fragile reducing the length of fire fights another outcome being high turn over of soldiers so less chance to bond. Also best campaign system.

Divadov -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/12/2019 7:38:35 PM)

CGGrognard, I think that "A bridge Too Far" and "Last Stand Arnhem are different; I put your vote in CC2 if you think that is ok.

zakblood -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/12/2019 7:53:28 PM)

don't agree on that point myself tbh,

quote:

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far,

as i would have said A Bridge Too Far is only 1/2 a point same as Last Stand Arnhem is the same game just updated to a new engine and name imo

zakblood -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/12/2019 7:54:42 PM)

which would still put The Longest Day in the lead so far[:D]

Simulacra53 -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/12/2019 9:15:43 PM)

CC3 The Russian Front, most played, best memories.
CC2 Bridge too Far, a close second

CC4 and 5 never came close, limited playtime compared to CC2 and 3.

Kilovski -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/12/2019 9:27:37 PM)

CC5 and all the mods that followed. Great game. [&o]
Close second
CC2 Bridge too far [&o]
[:)]

LeeChard -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/13/2019 11:21:48 AM)

CC3 the Russian front.
I very much enjoyed the complete campaign game from both sides

wodin -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/14/2019 11:41:59 PM)

CC2 and Last time I think are different. Different campaign system. CC2_had a unique campaign mechanic. Also said it a lot but f irefights far superior in CC2 due to infantry not made of glass. Graviteam also get this right, takes a lot of bullets to get casualties which makes for a far better game and be able to create real life tactics without fear of most of your soldiers wiped out before you get anywhete. The twitch seemed to confirm my fear, in fact they looked even more fragile (actually it's more a case of units being way to accurate) than ever before.

CGGrognard -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/16/2019 7:42:25 PM)

Yes that’s fine.

Divadov -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/17/2019 6:15:14 PM)

Ranking updated, seems that "Last Stand Arnhem" will be the winner.

CGGrognard -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/17/2019 8:26:46 PM)

Since there's seems to be a variety of reasons for one's like or dislike in the series, perhaps a poll should be taken to see what one would expect from The Bloody First (e.g. mod ability, theatre (yes we know that), and unit allocation system.)).

Argon3030 -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/18/2019 11:08:12 AM)

Close Combat VI: Gateway to Caen (ver. 6#50#03) 05#06#2014 Slitherine Software, Black Hand Studios, Matrix Games.

From the CC 2D series the best game in 2D-graphics and strategy.

wodin -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/18/2019 4:37:15 PM)

Not sure why CC2 and Last Stand Arnhem are considered one and the same? CC2 totally different campaign mechanic. Also overall play more intense and exciting. In fact CC2 isn't even on the list?! I certainly wouldn't have voted for Last Stand rather CC3 if it can't be CC2. This list just makes no sense.

You may aswell put all the games covering same battle together.

Divadov -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/19/2019 10:07:22 PM)

After read again yours post about ABTF and LSA, I have decided to break up this games into 2 independent series.

Also this way, the classification is more exciting, because together they won the other with difference.

Ranking updated, those who have not voted is your moment of glory!!!

Calyph -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/20/2019 3:36:58 PM)

My favorite has to be CCIII - The Russian Front. I loved that your units persisted throughout the campaign and could improve based on what year it was. Also, having yourself as the commander on the ground was really cool as well. Starting off with just a platoon leader, then a command squad, half track, all the way through to a Panther was great. A Bridge Too Far and Battle of the Bulge are tied for second for me. I love the advanced strategy of ABTF with picking supply drops and such, but the Battle of the Bulge is one of my favorite scenarios of the war. There was also a nice improvement to graphics and AI for CCIV. Close Combat would be fourth because of the nostalgia factor. It was one of the first games I played on our old Power Macintosh 7300. I was 6 when that one came out. CCV never really held my attention. Maybe I'll give it another shot now that the new games will be available soon.

P.S. This is my first post on the forum. I just found out about the new game a week or so ago and I'm super excited about it. Really hoping I get into the beta.

wodin -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/20/2019 3:43:35 PM)

Welcome😁

Six you say!! I was about 26 when ABTF was released!!

CC2 ABTF.
Ultimate classic. Just remake it - together with the same campaign system please! It's the example of a custom-made system for one very specific operation superior to any sort of generic system (introduced in CC4 & beyond) that came after it in terms of pace and excitement. My 2 cts.

wodin -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/20/2019 3:50:52 PM)

That's better. Good to see ABTF still wins. For along time I've seen it mentioned as a player's favourite.

I just wish the current devs see why it's a favourite and go from there. I'm telling you inf foreigners lasting awhile. No uber marksmen. It being hard to nail crawling infantry or firing from cover. When only things like a surprise ambush or something silly done by the player causing bad casualties. The twitch vid every move soldiers where dropping like it was the battle of the Somme. As I've said Graviteam Tactics is probably the only other real-time game that gets this aspect right.

wodin -> RE: WHAT IS YOUR BEST GAME OF CLOSE COMBAT SERIES (6/20/2019 3:52:03 PM)

Can't agree more.
