pbiggar -> Can someone tell me what is on fire? (8/6/2019 11:56:50 PM)

I hope someone can help me answer this. The manual makes a reference to ship fires and firestorms, but nothing that relates to base fires.

I noticed in a combat report that 2631 fires were started by ship bombardment on Davao. What exactly is burning how does this impact the unfortunate base owner? I am playing Allies vs AI in an Ironman game.

Fires happen because of manpower hits and gradually die out in the subsequent turns. If fires are large enough (starting from several dozen thousand or such methinks) they can damage other industries on the base in this and subsequent turns. Manpower bombing becomes pretty effective later in the war with massed 4E raids on large cities in Japan

A bombardment, especially by BBs, can mimic the effects of a strategic raid on a city. 2631 is a number not worth worrying about. The question of concern is why you had 700+ planes on one airfield. That's just crazy. Also, I'm going to assume you didn't have the harbor mined. That's just crazier.

I have to say, that is the most awe inspiring performance I've ever seen from four ancient BBs with an escort. Hubba, hubba!

Gorn, the AI piled up the aircraft. Unless it's just FOW....GP

Apologies. I was thinking the respondent was the owner of Davao. My mistake.

Not 700 aircraft but 700 damaging hits on an unspecified number of aircraft - i.e. multiple holes in most of them.

For our Aussie cousins.

I am almost certain Australian culture content on radio gets you enough replays of Midnight Oil. [8D]

My first turn input is mostly midnight oil.

pbiggar -> RE: Can someone tell me what is on fire? (8/7/2019 5:25:39 PM)

Thanks for the responses. I will view the fires as representing damage to the base that could potentially damage manpower or industry if they were more significant.

Mr. Gorn: Yes, I am playing against the Japanese AI in Ironman so that explains the 700+ planes lined up in neat rows for the old BB's to use for target practice. Ironman is more challenging than vanilla, but as they say, "You can't fix stupid".

You guys remember when a ship carrying cargo, such as supplies or oils? If that ship get hit pretty hard, it will starts fire pretty easy and can sink it.

Same for the bases, there are so many things at the base can catch on fire.

IMO, if I had that many planes at the coastal port, with a large airfield, would have mined it, like 750+.

I think he mentioned that the AI is the opponent and it does not do a good job of comprehensive defence.

Ah I just noticed it, cant believe how bad the AI can be.
