Yes. It does seem slightly smaller than the old monitor, but the quality of the monitor seems to compensate. Quite legible. Obviously eyes vary, as I well know.

The size of text and everything else did not vary with the resolution settings. I would have to measure to see how much, but things in general are a bit smaller on this monitor than the old one. Old one is 24 inches at the standard 1920 x 1080, new one is 31.5 inches with 3840 x 2160. Someone enthusiastic could calculate the areas and pixels, then the ratios of those for each monitor. But to my eye things are a little more tightly packed on the new monitor.

In Windows 10 display settings, they recommend 150% scale for icons and other items, but I am using 125% and they are plenty big. I just put them to 100% and they would be fine (and readable) at that setting too. The interface cable is HDMI, and I don't know if Windows 10 is aware of the physical size of the monitor (i.e. 31.5 inches) or merely the resolution and aspect ratio (16 x 9).

I was under the impression that you can't get a 4k signal through an HDMI cable.

I have two 4k monitors at work and when we set up the second monitor with an HDMI cable the choice for 3840 x 2160 resolution was either grayed out or not present (can't recall which).

Switching to a Display Port cable corrected the problem.

Now I'm at this:

"C:\Matrix Games\WITP AE - PBM #1\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -cpu4 -deepColor -dd_sw -archive -wd -pxf2656 -pyf1654

So 2656 x 1654, which is taking up the entire vertical space above the task bar (I don't auto-hide it). I have some space left over on the sides but the text editors, Tracker, whatever are there so I can click on them easy. And the map is huge!

SWEET!!!!!

See: https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/61da15b5

The monitor came with two cables, one HDMI and one Display Port and has 2x HDMI ports and 1x DIsplay Port. Looking more closely than I bothered before, the card in the PC also has a Display Port (and another type the monitor doesn't have) but I just plugged in the HDMI and didn't look back. I suppose I could try the Display Port. I never even bothered looking up to see which is best.

A very, very slight wrinkle. On the old PC I had the shortcut set to start with the window maximized because I was using all the horizontal space. On this PC, obviously not, so the shortcut starts the window "normal". The slight wrinkle is that after it starts I put the mouse pointer on the top edge of the window and double-click to maximize the window in only the vertical dimension. Happily that does anchor to the top of the monitor so the bottom is above the task bar, exactly where I want it.

Here is a recent comparison of HDMI and DisplayPort.
https://www.pcworld.com/article/2030669/hdmi-vs-displayport-which-display-interface-reigns-supreme.html

It looks like for my purposes it probably doesn't matter, but DisplayPort could be a bit better for me. Maybe I'll switch. Maybe I'll drink coffee instead.
